I agree with Kurt. I don't think any song at this point will help the album become more successful. The two singles released first were the most radio friendly... especially GGW. I've said this upon first hearing it... "if radio doesn't play this song, then it proves they are ageists". GGW is exactly the type of song radio is playing. If any other younger big name female chick released it as a single, it would have been huge. And the thing is, I don't think there is a lot of dislike for GGW for those who aren't as big as fans, so I'm pretty sure if radio just played the damn song like the five songs they rotate every half hour, it would be huge.
I also agree that at this point, I don't think it matters what single they release. If any song does have any chance of getting radio airplay it would be "Turn Up The Radio". Though, with the radio not playing Madonna, I don't see this song fairing any better, nor do I think it would have been more successful or mattered if it was released as a first single.
I do think that releasing anything would have to be a visionary deal where a VIDEO is involved. To maximized the most exposure or attention, it has to be something 'in your face' and possibly controversial. Do I think Madonna will spend anymore money on such a video? Nope... maybe "Gang Bang" since she's been pining for Quentin to direct it. Her focus is on the tour and should be since that's where the money is made.
I've learned long ago, Madonna's a business woman first. She does what makes her the most money. Since she no longer has radio or MTV backing her like back in the early days, she no longer can attract the same attention she used to with the new media forms. Therefore, touring is where she's still her strongest. When fans finally accept this, the more appreciative they will of the music, rather focusing where she's charting and how much she's selling.

^very true, so they could have thrown lots of money into promotion to move a few extra units for little return, because fact is album sales are not what they used to be.
Sounds pretty smart to me.
Yeah, that is why I don't think any more promotion probably would have made much of a difference regarding MDNA. I think for the last several albums and from this point on, we'll see that her albums will debut big, but then drop off sharply. She's the type of artist that the core of her audience buys her stuff immediately as it's released. That could change with the next few albums, allowing her to rebuild new interest, but I won't hold my breath on that happening. Yeah, I'm sure a couple of high profile performances could have generated a little more sales to the album and certainly to the singles, but I am not sure that is the focus for Madonna and her team. Interscope already made back the money they fronted her for MDNA in the first week sales. Her obligation is to Live Nation, so it's evident to me why she's focused on the tour. That's where the money is being made for Madonna and Live Nation.
And I don't care what anyone says here, but GGW is a fantastic song and there is no doubt in my mind radio is just not interested in playing Madonna anymore. If Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and probably even Rhianna recorded and released that song, it would be all over the radio.

Today my aunty told me that she heard M's new single on the radio and she loves it, she asked me if i knew it? (ok stupid question) just to say that the single it is radio friendly but the radios are not playing it, i keep on thinking that whatever she releases is not gonna be played on radio, nowadays radio is quite limited to young artists, and oldies radios will most probably play Like a Prayer or Vogue than MDNA.
I still love MDNA, and think that singles choices are OK, and no other choice could make this a bigger hit, let's just asume that Madonna is not commercial anymore, but she sells fair enough, all those number 1 proves it, and even if it falls out of the lists it is not a question about long living in the charts, let's leave that for new artists, as Amy Winehouse was, Adele is ...
Other than Adele, Madonna is pretty much selling like anyone else in this day and age. I mean; she currently has sold a little over a million copies of her record, making her the 4th biggest seller in the whole world. Granted, she isn't selling albums like she did even ten years ago, but for most artists who have been around as long as Madonna has, rarely do sell like they did when they were younger. Though, look at those who are getting all the radio airplay and attention in the media, and look at how they are struggling to sell even a million copies even in 10 weeks time. Madonna sold over a million in nearly 4 weeks.
So yeah, maybe her album plummeted fast after debuting as the the first biggest week seller of the year. And yes, she may not be selling millions of records like she did in the past, but other than ADELE who else really is? To add further insult, all these other entertainers who are younger and more popular on mainstream radio or media outlets, are doing tons of promotion, etc, yet they can't move their albums. Madonna has done little to none since her album has been released. Though look at someone like Katy Perry.... She's phenomenally huge on radio. Her singles do very well, and she's done a lot of promotional performances. In fact, I compare her exposure and single success to the likes of Madonna's True Blue album, where her TEENAGE DREAM album produced six top tens... (Five of them number ones), yet she has only been able to sell a little over two million copies in the U.S. in the two years it's been released. Madonna back in her day would have sold triple that amount... and has done so with far less successful singles from one album.
It's a matter of putting the current music business in perspective. No one is selling albums like they used to. Adele is the only one currently dominating and that obviously is just a rare fluke. It'll be a long while til we see someone overcome the same success Adele is having currently, and she has had fewer successful singles than Katy Perry.
I know some consider MDNA a flop, but I don't. Not when you consider the fact that no one else who is 20 or 30 years younger than her is selling much more than her these days.
-
its a noveltry track... best if she would have used it as a b-side.
"b-side"?? Are there such things as "b-sides" anymore with less and less physical singles being released and everything is going digital?
Anyway, I don't believe the song is supposed to be taken too seriously to the point of thinking it's the "worst" song she's ever recorded. But I will say that I am disappointed that Madonna didn't utilize MIA for something a bit more serious. Then again, a lot of MIA's solo stuff is quite serious, so maybe she was trying to bring out a fun and lighter side to MIA.

^The Britain version, duh.
Had no idea, there was a "British Version" of the show. Also, wasn't aware she had left the states? Anyway, if true good to see a that Britain might get a live promotional push.

THE VOICE BOSSES LINE UP MADONNA PERFORMANCE
BOSSES at the Beeb are aiming for record ratings by lining up Madonna for a guest performance.
They believe the queen of pop will give the hit show its biggest audience to date.
And they want Madonna, 53, to perform during a Sunday night results show.
A source said: "Getting Madge on to sing is bound to pull in the viewers.
"You don't get much bigger than her she's a living legend.
"The show has regularly been getting ratings of over ten million.
"Having Madonna, plus the all-important results, could push it past the 12million mark."
Securing the pop icon for an appearance would be the biggest coup in TV talent show history, according to insiders.
One said last night: "X Factor's finest hour was getting Britney Spears on but there's no doubt Madonna is a much bigger name.
"Simon Cowell will be furious if The Voice upstages him with a massive guest performer like Madonna in its first series."
Video Games singer Lana Del Rey, 25, will perform on tonight's results show and BRIT award winner Emeli Sandé, 24, is due to sing next weekend.
Hmm?
Unless I'm missing something, the show airs Monday and Tuesday nights. There are NO Sunday shows. The last 4 shows are lined up to air this coming week and next week, airing both Monday and Tuesday nights. Next Tuesday... May 8th is the FINAL result show where the winner is announced.

The U.S. FUCKING SUCKS yet AGAIN! Lol
Sorry I just had to scream!
LOL... I saw that post and knew it wouldn't air in the U.S., but just in case, I went to VH1.com TV schedule and saw the usual 'Mob Wives' and other crap shows they have on instead.

i think it's far too soon to say this record is over and done. saying that, i love MDNA and it's one of my favorite albums by her and no amount of negativity is gonna change that. my flag is up and it is waving! that is all.
Yeah, just because radio isn't playing the singles and the album didn't stay in the top 10 doesn't change the fact it's going to be the soundtrack to the tour, and an album that I'm going to enjoy for many more months to come non-stop. Some fans needs mainstream acceptance of this album to validate it's a great album.
-
But will there be a third single?
Guy did Tweet a week or so back that a third single was being planned, but didn't necessarily act like he knew which song it would be, yet hinted "Turn Up the Radio" was a good choice when a fan tweeted about it.
-
...unless its via satellite a special dress rehearsal performance.
nah, too good to be true.
Why would it have to be "via satellite"? Not that I am saying she's doing this at all, but it's quite possible that she can pull it off. She would have been rehearsing that performance for tour for a couple of months by then. There is no reason why she couldn't pull off a watered down version of it. Being 9 days from her first show wouldn't mean anything since she wouldn't be in that part of the world until two days later if she's planning to be there in a week in advance.
Though, I'd think by May 20th, she might as well roll out a performance for a THIRD SINGLE.
-
someone posted on twitter that she MAYBE open the billboard music awards with girl gone wild
Well, she'll get a decent 7 to 8 million tuning in to her performance most likely. I hope this is true. Though, I have a feeling it will probably just further propel Adele and Justin Beiber if they show up or perform, more than Madonna.
Probably just a wishful rumor.
-
if one tv performance would be too draining at this point, how will it be for a seven month straight tour!!! lol
Let's be fair now. She's been working her ass off in rehearsals. It was midnight, and she just got off from rehearsals and the T&D launch. And yeah, a tour she's embarking on this time around will probably be quite exhausting. I'm not gonna fuckin' complain about how she came off since she is hardly sitting at home eating Bon Bons.
-
Pretty typical interview. It's no wonder why she didn't want to do the usual rounds of interviews for this album. They hardly concentrate on the music. I honestly didn't really care to hear what she thought of Lourdes smoking a cigarette. I mean; even many smokers would say the same where they don't approve of their child smoking or anything they may do themselves or have done in the past that isn't healthy or safe.
But yeah, she looked beautiful, but tired. I for one didn't need to see this interview. I appreciate the fact she's working her ass off on tour rehearsals... and can see that even a one off promotional performance would be quite draining at this point since her focus is on the tour. My concern is that she may be working a bit too hard now.
-
I said PHOTOSHOOTS as props!
-
Yes, there are some pictures of her smoking but they were all before she had Lourdes. She quit when she was pregnant with Lourdes. So it's not something Lourdes would have seen her mother do. You can tell from her voice she isn't a long term heavy smoker. Smokers have deep hoarse voices. Her voice is still very high and youthful so she definitely hasn't smoked a lot over the course of her life.
You're right. She was more of rare casual smoker. In fact, the only time I really believe we saw her truly smoke is as props in several films/videos, when she presented GEORGE MICHAEL at the '89 VMA's, (but it was more of a prop then) and during the filming of "Take A Bow" (and she claimed to be smoking because it kept her from eating, so she could fit well in her tight costume). Yes, she has done many videos or photo shoots using cigarettes, but that doesn't mean she was smoking. And I've seen no evidence that she has smoked since having Lourdes. That's 15 years. Her thoughts on smoking could have greatly changed since then.

It's "Some Girls"
Oh geez, I knew I would do that sooner or later. I am a huge P!nk fan and I always keep associating her song "Most Girls" when I think of "Some Girls". LOL!
-
Last week's telecast scored a whopping 2.62m viewers and a 0.5 in the 18-49 demo. Yep, that's the kind of audience reach one strives for these days!
Yeah, I'm baffled with why they picked for her to go on this show. Not only that, her interview will be airing against the second hour of American Idol. She should have done 60 Minutes instead. There is a larger demographic there. Ideally, she should be doing AMERICAN IDOL.
-
I rather have the poster. It's far more unique and cooler looking. Also, much cheaper. I find it a bit ridiculous that the Lithograph is so expensive when in reality, it's just a poster as well. So big deal if a number of authenticity comes with it... it's still a $75 poster. That's outrageous.
I bought the TRUE BLUE one when it was reduced to $25 last summer. Unfortunately, they didn't start shipping them until this last Christmas.
I love it, but it's just a poster. I've always wanted a wall poster of the True Blue album, so when it was marked down, I jumped for it.

To me, it really comes down to the lack of radio airplay. I don't think it matters what song they could have released, I think we'd be fighting the same fight here. I know a lot of people think TUTR would have fared better, and maybe it would have, but I highly doubt it. GMAYL potential seemed logical since it did include a pretty hot rap act of the moment with it. So I totally understand why Madonna and Interscope were on board with that being the first single as well as the tie in for Superbowl. Though, Nicki has over saturated the market with being featured on a lot of tracks in the last year. As for "Girl Gone Wild", I'm sorry to say, but no matter how one wants to try to justify that it isn't the right first or second single, I disagree. It's exactly what radio is playing which goes back to the fact, radio just doesn't want to play new Madonna music. Therefore, TUTR would have and most likely (if it is a third single) fail to do any better.
Those pining for GANG BANG to being a single to help salvage the album, are being unrealistic. I don't even believe on an international level that it would work. I don't believe radio would play it anywhere. It's just too dark and violent for pop radio. Do I think it should be abandoned all together as being featured on the album? No. I do think that it should become a VIDEO single. I think an epic and/or controversial violent video could muster up some interest. This idea of trying to get Quentin Tarentino could work, but the thing is that the longer it sits on the back burner, the more contrived it becomes. With both Madonna and Quentin being super busy it just adds to that complication.
I'm game for whatever her team decides to release. I love the album, but the fact remains, most record companies wouldn't lay out anymore money to the artist for future singles/videos after their first two haven't produced. But anything can happen. I suspect TUTR if becomes a single will get a live concert footage video.

Not tired of MDNA, but since playing non-stop up until today, I've let it rest and I've pulled out the Deluxe version of CELEBRATION.
And I guess I'm one of the very few who pulls out an album by Madonna and DOESN'T skip tracks. And while "Some Girls" at first was one of the first few tracks I wasn't digging the most, I've learned to really appreciate that song. Though, I'm still having trouble warming up to "I'm Addicted". Everything else is great to listen to in it's context and even randomly.
-
I don't even care if Madonna's tour sales decline because those idiots don't know 1/2 the songs. It'll just make it easier for us, the fans, to get good tickets in the future.
Plus look at any tour by any current artist, they rarely do just their hits. Most of them don't even have enough hits to fill more than 1/2 a show. Lady Gaga (dare I use that comparison) only has 11 hits to date.
When I saw David Bowie I only knew 1/2 the songs, and yes everyone got 10x more excited everytime he did a big hit but we didn't walk out of there complaining. It's a good balance. Sticky & Sweet was a good balance and I bet MDNA is as well. If she pulls a Drowned World or Girlie Show well THAT would be a mistake. The days where she can get away with that are gone
Also... why would anyone at this point of her career, think they could go to a current show of Madonna's and think she won't perform new songs from her latest album? That's what most artists do. They record an album and that album serves as the soundtrack to the tour, plus whatever older hits the artist prefers to perform. So yeah, I don't really feel sorry for anyone who comes to a Madonna show, and leaves disappointed because she performed her new songs over a lot of her old ones. Madonna isn't the sort of artist who puts on a GREATEST HITS show. Her closest was probably RIT, but even then much of that tour included many songs from AMERICAN LIFE, and from what I can tell a lot of people left quite satisfied.
In other words, don't be a dumb shit and go to a Madonna show expecting she's going to sing all her old hits when she has a bunch of new songs she is excited to perform.
And why are 1/2 the people on this forum literally obsessed with what haters are saying? If you're a fan you should love this album and be excited about the tour. Do you need the album to sell 10 million copies to enjoy it? I don't. I don't care what anyone else thinks about it/her.
Growing up loads of people thought Madonna was shit/old/untalented/for gay people/a has been etc. Who cares.
Exactly. It seems to me that there are some fans who are obsessed with her selling millions of albums and charting high, so it will justify it being a great album to them. That's a load of crap. A great album is great album no matter if the masses make it a huge hit. There are plenty of fantastic... if not stellar albums by plenty of artists who don't have even one hit song from their album. If the album is great, then no matter how Madonna chooses to promote it and how some silly critic negatively criticizes shouldn't matter to you.
-
Because her tours make no difference to her album sales and haven't done for quite a while. This is a great album that is sinking suddenly. Although album sales overall are dropping, individual single sales are now soaring as you can pick and choose which tracks you buy thanks to iTunes. However, even that way, Madonna's not selling well. The first two singles have tanked.
If all she is bothered about is touring to make money, why bother with a new album? She has a vast back catalogue she can promote.
But again, you are FOCUSED on Album sales. I'm not! It's all about the tour these days. Not that I'm obsessed with how much she makes for the tour, but this is where she's concentrating. She knows these days albums don't sell, so she's going straight to the tour where the money is being made. Why is it so hard to grab that concept? The albums sales mean squat these days. If that is all you're going to focus on regarding Madonna's success, you're going to be deeply frustrated and disappointed. But I'm sure Madonna isn't as along as she's making millions more with her concerts.
-
I think that regardless of how much promotion Madonna does or doesn't do,the main focus of the fans I feel should be on 2 things;the quality of the music that she's released ( I think MDNA is her best work since Music) and the spectacle and entertainment value we get from her tours. Whatever negative articles the press print about her,I couldn't care less about how many records she sells. The main focus that has kept me a Madonna fan now since 1989,has always been the music, and as long as she continues to make great records and put on kick ass shows, that's all that matters.
-
Since I've been posting here longer than you have heart, I don't feel that I really need your acceptance or understanding, thanks anyway.
I'm rather puzzled that you seem to think that after signing a 360 degree multi platform deal with Livenation for however many millions, specifically for the purpose of utilising her name and popularity to generate additional revenue streams, Madonna would be within her rights to go off and make money by lending her name to something without it being part of that deal. What exactly would be the point of them paying her all that money??
ROTFL!! So I guess since "on record" you've been a member here longer than me, it justifies everything and anything you say without any clarification. Love that logic.
Again, why are you so certain that any side project she does, it's part of the 360 deal with Live Nation?? LIVE NATION is in business with her regarding her music... not gyms. After all, this is what the topic is about isn't it? You are trying to conclude pretty much Madonna was paid a lump sum for whatever is shoved in her face, with no other reason but to fulfill Live Nation's deal.
LIVE NATION is pretty much a CONCERT PROMOTER. They originally were trying to attempt to distribute music as well, but that hasn't happened. Her deal with LIVE NATION deals with her albums, concerts and merchandising. I fail to see how that really applies to GYMS and most likely her fragrance. Even more, you can bet Madonna gets a percentage cut of profits from all merchandise on top of the money she was already given and promised by LIVE NATION.
I don't know how much money LIVE NATION has made back from the 360 Deal, but I suspect much of it has been made back and/or will be after this tour.
WTF Happened...? To all or any momentum...

LOL... Momentum is going strong for me. Love the album. Can't wait for the massive tour. Some just need to let go of the silly idea that she needs to go on TV, have hit singles, be played on top 40 radio, and sell a kazillion albums anymore. None of that will change the fact I love the album and look forward to seeing her put on a extravagant show of 20 plus songs versus one performance here and there that isn't going to do shit for a song that isn't selling or charting. The album is already the 4th best selling album of 2012. Those before her with the exception of ADELE aren't really that far ahead of her in sales. It's so strange to see some fans so fixated over her sales, charts and lack of promotion when she's about to embark on a huge ass tour that will put to shame any silly interview or promo stint on any TV SHOW.
