  1. Hello! After performing "Vogue" and "Material Girl" last year, my kindergarteners and I recently wrapped up a class film based on the children's book "Miss Nelson is MIssing" and kiddos covered "This Used to be My Playground" for this scene. They used the song to reminisce about the good times they had with Miss Nelson and realize how they took her for granted. We also referenced "reductive" for this. I thought you guys would get a kick out of it. If you enjoy video, you can check out the rest of the film which has M references throughout. I couldn't help myself!

A VERY special thanks to Mattress for helping me with the instrumental edit of the song!

  2. She put a lot of work and effort into making ROL into what it is today. From the engineering, the lyrics, the melodies, the instruments, the production, she had a hand in it all because she wanted a stellar album that showcased she was a changed woman, and because she wanted Grammy praise. Sorry but it's the truth. There's a reason why Guy O had a hand in the studio.

As much as I love that album, my 2nd favorite from her, it does come off as being a bit artificial. I'm NOT saying that her heart was not in the project or that it was forced or synthetic, all I'm saying is that you can hear it in the album that she really wanted praise.

And it's a bunch of bullshit to say that her lyrics recently have been simple and embarrassing. Singles aside, that is absolutely not true. Some of her deepest lyrics have come from the past 3 albums. Take the bitter taste out of your mouth from GMAYL and Bday song and look at the other tracks. Fuck, look at the tracks that built the other albums from the abandon musicals; you can hear the heartbreak so early on. She's been giving us her life story even after ROL.

I think you hit the nail on the head with ROL. It's great album with strong lyrics, sometimes ROL feels like it came from the head rather than pouring out of her heart.

You're are also right about the music that has come since ROL. She's had some fun, light-hearted frothy stuff, but many album tracks are also very extremely well-written.

  3. Because she's having her cake and eating it too, and most people can't stand that. She's a woman in her 50s that looks amazing and is still a force of nature. The "normal" thing to do is to let yourself go, step back, and concede to your age. Being a victim also helps. She hasn't done any of that. It is not that path she's taken, and defying this convention really irritates people, so they make unintelligent, unfunny jabs to put her in the place they want her in, and at the same time make themselves feel better about their miserable existence.

  4. I think I'm one of the few that really likes this song. It's one of those happy-go-lucky-put-a-smile-on-your-face songs. It's bright, fun, silly, and cheerful. If songs were blood relatives, this would be "Cherish's" cousin.

  5. It's all such a waste.

    I would have gone:

    November: Masterpiece (with video)

February: Turn Up The Radio (also performed on Superbowl - the LUV Madonna chant included in Superbowl performance and on a remix of TUTR)

    May: Girl Gone Wild

July: Gang Bang (iTunes EP featuring remixes for Beautiful Killer and I'm A Sinner)

    October: Love Spent

December: MDNA Remixed with selected album tracks and promo video for I'm Addicted

GMAYL would not be released and remain a leaked demo

    I love this. Brilliant!

  6. I understand what you mean and the same thoughts have crossed my mind, but then again, it seems like there's always something people don't like. For every tour since DWT, I've always heard people complain about the lack of 80s hits. Yet, she still sells those concert tickets when she goes on tour. I don't think the lateness of the shows will affect her ability to sell out arenas. And if Denver didn't look full, I would venture to say that it's because greedy scalpers were left holding bags of tickets at the end. I think she'll be just fine.

  7. The show was incredible!!! It was surreal being so close to her (i could actually touch the stage!), and I think she really appreciated our enthusiasm in the triangle because by the looks of it, most of the arena was dead. The only song they really came alive for was Like a Prayer. Still, it is a show jam packed with awesomeness!!!!

My only regret is not saving the battery on my phone because I couldn't record "Everybody." I got most of her speech though. As for pics, my camera phone sucks and the girl doesnt stand still for one second, so they're all blurs. Still, pics and video don't compare to being there. WOW WOW WOW!

  8. This album is absolutely brilliant and deserves to be treated as such. I really wish M would release several videos and singles out of this, regardless of airplay. Heck, radio won't play her anyway, so she may as well just release what she wants and create some really spectacular videos. Whether that'll translate into sales, who knows? But then again, who cares? She has all the money in the world so she can just create art for art's sake. It would be a shame to let this masterpiece of an album just die down because it's one of those albums that can add greatly to her already iconic legacy.
