I love listening to her early work. It was obvious she was still defining her sound. Let's appreciate even the ones that were best forgotten...
Take Me (I Want You)
High Society Boy
Are You Ready For It?

great video for a great song...
btw...don't stop as a single........
Why not? It was quite catchy and as dollhouse mentioned, radio stations were already hopping on board in playing it even when it wasn't a single. Is it a career defining and memorable song, not a chance. Bedtime Story was a great choice to show Madonna's versatility in music at the time, even though it wasn't a big hit for her.

Anyone who thinks this dress is a fashion failure for a creamy smooth pop icon goddess is on crack. That is all.
I guess I'm on crack because I thought it looked awful, but she still looked fantastic and loved the performances.

It is obvious that you are stans. Everything she does is great.
It's obvious that you can't make a difference between good and bad fashion.
Wrong because the one pic you posted of Madonna at Star Academy, I thought that outfit was atrocious, but it's my opinion. It's subjective. I accept that you didn't like her outfit at the Billboards, but I'm not trying to insult your taste in fashion. You seem to think your opinion is what the majority thinks.
You remind me more and more of the member formally known as "Pop". Hmmm?

It has nothing to do with her body. I was commenting the clothes.
So what if it is MUSIC awards show. She appered in such shows before and she looked perfect.
Don't tell me that you think she has never been a fashion failure.
Look, I'm not one of those fans who doesn't think Madonna's shit doesn't stink (though, I'm sure it comes out smelling like flowers and potpourri . LOL! )... but who da fuck really cares if it's a "fashion failure"? It's subjective anyway. I thought she looked fuckin' hot that night. And her clothing choice (especially at this event) is all about her body and not caring what anyone thinks, even you. She looks fantastic and she isn't afraid to show off her legs and ass, wearing this outfit.

^ so did I
Great post, neutrocks! She's always had those cheeks. It's one of those things that made Madonna, MADONNA. Personally I don't see all the fuss w/ her looks lately...or ever. She always looks great. I think media chooses the worst pics of her sometimes bc more often than not she looks straight outta Virgin Tour era ever since MDNA Era started. And I'm loving it!
Also happy to see the Celebration pants again. She looks incredible (those ain't easy to wear and look good in). Her thighs look pretty damn muscular. I guess you could say she's gained some weight but, uhm, let's remember she was exceedingly underweight during S&S so bitch can certainly afford some fries and pizza. Jesus, if anything, she's probably still technically underweight.
I love grossly underweight Madonna (S&S) and so-called "fat" Madonna, too. When she starts hitting a size 14 then we'll talk but even then it really shouldn't make a difference (But gotta admit it does. I don't want a fat Madonna). Anyway this convo is stupid. There's nothing wrong w/ the way she looks!
Thanks and exactly. The cheek thing is so overblown. I'm not saying she isn't injecting stuff in her face, to make them more puffy, but the fact is that it does resemble her early to mid 80's look. It wasn't until she started becoming more of a fitness freak, her face started to be more tight and firm. But we saw those chubby cheeks again when she was pregnant both times. And oddly, fuller cheeks do make people appear a bit more youthful. I think what probably is the issue these days is her eyes. They seem to be more sunken in and age telling, so seeing her cheeks more full, the eyes stand out... at least for me.
And you're right, on tour (after all the rigourous rehearsals), she seems to be super tiny, but in between the tours she tends to looks a bit more natural in weight. And even so, I'm sure most women her age would die to be her size in weight.

She is a fashion icon with great taste, but this is fashion failure. I think she wore this on purpose, just to be funny and provocative.
You do realize this is Madonna being Madonna. What do you think she should show up in a floral dress, accepting these awards? For gawds sakes, it's a MUSIC awards show. These sort events (apart from the Grammys) tend to bring out those celebrities who are known to be provocative dressers.
And I agree with the person who posted above, mentioning that I think she was trying to be humorous in her dress. I mean; what 54 year old woman do you know dresses this way... ANYWHERE? It's Madonna, and I'm betting as long as she has the body to show off, she's going to flaunt it for as long as she wants, to prove that when you turn 40, you have to start covering up.

I don't think it is underrated by critics. It received good reviews.
Agree that it could have been more saccessful if more radio-friendly songs have been released as singles.
I am glad BS and HN are released as singles, they are great songs and BS is one of her works she has done. Radio-friendly songs shouldn't always be realesed as singles, I always think that the best songs must be singles, no matter are they radio-friendly or not.
She should do this more often. Imagine if she had released Future Lovers or Gang Bang as singles with great videos.
SIngles are released to appeal to the masses, not just the fans. People seem to forget this. Singles are chosen because they sound more mainstream and are hoping for radio airplay. This is why a lot of musicians early in their career stick to releasing singles that appeal to mainstream to build a fanbase unless their aiming for a certain genre or fan base that isn't as mainstream. Madonna has always wanted mainstream/commercial success. It's only once that musician has established a decent following, they start releasing more experimental songs. Still, most commercial musicians try to stick to more mainstream singles since they know their fans will most likely buy the album no matter what the singles are. Obviously that has been the case, since we seem to have a lot of fans who have a difference of opinions of what singles were good songs and what weren't. I highly doubt, Madonna would have released "Bedtime Story" if she didn't have a string of successful singles and a huge fan base to back her. "Future Lovers" and "Gang Bang" wouldn't have made good singles, especially the latter. A video for "Gang Bang" would have definitely brought more attention to the album, but unfortunately, it probably would have been negative since the video would have been quite violent and it seems from just all the criticisms she got for the performance on MDNA tour, prove that.
Back on Bedtime Stories, I agree with Vocalism that "Don't Stop" and "Forbidden Love" would have most likely been far more successful as singles since they were very mainstream, especially "Forbidden Love". In Amercian alone, any song at that time that was tied to Babyface was guaranteed success. "Forbidden Love" would have been a wise choice as the final single from BS before the ballad collection was released and it could have been tied into that release as well.
"Don't Stop" is a very simplistic pop song much in vein to her earlier songs like "Lucky Star", "Holiday" and "Into The Groove". Though, I am not saying the song is any where close to being memorable and/or iconic as those three I mentioned.

^ It may be underrated by critics and some fans, but it was extremely successful at the time. Had she chosen more radio-friendly singles after TAB, I'm sure it would have sold as much as Music, if not ROL.
Have to agree. TAB was massive at least in the U.S. That song had a long life span on radio. So I guess releasing Bedtime Story as a single was an interesting choice to show her more experimental side. Any song after TAB, would have been overshadowed for the most part. Bedtime Story and Human Nature weren't really great for radio. Though, I remember MTV played the hell out of the Human Nature video.

Oh good gracious... I check in to see the latest appearance she's made and people are still going on and on about her cheeks. Get over it. I think those who criticizing her are making a bigger issue of it than it really is. I think she looks fantastic and she does look like the classic 80'sdonna... like here... oh gosh look how huge her cheeks were back in the day. Must've been implants back then too. LOL!

One of the best songs on COADF. Great message. I wish the video was better.
The Confessions Tour performance was good.
I thought it was great. It was a pretty simplistic song to start with, so the video makes sense. I think she looks fantastic in the video.

The song and video that finally turned me into a huge fan. It definitely was a pivotal change in her career. People didn't expect this, even though she did quite well with "Crazy For You". But it was this transition and the True Blue album that turned her into a Mega Star.

When will Lola release her first single?
I get the impression, Lola's more interested in acting. But who knows? She seems to come off to me as wanting to be more private than Madonna and Rocco. So maybe she will choose a career where she's not constantly in the spotlight.... which is pretty hard for being the daughter of Madonna, but it seems the last few years, she has manage to keep to herself, other than working on the fashion line.
Early Madonna Appreciation.
