They are not even doing a video for it, so why even bother with a release?
Do you people want her to flop?
No video doesn't mean the song would flop. There are plenty of hit songs without videos. No fan wants to see her flop, but I do think some fans do not understand the fact that videos DO cost money. Maybe a video could help the song get more exposure, but unfortunately, that hasn't been the case for her videos of lately. Though songs do not have to have a video to be a hit on the radio. I'd rather them spend the money getting the song radio exposure rather going all out on a video and the song not going anywhere.
I agree that a cool video could be made with this song, but I just don't see Madonna and Warners spending any cash on a video when they know it most likely will make no difference on radio impact or sales.

I agree the whole write up has a negative twist to it. I believe she was just being factious when making that statement. No doubt, it probably was a tough time, but that comment was simply words in how disappointed she was. Furthermore, I don't believe even the comment regarding Paul McCartney was meant to be harsh. I think she was just pointing out that she isn't the type to pull off a great show (as Paul could) by just standing there, playing guitar, singing songs.

Great lookin' cover and great interview. Loves it. It's good to read an interview that focuses on the music for the most part.
-
I would love her to release it as it's growing on me but from a musical perspective, I think it adds nothing to her work. However, given just how great and sexy she has looked on recent appearances, if she carried that over to a video and had fun I think the song would do well. I think if she wore the outfit she wore on SNL and had a Barbarella theme, it could be good.
A video just doesn't guarantee her success for a single anymore. After all, "Celebration" had a video and it's not become a huge hit (at least in the states).
As stated before, in the end, her radio days are over. U.S. will always be a lost cause for her with maybe a few possible exceptions. I think '4 Minutes' was one of them. I mean; you couldn't go wrong by including two producers and popular American acts of the time (Timberlake and Timbaland). There is no doubt she would have crossed fan bases with this song, making it more successful. But I am more convinced than ever without including current and fresh acts into her songs, she wouldn't have had a huge hit with '4 Minutes'. And this could very well work with 'Revolver' if given a chance.
Of course, much of what I say goes out the window outside of the U.S. because people internationally aren't so hung up on her age and who is popular marketing brand of the moment.

I concur. This track has more potential than this Lil Wayne shit. She shoulda released it the day Cuntye grabbed the mic from Swift. That'd be a bold move! LOL
Well nothing surprises me anymore. Thank god she decided to leave WB.
Not a "bold move" at all. It wouldn't even make sense to do it at this anyway. And people would surely catch on, that she would be releasing it on the coattails of someone else controversy. Odd that some would approve of that, when many here are so quick to bash other artists which may take up an opportunity to cash in on controversy, etc.
The fact is; radio wouldn't have played it anymore than if they played it now, so releasing it is wasting money and time when the album will not sell anymore based on releasing it.
-
Love the song. I think it could be a potential radio hit. But her radio days are over. Radio won't play much from her from this point on (of course, I'm speaking from the U.S. perspective mostly). If she was under 40, you can bet "Revolver" would be all over the place. I hate the ageist society we live in.

I think GaGa was supposed to sing first while Madonna was dancing, then Madonna was supposed to sing something, then the fight was to start.
I also think Madonna's microphone wasn't working quite right, because the camera was off her (on Kenan and Andy) but you could almost hear her say, "You are such a little b*tch?!" or something like that, but it was really muffled -- and then the camera went back to her for "What the hell is a disco stick?!"
Gaga clearly sang, "Watch me work, what's wrong Madonna? Can't get into the groove" Then there was a beat (maybe here one might think M was supposed to come in, but ...) Then Gaga came in singing "I guess..." and then Madonna sang "Looks like your wig needs a fix." The backing vocals matched when Madonna sang -- but the backing vocals did NOT match Gaga, so that would make me think Gaga was not on cue somehow. Considering she had two performances to worry about later, I suppose it could be forgiven.
Madonna at least seemed to hold her own, anyway. There were a couple awkward moments, but... she looked great, so, all is forgiven.
I really think it all was intentional, the mess ups, all of it. The whole point was to poke fun at two divas of the day... on older and one quite younger. It makes total sense to have the younger one try to steal the spotlight and fuck up the lines, so the older one can poke back.
I rather not take it too serious as some are here. It's just a silly skit from two great entertainers of our time.
-
It was cute but not funny. Madonna looked so much better than GAGA. That stupid GAGA messed up her intro so we didn't get to hear Madge, what a dumbass. Anyways, I usually don't mind and sometimes enjoy GAGA but her performances tonight her totally self indulgant and ridiculous. It was one random thing after the next and didn't work at all as a performance IMO.
It was intentional. She was supposed to mess up her line. Didn't you follow the skit? She was trying to one up Madonna.
Anyway, I am not surprised at all the negative and nasty replies here. It's become the norm. Oh well! I know that I enjoyed it.

WELL, is BOY CULTURE A RELIABLE SOURCE?
No.
And that original article posted from the examiner proves to be full of shit as well since Madonna really didn't talk about any of those things on David Letterman that the Examiner speculated.
-
Warner probably offered 37 dollars to film a video and flyers stapled to trees in 2 major cities as promotion for Revolver.
LOL!
In any event, I would think this would have been a good song to make a great video with a great story if not some added controversy.
-
Neutrocks you started it!!! You are simply looking for trouble that isn't there.
Huh? This thread is 7 pages in. I started nothing! In fact, if you read my posts correctly, I said there wasn't any trouble there. Furthermore, People have already voiced their opinion regarding the animosity they THINK is there. I just shared my two cents that I disagree and yes, I think some people are looking for more trouble BETWEEN Madonna and Ryan than there actually is.
-
He didn't say it wouldn't be a single - it just won't have a video which as Miles Away proved, means FLOP for Madonna.
Yet the song "Celebration" HAD a video? So your theory is shot there.
I just can't understand why people can't just own up to the fact Madonna isn't going to be the hot commodity like she was in the past with or without videos or constant promotion. I am not saying that a little more effort can't be put into her projects since it is much harder for her to get the exposure she once had, but honestly, I don't see how this really effects you or her fans since we still get the songs, videos, or what not she chooses to do. It's not like she released a video for every freakin' single she did in the past. It's not like she whored her self out, promoting all her albums in the past. In fact, I would think one of her most promoted efforts... "AMERICAN LIFE" got all kinds of treatment regarding great promotion, but it didn't help the album sell any better and it's become her worst selling album (at least in the U.S.).
Again, I don't see Madonna's career down in the tubes. Yes, she isn't going to have the same exposure and success in the past, but as fans, we're not losing much here. If anything, we're getting far more appearances and, touring, etc. than she's done in a long time.
Some people just need to chill and just enjoy her. Be happy, she's still plugging away at it nearly 30 years later.

megalolz at trying to cause trouble
Maybe some people just have that opinion and that is that? Did you ever consider that?
Read again. That's not what I said, and if you were the one who read more into Seacrest's intentions, you only proved to me that you read far more into things that are intended or said, since misreading what I posted. But whatever! I am used to that here!! Carry on... make this a twenty page drama fest. I won't be part of it.

I agree that some are reading too much into it. I think they both had a nice time during the interview and Ryan clearly understand her level of success and power in the industry. I think people are reading to much into it because he seems to like Mariah a lot and people think that everything associated with Mariah is inherently anti-Madonna.
BINGO. And the fact, some people just enjoy to think the worst of people or make judgment calls, when they haven't the foggiest idea what is really going on. Anyone who came a way from that interview, detecting animosity from those two are simply looking for trouble that isn't there. I think Ryan was simply trying to be a gracious host. Whether he meant what he said about her being "hot" or wanting to date her, I don't care. If I was going to question anything from that interview is how Ryan was overtly trying to impress that he thought she was someone he'd like to get with. But I'm willing to admit that I don't know that for a fact and just speculation.
In the end, the interview served it's purpose.
-
Enjoyed the interview. Ryan is a great interviewer. Don't understand the animosity for him, but then again, I am not surprised by some of the people carrying on about him. But whatever. Mission accomplished. She went on a very popular national radio program and plugged her GH's. Guess what folks... that's promotion. And on radio, at that. Not that radio will be inclined to play her newer songs, but oh well.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

TARGET has the DVD. But you have to look. It's not where you really expect. I found them in the section "Best Buys" or something of that sort with all the semi new stuff. And the 2 CD was available in front of all the CD's with other new CDs, while the single CD was found with the other Madonna CD's along with more 2 CD's available.
$11.99 Single CD
$15.99 Double CD
$19.99 DVD
Stuck the CD in my awesome car stereo and listened to the first three songs before going home. It sounded great.

As time progresses though touring is going to become the "end all be all" for her. As is, her latest studio album was one of the top 5 sellers in the world last year, so even on the albums front she's still on top of her game too.....and that was with minimal promo. The fact is though, sales are dropping FAST, Madonna is getting older and she's simply not going to be selling 5-10 million copies of each album she puts out anymore. Celebration will be extremely lucky to do as well as Hard Candy did on it's chart run IMO. With a massive fanbase like hers and as long as she continues to have fairly big lead singles like she always has, then she will remain "current" for a long time. I don't think it's neccesary (nor very realistic) for M to have 3,4 or 5 hits off an album anymore. I'm just not quite sure what fans expect from her these days, promo or not, she's been hugely successful on all fronts the past year or so (albums, touring, one of her biggest singles ever). With her "veteran" status and in today's commercial climate how much more successful can she be really??
I'm not referencing you neccesarily, but I think fans' expectations of the commercial success of this album are way too high and unrealistic.
I have to agree. In the past, her albums sold better, she made more money from them and all the deals she struck within promotion, etc. Now she's that radio and video stations aren't begging for her new stuff. So now she's concentrating on touring. Right now, it's a successful run, but eventually that will run it's course as well. Fans give her a hard time doing other things like movies and writing children books, but she is simply securing a financial future. And she'll always have a decent fan base that will follow her til the day she leaves this earth. And she's hardly an artist right now who needs to take anything she gets. She is still producing her own things that is helping her stay relevant. I will be interest to see where she will be when she hits 60.

I've always been interested in how music contracts really work. So she's paid an advance, but recieves royalties from album sales, right?
Yes... in fact most signed artists are paid up front for their albums. And depending on their contract, they do receive a percentage of royalties once the album starts selling. Their record company usually gives them enough money to make videos as well or any other promotion that may cost. The record company is responsible for a lot of promotion. And yes, they should encourage their artists to make appearances. But the true promotion for an album is touring. Madonna has got it right. The focus should be on touring because for the most part she's got paid and as long as she's holding up her obligation with her record company, she isn't doing anything wrong regarding promotion. If so, the record company would have dropped her long ago.
I just find it humorous how so many claim she doesn't do her part in promoting her music when in fact, much of her career in the 80's and even in the 90's, she didn't do a lot of television appearances/performances. It was only when she released RAY OF LIGHT when she started doing a lot of television. And over the years, she's still done more than she ever did in the 80's.
What is different today? She has to do a little extra leg work in promotion because she lacks radio appeal now and MTV doesn't play her videos (or any video) like they use to. But if I was Madonna I would be doing exactly what she is doing and putting on her big tours because that is where she makes the bucks. Doing extensive interviews these days isn't really going to make her albums fly off the racks. I mean; look at AMERICAN LIFE. She did a lot of TV and store promotion (more than she ever did) and that is her worst selling album.
A lot of fans are too focused on her sales and charting. And while I can understand the artist should be concerned about their album sales, Madonna is still selling far more than most artists these days even newer artists. Her longevity is a plus, so whether he album sells less, she still proves that she is quite relevant in the music business.
In any event, I think this GREATEST HITS set will be a huge seller within time. And I think it will have a big sales debut considering she has the competition of Mariah and Barbara as well as some other artists being released this coming week.
-
Cool. I hope she performs (which is highly unlikely since she's never done so except the acoustic version of "Don't Tell Me".) I hope other appearances and performances will follow. She really needs to do this right.
-
It's not a bandwagon, it's a fact. This isn't about personal taste of whether we like a song or want to "bash Madonna" as you claim. The glitches are there and there's no dispute. You have completely ignored everything I said and just repeated the same spiel for the 20th time.
We don't claim to hear them, we DO hear them. Frankly, I find it bizarre that you cannot.
I agree, so let's move on my friend
Yeah whatever dude! LOL! I'm on repeat, yet you aren't with insisting this nonsense can actually be heard. I just find it bizarre some are making such a big fuckin' deal over this. And I find it bizarre that many are saying they don't hear it, etc., yet you keep hounding me as if I am the only deaf person who refuses to hear this shit you people keep insisting is there!! Go bother someone else about your claims! I really don't care what you believe you hear. I'm done with this thread because as always, people make it personal and just attack. Not that I am surprised!!
-
ugh...you are seriously the worst. words cannot describe.
Why was this necessary? You took a pretty general perspective on my part and turned around and made a personal attack? What have I ever done to you to warrant such an attack? What a mature individual of you. I certainly hope this makes you feel like you accomplished something, because right now, I just find someone who does something like this a "complete ass".
Please just ignore me from this point on. I'll be happy to return the gesture. THANK YOU!

ah, good point. i say it like i even buy cd's, i only buy itunes versions but i do buy hard copies of her albums... except hard candy, ironically. it was buy it and get "ring my bell" or get the CD and get... pink background and crotch shot.
Madonna is the only artist these days I'll buy a physical copy. I'll download the digital versions. In fact, I have a couple of her maxi-singles I've never opened because I have downloaded the versions. She's pretty much the only artist or thing I will foolishly spend money on. Though, I usually stick to the cd's, Dvd's and such. I don't go for all the merchandise. But I'll tell you one thing I would love to get my hands on is a huge TRUE BLUE album (without text) Wall Mural much like the few they sell of the other albums or singles. But I suspect it would be pricey.
-
I think "Like a Flower" is a beautiful song. But I see why it was left in the vaults. And with the leak of the song (even though it may not be CD quality), it's not like we can't put it on our own home made CD. I have.
It would be a huge mistake for Madonna NOT to release Revolver

If I were Warners, I wouldn't "put out the coins" either. I don't see how it would be financially beneficial for them to pay out for a video which may not help the song gain more sales because that's all they care about. After all, they are a business.
But let's be fair, they have paid out on a lot of promotions. Those billboards are cheap. And there have been a number of teaser videos/commercials with some great art put into them, and no doubt that didn't come cheap.
