I'm curious to see if I will enjoy Secret P because I have not liked what has been previewed, and leaves me with negative feelings about what she has been doing creatively in her career right now. Hope to be surprised in a good way.
Well, quite possibly the next few weeks are going to suck for you once all the publicity and attention (good or bad) she gets from this.
Honestly, I can't see how anyone can get negative feelings from brief synopsis of a message about "Love" and bringing people together. I fully expect you, other fans and plenty of other non-fans will just not get it. They will just pick it apart and look for any negative spin to it when the message is about bringing people together.
-
She's gonna piss so many people off (even fans) who will not get this at all. You can betcha. Some are gonna try to twist the visuals into something it's not. I love it, because once again people will be reminded, she's going no where.
On a side note, all the pics/videos and messages to hype this up on her part, I hope this is a hint of what she does when she gets back to the music. I'd love her to just spill glimpses of her next music project on social networks and in personal videos as she's done this project to hype it up.

I think what I think best represents her and what the public thinks best represents her are different. Being a hardcore fan, I can choose songs that casual or non-fans may have never heard or remembered that best represent her. The public has a different perception of whom she is as an artist...
Public:
Holiday
Crazy For You
Material Girl
Into The Groove
La Isla Bonita
Like A Prayer
Express Yourself
Vogue
Ray of Light
Music
Personally:
Holiday
Crazy For You
Live To Tell
Like A Prayer
Express Yourself
Vogue
Take A Bow
Human Nature
Drowned World/Substitute For Love
Don't Tell Me

I don't think I've ever watched this show completely from beginning to end and I don't think I want to.
Wow! I would think anything from this era would be essential listening/watching for all fans. This was an awesome time to be a fan. Everything she released seemed to turn to gold. She was climbing that "Mega Star" ladder at this time.

i prefer erotica as well, compared to lap. but ray of light, and erotica is def. a close tie for me as favorite(as well as the first album)
But this isn't about what is your fav album. This is about an album that brought new life into Madonna's career. With ROL, she was far more introspective, open and personal than she's ever been. LAP was the first album where it seemed she was reaching to be a bit more introspective and personal. Of course, it's nothing compared to ROL, but she was at the height of her career with LAP. Erotica (at least for me) was more about pushing the enevelope with being sexually provocative. Erotica (the album) is definitely poetic in certain aspects, especially lyrically. It really gave us a glimpse that she was able to write semi-profound lyrics, rather just simple catchy pop songs.

The only way Madonna is going to get any cred in movies as an actress is to do something that is so far removed from whom she is and something people wouldn't expect. For me, I would think she needs to be willing to do a role that is very raw and not glamorous at all. I'm not saying by doing this she would pull off a great performance, but part of me feels there is ability within her to play a good part in a well written script. Even in some of her worst acting efforts, she had many times she shined. She just needs to let go and stop trying so hard to act. She comes off too stiff and wooden. It also needs to be tied to some big time director and have another one or two well known actors/actresses, which people will be willing to go the theater. The truth is, as great as she looks on the big screen and as famous as she is as an entertainer, she isn't a box office draw. If anything, even when promoting the film, she probably should stay away from doing press and let the other actors do the press and let the her part in the film speak for itself. I know that probably wouldn't happen, being she's a huge celebrity and the executives of the film would want her to do press to draw attention to the film, but again, people aren't interested in seeing her in films, but a number of us fans.
I agree she's not the worst actress, but she isn't the best. Though, I really loved her in a number of her films that didn't do well. I love her in "Who's That Girl". Dumb movie, but pure fun to watch! Nick Finn is adorable.

Does the page refresh on it's own when she answers or posts something at that link?
-
Yeah, she isn't going to share much info on her next album, other than she might be currently writing or possibly when she's expected to head into the recording studio. I highly doubt she'll mention any one she's planning to work with or thinking of working of. She's usually pretty tight lipped on her future projects especially her music.
It seems so random for her to use a social network a lot of people haven't heard of (and obviously a lot of people haven't heard of it of all ages) with nothing to promote. So I gather this is probably connected to The Secret Project since that is soon to be released.
I do hope there's more to it.

It finally caught on a year or so later, but good to see she's still starting trends...
But then again, Gene did it decades before them both....
-
I know all that.
+ Imagine and Hey you and that Confessions b-side about piece were all crap..
So still, NEXT!
Love how you think your opinion only matters when determining what the world thinks is crap from her.
Not that I think "Imagine" and/or "Hey You" are even close to her greatest songs/covers, but I'm quite happy that she has over 30 years of music that I don't have to keep focusing on the crap I don't like.

I never thought she lost any creativity. I think people are just caught up in the fact that she isn't as popular as she used to be. Fans/people tend to follow what the masses feel and assume she's "lost it" when in fact, she's an aging entertainer. And in all honesty, she's never really been away. It's just her music isn't as popular as it used to be. Doesn't mean it isn't good. On each recent album, there were many killer songs. There is no doubt if they were sung by artists much younger than her who are currently popular in the mainstream, those songs would be huge. I really feel her music usually gets better. Of course, she has a few corny songs, but guess what, she's always had a few of them. I know a lot of people don't like "Jimmy Jimmy" and "Birthday Song", but they are just pure fun, much like some of her biggest hits. Fans expect her to create some masterpiece with each album with profound lyrics and new sounds. Sorry, but much of her early career her lyrics were pretty simplisitic. Even many of her later hits were. She's always been a head of the curve regarding sound in the past, but I don't expect her to keep up all the time. I don't expect she owes me anything. And I hope she keeps doing what SHE WANTS. That's what has kept me a fan all these years. She does whatever the fuck she wants and people still love her.

Then there's this one...
She sounded pretty good and the choir was awesome.
-
But what about "Hope for Haiti"?
Sweet for the occasion! But those vocals were pretty awful.
I personally think the S&S version has the biggest punch. It really grabs you. And I love the sample of "Feels Like Home" in it.
Of course, BA is classic. Superbowl was quite surreal based on the fact, it was performed for a crowd of people who aren't huge fans of her. It obvously was a great choice as it has become one of her biggest signature songs that is univerally loved. MDNA was pretty much an extension of that performance.

I don't care what anyone says. Cher is a really good actress. Her movies from the 80's are very good. What I loved about many of her ealier roles, she chose roles that weren't anywhere close to whom she was personally. "Mask" is one of my favorite films with her in it. That film and "Silkwood" were two films that was far far from the persona she created.
I do think that between the plastic surgeries, the tabloid stories, the many (and young) men and "If I Could Turn Back Time" started to devalue her credibility as an actress. I mention "...Turn Back Time" because that song was huge for her and the video was even bigger. She looked great and the fact she was half naked, I feel people stop taking her seriously as an actress and thought of her as a bigger than life personality. It seemed her roles after that weren't as good even though there were very few. Though, you can tell she gets really into her roles. For the most part, especially the 80's film, you forgot she was Cher.
I agree she's a "showgirl". That was what catapulted her to fame. Her and Sonny had a great run. And of course, everyone loves a good story when a woman breaks away from their partner/husband make it huge on their own. And I saw her on her FAREWELL TOUR. I was quite impressed. Of course, she was untouchable and did not engage the audeince as much as her opening act on some of her dates, Cyndi Lauper. Cyndi is just crazy. Gotta love her. She would go right out into the audience, high five them and dance with them. Cher would never do that.

I had thought there was talk she was planning to bring one of the books to film/television/animation?
Some here may make fun, but the books do share a good message in treating people with respect and recognize that it's good to be different. I can understand why Madonna felt to go down this road at the time of her life. I do think her doing things like this, shows that there's more to her than being provocative and getting naked. I think it's given her some respect through the years that she's willing to share positive messages to our youth, even if it was driven by her own experience with her own children. Good artists are inspired by their own experiences.

its lovely melody but the orbit sound is dated..
Well DUH... it was recorded back during the Music sessions. LOL!
I would love to actually hear the full version and wonder if there are actual lyrics/vocals to it?
Interesting how the show this piece was used for was axed for controversial content when today, it probably be nothing to air.

Let the meltdowns begin!!

But of course, tours have become more thematic and cinematic, but truth is, she didn't really invent that wheel. If anything, she took from groups like Queen, Kiss, and solo acts like David Bowie and Elton John and elevated it. They all were quite theatrical and dramatic and put on great rock shows. And even U2 was quite extravagant with their touring before BA. I'm sure many of these acts I mentioned, if they had the technology and stamina Madonna has now, they would have been just as creative as she has been. I really feel that U2 has always been a step a head of Madonna regarding tours being quite cinematic. I can't say that are currently as great a she is, but then that can come down subjectiveness since I'm a huge fan of Madonna.

Wonderful post, but I think the same as Mensch that the 20 minute video is not all of it. I like his idea as well. The reason I think there is more to it is because even before everyone started talking about it around the New year there was talk of a major collaboration between Madonna and Steven Klein about a film. Even if I was mistaken or the date was incorrect on what I read, they have been working on this for too long to be just a 20 minute video. You could be right though.
It was filmed right at the end of her tour last year. Obviously, the intention was to release this earlier. No doubt, a lot of attention was given to this to perfect it. Maybe they kept changing and adding things. But yeah, as someone said above, Madonna.com clearly states it's a 17 min. video. Don't go down that path in setting yourself up for a disappointment.
-
and OH MAH GAWD BITCHES - i just figured out how to post videos again!
LOL... yeah, you just post the link. Don't use the "media" tab on the tool bar to embed it. My problem is that I can't get any of the embedded videos to play at the forum. The player is there, but the screen is black with a title of the video. If I click the TITLE link in the embedded video, it will take me to the video at Youtube. If I press the play button at the forum, the screen just goes black.
-
Oh cheese... it doesn't say she "forgot" it. She just says she "barely recalls" which her follow up to that tells me that it isn't something she thinks about. I'm sure the same is for Madonna.

I have this feeling that the 20 minutes that were screened were just the 20 minutes of basically what we've seen and that it's more than that. I think the footage that we've seen is part of the 20 min. And hopefully it'll be a mini documentary that's going to be longer and interwoven into the footage we've already seen.
That would be cool if true, but I think that's just WISHFUL thinking. I believe it's just the 20 min. piece. It will be probably be more of an internet shared event. I doubt we'll see it being showed on television or on any paid cable network. (Though, I hope I am wrong!) I expect the content will spark some talk/controversy on various social networks and news shows. Also, I count on, people criticizing it, tearing it apart, misinterpreting it, and bad mouthing Madonna, instead of actually taking a page from the message. That said, I still think it's cool Madonna is using her influence to try to make a change and get people talking. For me, she's using her popularity for good. The truth is that Madonna isn't a celebrity that has skeletons in her closet or major drama/breakdowns, etc. for anyone to bash her on. So all they are left with is the creative content and the persona she's presents. This is why I believe she's been one celebrity that is hard to knock down. She doesn't let what people think of her stop her from doing what she wants to do. She just does it. In the end, Madonna has been a really positive role model in the world of entertainment and celebrities. Most of the negative shit thrown at her is based on the art she always presents, not the person she really is. I guess this is why people are intrigued with Madonna because no matter how open she is and how much we think we know about her, her personal life is still a bit of a mystery and seems pretty normal.

I have to agree... the whole project is to make people think and discuss the issues all around us and hopefully come up with or offer our own solutions, etc. This idea that Madonna shouldn't bother because one questions "who will it reach?" or it's "impact" is silly. I'm sure a lot of people thought the same of Martin Luther King when he gave his "I have a dream..." speech. That speech since has been etched into the American culture and had started a revolution itself in treating people equally. We've come a long way since then. It has made an impact. Of course, this is just one example specific to one region. I'm not saying Madonna's project will have the same impact, but the fact we're here talking about it, shows it's potential. She's a very popular celebrity/entertainer. She's simply doing her part. Using her popularity to spread a message that we can make changes if we just get up off our duffs and do something. It's all about taking a stand. It's a pretty universal idea. It's been expressed many many times in the past. No doubt, the video will spark enough interest to get people talking... good or bad. Those who just sit there and criticize the content are the very people who are the problem, while those who actually are inspired by the message and do something (even if it's a small change) are the true revolutionaries!!!
Secret Project REVOLUTION!

Some people still have yet to figure out that Madonna isn't the entertaiment moguel she is just because of her music. Yes, it's a huge part, but her persona, controversy, and side projects have always been a huge part of whom she's become over the years. Certainly, she's better at delivering music, but again, I don't believe she would be as interesting if it was just about the music especially in more recent years. And the fact, she uses her fame/influence to try to make positive changes says a lot. People have said for years about famous people... "why not put your fame to work... do something positive with it". So she does, and still people try to find any way to twist it into something negative or bad. Mark my words, they will do it again. It's a no brainer to gain attention on anything these days is to do things that will rile people up. Some probably won't like how she chooses to get her message across, but any other way would probably get no attention at all.
Even if her attempt to get people to react and join her for this cause fails, she at least can say she tried. Most importantly, she'll be back again. Nothing is gonna stop this woman until she's buried or she finally says... "I'm done" which I don't see happening anytime soon.
