  1. Celine's popularity coz of the Titanic. If only she never recorded that song.

Actually, she had gained a lot of popularity a number of years before with her hit single across the globe... "The Power of Love". She followed that up with a huge hit album "Falling Into You" which was a huge. "Because You Loved Me" was tied to a huge soundtrack and then she did that epic song and video for "It's All Coming Back to Me Now". All in all, she is probably most successful for her soundtrack songs than any other artist aside to maybe Elton John who made a string of hits from The Lion King.

  2. AGAIN?!?!?! :lmao:

    it's madonnatribe.we KNOW it's official.end of the story.le'ts celebrate.

    "AGAIN"??? Not following?

And remind me how Madonnatribe suddenly became an "official source"? Keep in mind, I am not doubting it's not true, but if MT has some official source they are pulling it from, I think that should be mentioned, since anyone could think this is just another set list pulled out of a head of a rabid and wishful thinking fan.

  3. Jesus wants to be a dj, so I guess she's just helping him.

I thought he wanted to be a model? Anyway, I have no issue he's in the video. It just takes me back to her Tony Ward days. Furthermore, none of us know much about this guy other than his involvement with Madonna, so I don't understand the animosity? It's just a video. And the whole thing is to be a fun video. Who cares if it's Jesus or someone else who is playing the part?

  4. While I think it's a tight list and most likely accurate, but how do we know this is "official"?? I certainly hope it is though. But for the life of me, I can't understand how "Miles Away" was something to include when there are a number of #1 and #2 songs omitted that are far more memorable from her catalog. In fact, I'd prefer "Give it 2 Me" to be on it, considering it was a minor hit everywhere except Japan. But c'mon when we have classics like "True Blue" and "Causing a Commotion" being ignored and two of her biggest ballads "I'll Remember" and TUTBMP, surely they are going to be more appreciated than "Miles Away".

Anyway, I like the set list. And I do like "Miles Away". I also am excited to see "Burning Up" on that list. I wasn't expecting that. Hopefully both "Everybody" and "Burning Up" will be included on the video/DVD.

  5. Actually, if I'm not mistaking, Celine's tour was the second most successful tour for a solo artist (after Madonna). Which IMO is not bad at all.

Well, there you go... I stand corrected. I guess what I was getting at is I don't think Celine could have pulled off multiple top selling tours world-wide like Madonna, but who knows? As I mentioned, she is quite as popular as Madonna world-wide.

  6. Oh, I definitely agree with you both. Celine is hardly the same force she was in the 90's, but then again Madonna certainly hasn't had the same punch as she had since the 80's and 90's. Interestingly enough, people equally want to see Madonna and Celine live in concert. Though, I am not sure if Celine would be able to pull off a successful world tour as Madonna has.

I actually consider Celine more of a modern day Streisand (musically). Both have the pipes and both have a big pull with Adult contemporary. And that is why maybe some would think about "cringing" at hearing her. And while I have enjoyed a number of her 90's albums, I do cringe hearing a number of her songs. In fact, there was a period in the 90's, that everytime she performed that damn Titantic song, she was beating her chest. I've seen her do it for a few others songs too. But I guess that's besides the point... she still has a huge following just like Madonna. I don't believe Celine will be one of those artists that will whither away. I think she will keep putting out albums and have a pretty decent following.

  7. But Celine doesn't have nearly the level of smashes Madonna. Let's not even talk about cultural relevance since Celine isn't anywhere near Madonna's league. When you compare Madonna and Celine's catalogue Madonna blows her out of the water. It ain't even close.

When you compare cultural relevance, no doubt Madonna takes the lead. But I wouldn't exactly count her out regarding the level of her smashes. Celene managed 11 NUMBER ONE singles in the U.S. alone. Madonna has 12. Another 5 or 6 of Celine's songs hit the top 5. When she made the transition to English albums, she immediately got the attention of the world. Of course, she had the help of a couple DISNEY songs such as "Beauty and the Beast". But during much of the 90's and the year 2000, she dominated the charts. In fact, her albums sales and charting rivals Madonna's success spanning three decades to Celine doing it in one decade. In fact, looking at her charts, she's had more #1 albums ACROSS the globe than Madonna has. The sales of her albums appear to either be about the same or slightly more than Madonna's. But of course, she's been around selling #1 albums longer than Madonna. Most of her French albums throughout the 80's went to #1 in her home country. And the sales from that one country is quite remarkable even though they may not reached a million. But when you do the math, her sales and #1's actually rival Madonna's. And Celine is a world-wide star just as much as Madonna. Interestingly, it was her English albums by the start of the 90's that catapulted her as a World-Wide star.

  8. well, you're right about Christina. But Celine's certainly one of the only female artists who truly rivals Madonna in sales.

I have to agree. Celine has been making records longer than Madonna. Though, she was mostly popular in her home country up until the late 80's and then she exploded in the late 80's and early 90's. She's been doing quite nice for herself especially with the gig she had in Las Vegas. But I still think Madonna has had more of a cultural impact than Celine.

  9. Can Barbra Streisand compete with Whitney, Mariah and Madonna?

There is a fourth name to add to the diva competition this fall: Barbra Streisand. She is scheduled to release s new studio album titled Love Is the Answer a month after Whitney releases her new disc. It's also the same day Madonna releases her greatest hits set and Mariah releases her "delayed" Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.

Let's face the truth: Barbra Streisand has more vocal talent than Madonna, Mariah and Whitney rolled up in a ball and multiplied by ten. But will people download and buy a Barbra Streisand album in multiple numbers?

It remains to be seen whether or not Streisand's new venture is a success, but the fact remains that she is the biggest selling female artist ever (at least in America) and Madonna is an extremely close second. Mariah Carey claims to be the biggest female artist ever, but that's just record company hype.

It should be an interesting autumn with all these new diva releases. Having all these releases around the same time can only help, not hurt, the already ailing record industry.

    http://www.examiner....iah-and-Madonna

Babs may have better vocals than all of them, but I would say she's the most boring to me. Her new album sounds like a lounge album full of standards. You can preview 30 seconds of all her new songs at her official site. I'd buy a Mariah and/or Whitney new album before a Streisand one. I also think Streisand has a totally different fan base than the others. I highly doubt that there is a large enough group of people who will be choosing between Babs and/or the other three. Each artist has a strong following.

What is interesting is... I don't see any talk of a lead single from Streisand. And I can't imagine any of the current top 40 stations playing her stuff with the exception of maybe the Adult Contemporary stations. So if she can pull off a top ten album and/or higher, I'd say she really has the advantage since all the other women are banking on their singles to sell the album.

  10. No, the press release just stated the day when radio would start playing the song. Was the same with "4 Minutes". They don't build any anticipation and it either comes down to some local Warner division (which is NEVER the US or UK) or fans regularly checking iTunes, Amazon & HMV.

I'm just trying to think like either a casual fan or non-fan here. And being that I don't follow Mariah Carey very much nor go to her site, I really haven't seen much promotion behind her stuff. I really think it's just the die hard fans who really see the announcements and stuff. It's not until you see the album and/or single being advertised either on the internet, TV or music stores (whatever ones are left). And I suspect for many musicians they have MTV and VH1 to rely on when they DO play videos.

My point is... I don't think casual to non-fans notice these press releases, etc. They only come across the stuff if they check out their favorite sites, or Itunes or Amazon which may feature new music.

  11. Why cant she have both a huge opening week and steady sales??

I never said she couldn't. But with the competition that month and week, it's possible it won't happen. I'd love to see both. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

  12. Mariah and IDJ comes to mind, they even announce the release of remixes hitting iTunes. Other artists have them on their own sites, nothing to do with the media. For Madonna it's been going on for most of the decade, they only say the radio premiere date and that's that.

But Madonna's website has announced it's release of "Celebration" as well. Warners may have not gone out of it's way to promote this single yet, but I really haven't seen much promotion behind Mariah's new single either.

  13. I'm sure she'll do fine. Immaculate Collection did not reach #1, but I'm sure it outsold whomever album that went to #1 at the time. It has sold nearly 30 million copies currently. Madonna is a world-wide seller as Mariah is mostly a U.S. artist. Whether Madonna reaches #1 (which I doubt being it's a collection), she will most likely outsell whomever is at #1 again in the long run. I'd rather have a lower charting album, selling a shit load throughout time than a high charter that outsells the current albums of the week only to tank in sales in the long run. We've seen that with albums from Madonna (American Life and Hard Candy) which reached #1 when it was first released, but never reached selling a million copies in the U.S.

  14. I agree, it's ridiculous how Warner never announces single release dates. We find out about iTunes when it's already available for purchase, and the physical dates are only appearing on HMV and Amazon. Currently there's no physical single listed on HMV by the way, even though it's only a month away.

How is it any different with any other record company? I've never seen any special announcements made by other record companies for other artists who release singles? Certainly some artists do get special attention if their the latest flavor of the week, month or year. That's usually from the media.

  15. You know what is funny I don't ever remember a period in my life where Madonna was "hot". Obviously she was as I was alive during all of the 80's but from my teens on (early 90's) Madonna was never "it". In middle school it was NOT cool to like Madonna back then...AT ALL. I'd imagine the kids today would have an easier time admitting they are a big fan of hers than some of us may had in those "dark years" of '92-'93. At least now Madonna is a bit more respected it seems, back then she was just a washed up slut who's career was about over (many truly believed that).

The two main comments I remember hearing from my contemporaries/classmates at the time is that she's "gross" and believe it or not, even then it was already starting, "she's OLD". To 12-13 year olds 34-35 was the age of our mothers....actually my mom is younger than Madonna so, Madonna was technically older than a lot of our mothers at the time.

So basically they are still saying the same things. She's still "gross" but instead of being gross for being extremely sexual (ie: posing with old men, fingering herself over mirrors, faux rape scenes...not mild stuff like the HC album cover), she's gross for not being "age appropriate" and her muscles. And obviously the obsession with her age has only perpetuated over the years as she's remained vital and stayed popular into her 50's now.

The typical teen didn't really appreciate Madonna back in 2000 when she released "Music". At the time, I was with a class of High School kids for the school I worked for and we were all on a field trip. The bus had a radio installed on it, so the station was tuned to the latest pop station. I recall "Music" came on. Of course, I was excited to hear it, but I kept hearing kids groaning, asking the bus driver to change the channel. This is when the song was quite popular on radio. This is the time when Backstreet Boys, Nsync and Britney Spears were extremely popular, but even then these kids didn't particularly like them either. They like the harder stuff. I found it was the Junior High kids who liked the boy bands and Britney more. At the same time, neither group were favorable to Madonna.

  16. Oh yes....I forgot about her! lol. Yeah, she will probably be the silent killer in this battle!

    LOL!

Anyway, I wish Mariah all the luck. It's not like her first single is burning up the charts and huge on radio. But in any event, she is what radio is still willing to play. I don't think pushing back the album is intentional simply to keep Madonna from getting a #1. Though, if Madonna really wants this GH's to go #1, she'll do some extra promotion in hopes it will. And the thing to remember is that the IMMACULATE COLLECTION didn't go to #1, yet it became a huge seller.

  17. It is a difference if you name Madonna's best album or your personal favorite.

The two best albums are LAP and ROL. My favorites are LAP and Erotica.

Well, it's always subjective isn't it? You really can't expect any fan to answer this question without answering with their own personal fav, right? ;)

  18. I never can answer this question. I try to, but just can't. Each album has a number of fantastic songs. I even try to condense it down to which album I listen to the most, and honestly there isn't one album I listen more than the other. I usually listen to Madonna at random. I just pull up her whole catalog and just let them play at random. I will admit that I favor a lot of her earlier albums than later. It just depends on my mood.

Lyrically, her three best are probably "Ray Of Light", "Like A Prayer" and "American Life" albums. Of course the latter two, have a few clunkers in my opinion. Though, "Like A Prayer" still is an album I adore.

  19. indeed

some of that bullshit was cringe worthy

now it's the 'let's figure out why' phase

Let's be fair. People are just being enthusiastic and hopeful. There is nothing wrong with that, nor means people aren't being realistic either. No one really needs to "figure out why" because we know why. The song isn't getting the proper exposure.

I think what is "cringe worthy" is the constant negativity surrounding almost anything she does by the same people all the time. Let's just give this song a few weeks and see where it goes. Not every HIT song goes straight to #1, nor does it get instant airplay. There have been plenty of songs in music history where songs appeared to tank when first released, but rebound.
