I love how she says: "aha what a shocker...
and the Oscar goes to My Heart Will Go on from Titeeehnic...
"
I kinda got the impression she was rooting for/or liked the "Good Will Hunting" nomination to win by the way of her expression and the way she smiled when mentioning it.

She looked gorgeous. She was riding respectively high from her "You Must Love Me" performance from the year before and had just released "Ray Of Light".
"You Must Love Me".

some of my friends who are only casual madonna fans adore GMAYL. I never understood some of the hate for it, but understand why people feel its a shitty first single(and agree with).
If i'm addicted was the first single from the album, you know for sure she would def. be playing it again on future tours!
I guess it doesn't matter. What's done is done. Nothing is gonna change. Most of what people think here is subjective anyway. There is really no real way to know that "I'm Addicted" would have done any better that GMAYL. Though, I do think she is the type of artist who will perform non-singles or non-popular singles again if she really likes them. For instance, "Human Nature"! Who would have thought that she would have pulled that out so many times on tour? For me, it totally makes sense since the song directly expresses who she is and what she believes in about not being afraid to express yourself, etc. It's become a signature message/song of her career now. Though, why not pull out "Express Yourself" instead since it's far more known and far more popular? To me, "Human Nature" has more of a punch to the message than "Express Yourself". "Human Nature" also conveys more... such as she doesn't give a shit what people think. So yeah, I don't think she necessarily passes on performing a song just because it wasn't picked as a single or because it's not a popular song.

Would have had the same impact as GIRL GONE WILD. Sorry guys. lets be real
Agreed. Possibly more successful in Europe than in the U.S. It's an obvious fan favorite, but that doesn't necessarily make for a good single. Also, I don't believe it would have been well received at the Superbowl. GMAYL worked perfect for that event.

I think I figured it out. It's called the secret project, so if they ever released it, it would no longer be a secret project. Thus, it can never been revealed. It will forever be a secret. And we will be better off for having not seen/heard/smelled it.
LOL! You might be onto something here.
Seriously though, I actually believe they decided to do something more with it than planned. I suspect the intention was to release it some time ago. Besides, there was no specific time stamp for the release. I agree it's been drug on too long with the teasers, and I'm concern that the momentum may be lost by now. We'll have to see what comes of it. Maybe Madonna decided to do something on a grander scale than originally planned.

For me, it's really hard to "Rank" Madonna's albums in a specific order since each of them got a hell alot of play and contains atleast one ultimate fav track that made me fall in love with Madonna all over again. I only rank them this way based on which albums I can currently play over and over. And that can easily change depending how I feel. So obviously, this is subjective...
12. EROTICA: In retrospect, this is a solid and underappreciative album. Lyrically probably one her bests along side 'Ray of Light' and 'Like A Prayer'. I still laugh everytime I listen to "Where Life Begins" when she says, "Colonel Sanders says it best! Finger lickin' Good!" And while I do not really like the instrumentation of "Secret Garden", the lyrics are pure poetic. She brought classic Madonna with "Deeper and "Deeper", and a classic M. ballad with "Bad Girl". I love how she took us on this sexual journey and then took on once again, being the voice for Aids awareness and trying to unite people with songs like "In This Life" and "Why's It So Hard?" The two songs I cannot get into is "Waiting" and the track that samples it "Did You Do It?" The latter song is easily disposed for me.
Ultimate fav track: "Rain" (Beautiful love song! At the time, it was sorta different from her past classic ballads).
11. Bedtime Stories: This album was a perfect wind down to whom she was prior. While it seemed to bring out a more softer side of Madonna, it still included a few songs and lyrics which pretty much said "Fuck You, I am who I am, and I am not gonna stop". Not only that, it brought back out the brassy and forward Madonna that we all love with it's last two singles, "Bedtime Story" (promo special) and "Human Nature" (which seems to be a staple theme song for Madonna on her tours). That said, we still did get a lush R&B sound that shows off her beautiful voice as well as a preview of what was to come. I did feel like she did jumped on the Babyface wagon a little too late, but that said, I really liked the collaborations they did on this album. I don't think the whole album flows completely well. Though, it's still quite enjoyable. The softer songs were a pre-lude to her compiliation "Something To Remember" while songs like "Bedtime Story" and "Sanctuary" gave us a glimpse of what was possibly to come with 'Ray of Light'. 'Bedtime Stories' seemed to sum up the persona she built up throughout the late 80's and early 90's, and it was evident she was about to turn the page and re-invent herself once again (See 'Ray of Light').
Ultimate fav track: "Take A Bow" (Fell in love with it when I first heard a snippet of it before the album was released. It's like a beautiful lullabye).
10. MDNA: Like "Bedtime Stories", I feel this album is a transition album into something great to come... at least that's what I'm hoping. I feel like we got a mix bag of current sounds and some possible future sounds she may be thinking of tackling. The more I learned in the development of the album, the more I realized, I didn't feel like she wasn't sure where to go with this one. I also feel like, she may have been the least connected with this album as it seems a number of the songs were given to her. But of course, she put her own spin on them. "Gang Bang" is definitely proof of that. There is definitely some darkness to this album. She tried to connect with a number of songs which obviously were about her marriage and relationships that were cut loose. I'm one of the few who really adore "Give Me All Your Luvin'". Certainly, it's a cheesy pop song, but it's fun in nature much like her songs of the past such as "True Blue", "Cherish" and "Material Girl". Of course, I am not comparing the songs, but I just felt the songs and videos came out 'tongue and cheek'. I also felt GMAYL was a perfect song to use for the Superbowl. It had a bit of the nostalgic classic Madonna to it with a bit of current sounds with the rap. "Girl Gone Wild" is another song that screams current mainstream pop. I still think that if this song was released by any other well known female pop star that was much younger, it would have been a hit. I feel like this was perfect for radio and mainstream success. The same goes for "Turn Up The Radio". Yes, they are the fluffier songs on the album, but they were pure fun. As for the order of the tracks and what went on what part of the album, I don't care. Albums, unfortunately are not a huge deal anymore. In this digital age, most zoom in on particular tracks. The highlights for me are "Gang Bang", "Girl Gone Wild", "Love Spent","Masterpiece", "Beautiful Killer" (classic Madonna sound), "I Don't Give a" and....
Ultimate fav track: "Falling Free" (Every song that involves Joe Henry and Madonna are my favs).
9. Hard Candy: Once again like on 'Bedtime Stories', I felt she jumped on the bandwagon a little too late regarding those she collaborated with on 'Hard Candy'. Still, it's a very enjoyable album. "4 Minutes" made total sense as the first single. It may have come off more like of a Timberlake song than Madonna, but I really feel that at this stage in her career, no other song from this album without him or Timbaland would have been as successful as this one apart to maybe "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You". I feel this was the album she was trying to get back in the good graces of the U.S. audience. So she capitalize on R&B sounds that were previously flooding current pop radio. Again, I think she jumped on that wagon a little too late. Still, she managed to carve out some great sounding tracks. "She's Not Me" comes to mind as pure classic Madonna. I also felt the sound of "Dance 2night" is reminiscent of "Keep It Together". I loved "Miles Away", but I really thought "Devil..." was the stronger ballad song and could have been a potential hit if radio was willing to play it. "Beat Goes On" probably should have been the single over "Give it 2 Me" as it seemed to have more mainstream appeal. I do feel that this album will definitely feel dated (if not already} as time goes on. It's flavored with what was already current and may have been a bigger hit album for her if it was released a year or two before.
Ultimate fav. track: "Devil Wouldn't Recognize Me" (I know some despise that it's peppered with the Timbaland sound, but I love their previous work on One Republic's "Apologize" and a couple of Timberlake's songs).
8. American Life: This was Madonna being her most pro-active at best. Too many fans gave her shit about this era in her life, being involved in the Kaballah and being tied down to Guy Ritchie. Though, I feel this is probably one of her most utmost honest albums. It definitely is underrated. The problem is that all the press she was doing for the album was during a volatile time. She spent more time talking or being asked about the state of the world, rather what was on the album... which was pretty strange since she performed a number of the songs live. Not that I have an issue with her talking politics, but unfortunately, 'American Life" became labeled more of an "anti-war/American" album when it was nothing of the kind. Not even the title track was about the war. Though, the artwork and original video did convey differently. I feel people became confused or turned off by her at this point. I do understand why she scrapped the release of the video. I don't think she lost her balls here. I just felt like she put things in perspective. She saw what happened to the lead singer of "Dixie Chicks" when she spoke out against what the president was doing at the time. I felt she thought of her family first. I commend her for that because up until she had a family, it was always about her, her, her. Of course back then, she'd probably release such a politically charged video, but she now had a family. Nevertheless, the album is pretty great. I love the folksy sounds blended with the electronic sounds. I loved seeing Madonna behind the acoustic guitar on some of these songs. Classic Madonna blended with electronicdonna with songs "Nobody Knows Me" and "Hollywood". The music for "Mother and Father" is definitely another classic for Madonna. The lyrics... meh!?!?. I do feel people may look back on this album in the future and give it more respect, or maybe I'm just dreamin'. I'm actually hoping she'll do a strip down folksy acoustic type album in the future perferably with Joe Henry.
Ultimate fav. track: "X-Static Process" (Beautiful guitar and mesh of harmonies.)
7. Like A Virgin: I absolutely hate that I couldn't get this one into the top 5, but I have to be totally honest with myself. Her debut album and and number of her future albums were top notch compared to 'Like A Virgin'. That said, it's still what made her a household name throughout American. While the 'Madonna' album was obviously her "break out" album, it wasn't until this album came out that her image, persona and name went hand in hand. All the girls wanted to be like her. It was a time where it was cool for gals and guys to like her. It began the evolution of her becoming a mega-star. Unfortunately, the album is quite dated. It's definitely chalked full of date 80's sound. Still, she managed to pull out classic Madonna with "Material Girl", "Dress You Up" and "Like A Virgin". Personally, I am not a huge fan of the title track, I do prefer a number of other tracks over "Like A Virgin". I absolutely adore "Stay". I remember sitting by my cassette radio at the time, waiting to hear/record "Angel" and "Into The Groove" when both were on the radio simultaneously. It was before I owned a Madonna record and it was the pre-lude to me becoming a huge fan.
Ultimate fav. track: "Stay".
6. Music: I really feel this was a perfect follow up to the 'Ray of Light' album. It also gave us a little glimpse in which direction Madonna was heading with 'American Life'. Love the mix of both Mirwaiis and Orbit throughout the album. I also feel this was the last album that globally she was given mainstream top 40 radio success... especially in the U.S. I think it went downhill from here where radio stopped playing her new music to some degree. The title song was a perfect anthem to sum up the career she's had before within music. It was like she was channeling her earlier party dance hits like "Everybody", "Holiday", "Into The Groove", "Where's the Party" and "Vogue" all into one song. She's right "Music does bring people together" even if it's just for a short time. I feel she etched another classic Madonna song in her catalog. The follow up single, was definitely a highlight for me as it brought together a bit of folk/country/electronica and pop in one song. I loved the message she was singing about never telling her stop. It's every reason why I think she and Joe Henry should do a whole album together. Maybe it's too late, but I still would like to see it happen. I'm one of the very few here probably believes "Amazing" would have been a better third if not fourth single. As for "What it Feels For A Girl", it's a lovely song, but I do love the mix they used for the video. I also loved the video even though I think Madonna and her people try to make it more controversial than it was. Still, a great video accompanied the song. The ending song "Gone" was once again a perfect closing song to open the doors of what became the album 'American Life'.
Ultimate fav track: "Don't Tell Me"
5. Madonna: Classic 80's album. I have to agree with everyone and anyone, this album is chalked full of dance/pop songs that define what the early to mid 80's were about in music. This is the album where Madonna was carving herself out a piece of the 80's and managed a grab huge hunk for heself. And while I agree, he voice wasn't something out of this world, I do think that between her distinct sound and voice as well as image is what captivated people. I really hadn't known Madonna at this point of her career. I've heard of her songs, but didn't associate her name with this album until a year later when Madonnamania started. I'll never forget wearing out this album dancing to songs like "Holiday", "Lucky Star", "Physical Attraction" and "Think of Me". Oddly enough, I never warmed up to her first top 10 song, "Borderline". Of course these days, I have total appreciation for it. But I never understood how that song did much better than the many other songs on that album apart to "Lucky Star" which I believe took a re-release to get it to the top 5.
Ultimate fav track: "Burning Up" (In fact, it may be my most favorite track by her ever!)
4. Confession on a Dance floor: To me this is Madonna coming full circle to her earlier work with her first album and 'True Blue', but with a more futuristic electronic sound. I'm so glad she and Stuart Price worked together on this. And I secretly wish they worked together again on a future album. "Get Together" is so classic Madonna with a futuristic sound. It combines the very theme "Holiday", "Everybody" and "Music" were going for. But of course, it's not as good as those three, but it's still great to have on that album. "Hung Up" didn't really ring well with me. I like it, but I really felt it wasn't really a strong first single. I really felt a lot of emphasis was being put on the Abba sample. Nevertheless, it was a huge hit world-wide as the album. "Push" is one of my favorite tracks on the album and thought it would have been great as a single. It was definitely the one song that fit current mainstream radio... at least in the U.S. I do remember thinking when the title of the songs leaked, they were fake. Some of them were so minimalistic... too simple. But once I heard the album, the titles didn't matter anymore. It is probably one of her most cohesive albums from start to finish. I remember thinking how odd she would write and name another song called "Forbidden Love". I do wish this album got more love in the U.S. than it did. It seemed by the second single, the album kept soaring internationally.
Ultimate fav track: Sorry (Classic Madonna!)
3. True Blue: This is the album that made me a complete loon. I would have put this #1, but she simply blew me away again after this album. It's not really a deep and personal album either. Though, it's freakintastic anyway from start to finish. It was "Live to Tell" that reeled me in as a huge fan. That video! That voice! The whole transformation! Pefection. My heart swooned several times within this era. And OMG, when I saw the album cover and when she cut her hair shorter and then "Papa Don't Preach". Lock me up now! I went too loonvile!! Ha! The five singles from this album were like a different and new Madonna each time. And wow... "La Isla Bonita"... just beautiful!! It was with this album where I started collecting everything and anything regarding Madonna. I remember being so disappointed thinking that Madonna hadn't filmed a video for the song "True Blue", since their was a huge deal with the "Make My Video Contest" on MTV. It took me sometime to realize there was an actual video, but it was rarely shown on U.S. MTV. Though thank gawd, for the Madonnathons on MTV because I eventually caught it. This was the year, I sat next to my parents VCR recording every video she filmed. I remember at the time "Burning Up" and "Everybody" was rare to catch. At the time, everyone thought she had matured, and she did, but guess what? Her next studio album showed even more maturity in her writing, etc. 'True Blue' immortalize Madonna into a international mega star. She was referred and respected as much as Michael Jackson, U2, Tina Turner, and Bruce Springsteen. This album definitely is an example of great pop and played a huge part in pop culture at the time.
Ultimate fav track: "Live To Tell" (Next to "Take A Bow", it's my most favorite Madonna ballad) .
2. Like A Prayer: 'True Blue' may have been the first signs of her maturing in music, but it was this album we got a more personal and reflective Madonna. Her vocals sounded more emotional and raw. Once again, she floored me with her look with the title track's video as well as all the promotion leading up to it. I remember sititing by the television set to record the Pepsi commercial during the Cosby Show. I remember all the controversy that followed the next day and weeks after once the original video aired on MTV. Madonna proved that she had staying power with this album. She managed to dupe Pepsi by not really promoting shit with them, yet all the publicity that some of the public and Pepsi made of her Like A Prayer video, allowed her to laugh all the way to he bank. If I recall, she was able to keep half of the money ($5 million dollars) they already paid her since they broke the contract with her. Once again, Madonna took over MTV many times with weekend long Madonnathons. From start to finish, I was memorized by the sounds, lyrics and images she projected from the album. I still remember the scent (patchouli oil) that was packaged with the album. It was the first studio album I knew of far in advance and remember sitting in my bedroom, browsing through the lyrics while listening to the songs. I recall upon first listening, favoring "Keep it Together" over "Express Yourself" (It wasn't until I heard the 7 inch remix when I became strongly attached to "Express Yourself"). I guess "Keep It Together at the time resonated more with me because I was the middle child in the family and sometimes felt like the "clown" as well. Each video from this album again, showed us a different side of Madonna. If anything, this album will probably be most remembered by the mainstream simply for it's iconic tite track "Like A Prayer". I feel it's the one song that most people think of (especially casual and non-fans who are familiar with her work) when thinking of Madonna. The album is quite the journey where it takes you on a spiritual awakening, to not being afraid to express yourself, to her rocky marriage, to the beautiful ballad in memory of her mother ("Promise To Try") to a fun classic pop song, to family issues and back to spiritual. This is definitely one of at least three albums that a fan should own if they truly believe they are a "true blue" fan.
Ultimate fav. track: Well, of course "Like A Prayer".
1. Ray of Light: This album simply redifined Madonna's status in the music world. Everything you knew of Madonna before pretty much was thrown out the window... well at least for awhile that is. This album is genious. Before this, she was still battling being taken seriously as a musician. A lot of people still had her pegged as sexy pop tart from the 80's and early 90's that may have taken it too far. This album proved once again there is more to Madonna then catchy pop songs, sex, and controversy. What's even more, this was truly a spiritual awakening for Madonna. This is the person she evolved into. Shortly before that, with Evita and having a child, a lot of people were giving her much more due respect. This album only amplified it more and gave her real credibility in the music world. The lyrics are her best to date. They are profound, poetic and thought provoking. Her work with William Orbit was perfect at the time and could never be duplicated again. I know she worked with William several times after, but nothing has compared since this album. I absolutely love songs like "Drowned World...", "Swim", "The Power Of Goodbye", and "Mer Girl". "Ray of Light", the song seemed to be another great dance anthem remembered in her catalog. It's definitely a song she'll pull out more than once in the future when touring. The haunting sounds from "Frozen" and "Mer Girl" are just beautiful. I'm afraid to think where Madonna would be without this album in her resume'. I do understand why some fans expect more from her after this album. She proves she can deliver a well written and composed album. The problem is, this isn't what Madonna is most remembered as. It's part of her legacy... a big part of it, but most people revert back to the 80's Madonna. I think as she gets older it may be easier to write more serious stuff, but I don't think it will have the same impact as 'Ray of Light" did at the time. But who knows? Anything can happen. All I know is that I absolutely loved how she evolved into this era. It's definitely her best work yet.
Ultimate fav. track: Mer Girl (It definitely is a darker side of her writing we never got to see until then).
-
Well well well it all looks and sounds rather splendid to me, and let's face facts, when you are standin in a crowd watching the Queen strut her stuff, nothing else matters, I'm not gonna whinge that she didn't do such and such a song.
And I think there's more to the Gaga stuff stemming back to the SNL fight spoof. At the end of the day they are the ones sitting back laughing counting their piles of money while one Madge loon sits there in his home made cone bra and headset ensemble tweeting furiously to some Gaga Monster in his trailer park crying over the fact his latest hair bow didn't take and M ripped off Alejandro with her Vogue video
Oh, i'm just sick to death of this Gaga vs. Madonna crap. This is SOOOOOO a fan feud, not an artist one. Madonna wouldn't be including a song that she blatantly said herself that reminded her of her own song if she had an issue with Lady Gaga. Both sides of the fan bases perpetuates the feud. It's just hilariously ridiculous how some keep going on and on about this nonsense when neither artist dislike one another. I cannot believe the time and energy some fans on both sides give to this crap, rather just appreciate the music they do like. Instead, we have both sides ridiculously going overboard to the point a lot of the comments and such are becoming dangerously threatening and downright immature. The fact we have a zillion threads devoted to bashing Lady Gaga at this very community says it all ... that Madonna fans can't even find some maturity and rise above it... when that energy and time could be spent on things one does like. And mark my words, someone will take this a step too far and possibly physically harm someone over this stupid fan feud.
You're right though... all that matters is Madonna is still getting her groove on and she's still on top of her game.
As for all the video footage/sounds... I really am liking what I'm hearing so far. I love what she's done to OPEN YOUR HEART. She sounds so gorgeous singing the version she's doing... what I've heard of it.
-
OH DEAR GOD!! Just from these few pics, this is above and beyond what I thought this was gonna be. It's like BAT meets DWT meets....idk....perfection!!! Assuming that hotel is an actual "set" and not a video, this looks like it could be a good mix of Madonna's "old school" stages and the new style + some. It looks fucking amazing truly!! I cannot wait!!
AND it looks like she's gonna have the poof!!
THANK YOU GOD!!!
Yeah, when I saw the motel room stage set up, I immediately thought that it reminded me of a play. Obviously, this is for GANG BANG. Nice to see she was able to bring her vision to stage since she mentioned "motel room" video for Gang Bang! I'm excited!!!
-
I don't hate it either. In fact, I absolutely love the main chorus:
"Still/And Yet... I have no regrets
Cause I survived the biggest test
I cannot lie and I won't pretend
But I feel like I lost my very best friend"
I just don't really like the over all production of the song.
-
Radio won't touch it because of its lyrics. But how do you explain the fact that radio barely touched GMAYL? Do you think that song resonated with the audience? If it had, the radio would have gladly played it and it would have sold millions after SB. It didn't. Yes, LET'S NOT KID OURSELVES, GMAYL is one of her weakest songs/singles.
Well yes. And since critics aren't necessarily fans, the fact that they unanimously appreciated it is telling.
Wait, I am not talking about GMAYL. I'm talking about Gang Bang as a "radio song/single". Those are two totally different type of songs. In fact, GMAYL did get radio exposure. That's how it reached #10. I'm not debating what is or isn't the weakest songs/singles. I'm discussing the fact that radio won't touch Gang Bang. It has nothing to do if I think the song is weak or not. I think Gang Bang is far superior than GMAYL, but that still doesn't mean the song will work on radio and resonate with the general masses. As stated before, the purpose of a single is to appeal to the general masses. This is why most successful entertainers, pick "radio friendly songs". And yes, GMAYL and GIRL GONE WILD are typical radio song.
But if you want to debate why GMAYL (and GGW) isn't being successful on radio... "Let's not kid ourselves"... top 40 radio is geared to a younger audience. Madonna doesn't fit into that audience anymore.
High praise from "critics" doesn't automatically assume the song would be great as a "single" or on "radio". It just means; it's an overwhelming great album song that is highly appreciated. In fact, I do recall reading reviews of the album where a lot of praise went to Gang Bang, but it never was mentioned it would work as a single or on radio.
-
You don't know that. GMAYL connected with almost nobody. The fact that pretty much everyone has praised GB and named it one of the highlights on the album says a lot. People (non-fans included) like GB more than GMAYL, let's not kid ourselves.
Funny you say that. You're right "let's not kid ourselves". You're basing "everyone" praising GB on whom? Critics and fans? Because those are the people mostly praising it. And please spare me the nonsense... "I played it for my friend (or whomever) and they love it". That very well may be true, but I'm sure that "friend" or whomever aren't really into Top 40 music or what's on the radio either. Mark my words, GB will not resonate with the general public. In fact, many will go "What the fuck?" It's too gritty and violent. It isn't Madonna usual style. Radio won't touch it. "Let's not kid ourselves!"
-
Well, i doubt that Bob Dylan's fans would be very happy if he released GMAYL as first single
Just kidding, i get what you mean, and i think you are right. I said that the album is "half good" because i think that at least 5 songs are incredibly weak compared to the fantastic songs that are included there.
Well, I think over all the album has been received positively among fans and most critics. (Keep in mind, many of the "critics" aren't even fans and I couldn't care less what they think). Certainly, there are fans who probably dislike the album more than you, but I'm sure there are many more who like the album as a whole if not most of the songs.
I like GMAYL. Certainly not her best song, but I think it suited the purpose it was intended. I think some fans are too focused on the single choices when for the most part, those are chosen to simply resonate with a general audience. If it was up to die hard fans, they would pick songs "I'm Addicted" and/or "Gang Bang" as singles, but in truth, they wouldn't connect well with the general population and that's what singles are supposed to do. This is why most artists try to stick with more safe and radio friendly songs as singles. Though, I really don't think it matters for Madonna anymore because current pop radio isn't her audience anymore. That's where most single success is measured unfortunately.... top 40 and hot 100. Though, I've accepted that of Madonna because I knew this day would come. I knew that no matter how great her album, it most likely would not jive with the general public.
-
Sadly it is. It baffles me that some fans are happy that she earns 500 million this year if that means that the album is half good. I mean, if we were to inherit some of that money, it's easy to celebrate but as fans... what do we care if she earns 90 millions from a perfume if it's true that she didn't spend enough time in the record studio?
Maybe i'm too old and don't grasp this new music business
That's subjective. I don't see MDNA as "half good". I think it's a great album over all. Furthermore, I was under the impression that most fans were on board that this IS one of her best albums. That all said, I know some fans do not like the album as much as others. That's expected of any artist. Also, I don't think "some fans" are really concerned about the money. Though, I try to look at it from Madonna's perspective... as an artist. I mean after all, she's the type of artist that wanted to become wealthy and famous. A lot of entertainers strive for that. Considering the state of the music industry, if I was in Madonna's shoes, I definitely would be focused on touring not making silly appearances that really isn't going increase much sales to the album. Furthermore, the time one spends on an album does not necessarily reflect on the QUALITY of the album. Some of the greatest albums were made in a short amount of time.
In the end, how much she earns, whether she charts high or low or the promotion or lack of promotion she does shouldn't be OUR concern. That all should be Madonna and her teams concern. We should just enjoy the music and stop worrying about the acceptance by the general public. It really seems to me that's what many fans are too wrapped up with. I'm sure the die hard Bob Dylan fans aren't whining about his lack of popularity these days, yet that doesn't stop them from enjoying his new albums and any sort of touring he does.

Let's face it. She's old and ageing quicker by the day - this is a very significant factor for a pop artist. She isn't flavour of the month anymore and she knows that she has a shelf life so she's cashing in on her brand while she can hence she has her finger in so many pies right now. It's all downhill from here on. Her focus is on the contracts, the money and creating a spectacle...but not necessarily on the quality or the detail.
I agree essentially with what your saying, but I don't think the quality and/or the detail is an issue here. Most people agree MDNA is a great album. Of course, some have their thoughts/reservations regarding the single releases, but over all, it's a top notch album. As for "detail"... I'm sure she's paid a lot of attention to detail when crafting the album and I'm sure with this tour as well.

It's on the top 5 so far because no major acts have released albums this year, if Gaga, Britney, Katy or Rihanna would have released albums this year Madonna would be out of the top 10, let's not kid ourselves.
But Katy did release an album this year... granted it was a rehash of Teenage Dream, but you'd think since nearly every single of hers went #1 and the rest top 5, she would be selling her album like hot cakes. Also, Rhianna released her album last November, since then she's only sold a little over a million copies.
But to me this is just silly talk... Like Kurt said above, for such a flop, it has managed to sell over a million which is more than what most anyone is doing anymore (except if your name is Adele). I am not even sure Britney and Gaga would sell much more if they just released an album. Both their last albums have underperformed to a lot of people (though, I don't know how since Lady Gaga's last album went on to sell over 8 million WW. If I recall, Britney's last album only sold about 2 million WW).
The music business isn't what it used to be. Artists aren't selling albums like artists of the past. But who are we kidding... Madonna just doesn't have the same mass appeal she did before. It happens to most artists who have been around for years and years. The music business success is mostly measured within the younger generation anymore. I don't agree with it, but if you look at those who sell albums, they are usually younger acts... lastest trends. Madonna doesn't really fit that mold anymore.

I put my order in the other day. I just don't understand why it's an "import". Though it's double the price what a domestic CD-MAXI would sell for, so I suspect making it an "import" makes it worth more.

This.
She is about to give the world the most mind blowing show on a gold platter. Working her ass off 24hrs a day for what is about to be the show to end all shows. There is no time for one off performances for TV this era, sorry but the tour IS the promo. Every detail and every effort put into it will be well worth the wait. The tour will start in less than 2 weeks so this negativity will be all but a faint memory. I expect nothing but a combo of DWT RT CT
with all the amount of creative juices she has poured into this show for the past three months.
THANK YOU!

To be fair, I didn't remember who I was replying to all that time either. I cheated and went back to read just before my last post lol. It does get confusing..
Anywho, I'll agree that a killer video directed by Tarrantino would make all the difference. Without it, things are a lot more risky, mainstream-wise.
LOL... yeah, I just didn't go far enough back to see that you had replied to my earlier post.
But yeah.. Killer video, no holds barred. Let it be as controversial as possible. I'm up for all that.

We had this exact same convo last night. It's in this very thread
Madonna is at the point in her career where she has the luxury to not care about mass appeal anymore. She's Madonna. She's got that, forever and forever. Why so concerned that she chases what she already has? It's like her buying two of the exact same dresses or me buying that remix CD of GGW when I've had the remixes for two months.
I understand what you're saying that many, like yourself, care about lyrics and the seedier stuff may be a bit of a turn off. Yes, absolutely, you're correct. But why is THAT crowd consistently more important than ppl who feel otherwise? She catered to them w/ GGW and, now, TUTR. Change it up a bit and make EVERYBODY happy. Mo' money, Right? Gang Bang can do wonders for her at this point.
Actually, I had missed your earlier replies. Totally forgot it was you that I was having the discussion with.
In any event, I need to clear something up. I don't care if Madonna has "mass appeal" as she did before. If she does, more power to her. I simply was trying to convey that releasing the song as a single seems pointless if you're looking for an "underground club hit" when to me, such "hits" are more likely created when it's not a very well mainstream song. Also, it doesn't need to become a single to be an "underground club hit". But the general purpose of a "single" is usually meant to appeal to a large majority. I'm not saying that is HAS to or it can't be just for the fans. I'm not saying that I care if it does appeal to a mass majority. In fact, I don't think it will.... well, unless she does some magnificent epic video that had a director like Quentin tied to it. I'm sure that would make some noise alone.
And finally, releasing "Gang Bang" isn't going to make "Everybody" happy nor do I think it will "do her (Madonna) wonders". In fact, I would question in what ways would it "do her wonders"? Yes, a lot of fans would be happy, and I think that's the only reason this song would get a released... especially if it was a video... to please many of the fans. But in the end, Madonna is so versatile in her music, she can never please "EVERYBODY". The proof is in the plethora of discussions just among the fans over the likes and dislikes of singles choices vs. other album songs from MDNA and past albums.

Exactly, the club it's more about beats than lyrics and GB delivers in that area. True, and this is to neutrocks, you're not wrong in that it's your opinion. But you are "incorrect," let's say, that the lyrics wouldn't work in a club environment. This is fact: Darker lyrics work quite well; consider Offer Nissam's style — he's typically very dark and there's a reason for that. Maybe we're talking about different types of clubs, idk. The trendier mainstream like all that 'let's party, dance and have fun' stuff. But after-hours, underground stuff, which are always popular, have no problem w/ the heavier stuff.
I just meant, it wouldn't really resonate with some people such as myself since I pay attention to lyrics, not just "beats". Again, I am completely aware a lot of others wouldn't have an issue. And being a fan, I'd be floored just hearing the song in a club.
However, that's just a minor thing I was getting at in my previous comments. I never said I objected it being a single, but someone I quoted earlier made it sound that it should become one simply so it can be an "underground hit". That's when I ask, but what's the point of releasing it as a single since singles are to appeal to a large general population. An underground club would be minimal exposure and for the most part, the song would just appeal to die hard fans in that environment. Anyway, I was pointing out that it needn't be a single to be an "underground hit". In fact, some clubs are playing the song or unofficial mixes now without it being a single.

You're just plain wrong about that. There's nothing amiss about the lyrics to GB in a dance club environment. The only thing I'd say about them is that they're mixed a little too low, volume-wise. But a DJ w/ her dry vocals doing a remix could easily fix that.
No, I'm not wrong. It's just my opinion... and there are a lot of people who think the same, regarding a song being played that is mentioning killing their lover. Yet, I'm certainly aware there are people if not just as many people think there is nothing "amiss" about it being played in the club. I'm one of those people who pay much attention to lyrics, so if I was in a club (a non-fan most likely), I'd probably think it was odd dancing to a song that is talking about offing their lover. That's just my opinion.

Is it true that most albums don't even sell a million these days? Wow. Well then, yes, MDNA is NOT a flop.
I think it's another issue other than lack of promo that bother ppl. It's about not having anything physical to buy for so long. This whole era I've only spent 9 bucks — for the CD. I'm not looking to buy GGW remixes at the end of May. I already have them! Back in March I was dying to spend money on M, but there was nothing to buy! At least this is where Warner's was better.
Yes, it's true. A lot of artists are lucky to break even... and in many cases, that's when they rely on a tour to generate revenue. What people have to remember, artists (such as Madonna) are making a living with their music career. When certain aspects of that career starts generating less money, they find other ways to make money. It's easy to say... "oh, but she doesn't need anymore money". Well, from our perspective, that seems easy to think, but to continue to live their lifestyle and pay those very people who help her put on her shows, then yeah, she does need to keep making the money. A tour just doesn't magically happen without money. It costs a lot of money. And we've learned to expect something extravagant from her as well.... so that really means a lot of money is poured into the tour.
I do understand the disappointment of the lack of physical single releases. I does puzzle me why they wait so long to actually release a physical release. Granted, physical copies don't sell as well anymore, but even when Madonna was when Warners, they would wait forever to release the single and/or mixes.
There is really no reason for a song that was released back in March, that it took to May for a physical copy to show up. And even then, it's limited. I bought the GGW physical mixes just the other day which is due for release at the end of this month, but that's an IMPORT. From where? I don't know because it seems the UK version is an import as well. Hmmm?

This is the absolute FIRST time I've actually done that. We've had a dispute in the past, although it was a dispute from ur point of view only. I don't harbour ANY
negative feelings towards u & u should really stop acting like I do.
Sidenote: Holidaygay is one of my boyfriends from the Dotmusic days
I only tease him 4 being hung like a giraffe.
Now, do u wanna hug me and make up?
No, it's not the first time. And you've said some other crappy stuff to me in the past as well. Also, I don't "act" like you harbor any negative feeling towards me. To do that, would mean I have called you out about it many times before. In fact, I've never called attention to you about your behavior towards me until above. As mentioned, you're not the only one who has done this. Yours and few other reactions for the most part are due to general animosity that has nothing to do with what I've personally said to you. If we've had a disagreement about some random issue, I have long forgotten it. But I have seen you make rude comments to me from time to time. That all said, I'm not here to fight. If you're serious about wanting to get along... that's great.
But enough with the shitty attitude towards me.

An issue!? Why is everything an issue with u? I was just teasing..
Oh the fuck you're not. Just like several other people on here (who quoted your "teasing" comments to me in this very thread), every time I take more than a sentence or two to express my opinion, rather than you (or others) actually replying to what I said you have to pop off and make some snide remark to the length of it. It's getting fuckin' old. I've done SHIT to you, yet you among a few others predictably keep hammering me when I make lengthy posts... just like those do of Kurt and even Holidayguy back in the day. So don't please give me that shit your teasing because you never reply to my topics with something to say other to "TEASE" me. So either quit the fuckin' bullshit or just ignore me. I'm here to talk about Madonna, not fight with you. You can assume I'm making an "issue" of it, but not ONCE have I ever given you a hard time or given you the idea that we're on terms of "teasing" one another.
Opinion: Madonna doing an intimate tour. What do you think?

Oh but you have to admit it would be a fan's dream to attend a smaller venue where she's surrounded by her fans, just chillin' and giving some insight to some of the songs she could perform acoustically... much like from the Storytellers sessions on Vh1. Certainly, she isn't that sort of artist, but I think it would be cool, and it could give her a bit more credibility to being a live singer without all the vocal effects and backing tracks. I understand some fans would find it boring since we are so used to her high energy concerts, but maybe when she's 80, she'll be willing to sit on a stool and plug away at some of her well known songs in an acoustic format. Never gonna probably happen, but it would be an awesome intimate setting.
