Dude, I work in education in LA.
How did you convince the coordinators and principals to okay Madonna into your teachings? LOL!
"So reductive"
"What does that mean?"
"Look it up" *Drinks Capri Sun*
As long as the songs (or snippets of songs) are g-rated, it was never a problem. Our principal encourages us to integrate the arts, so I always had the green light to be creative. Songs like TUTBMP, Nothing Really Matters, Bedtime Story, Material Girl, Holiday, Live to Tell were all parts of plays or movies that we made. The "Living For Love" video was actually just recycled video footage from the "H is for heart" segment of our alphabet video. Our plays and videos are actually tied into literacy because they're acting out the stories and learning a lot of language and reading comprehension. Our English language learners learn a lot through music, so why not M? At this point, we have 60+ videos!
Where in LA do you work Harley Quinn? Do you work with young children as well?

Congrats!
Does your new job involve teaching?
Thank you! I'm still going to be involved with teaching, but in a different way. Rather than have my own classroom, I'll be going to different schools everyday to teach theater (and spread the gospel of Madonna all over Los Angeles). The only problem is that I will not be at any school long enough to produce any more videos.

YEEEEEAAAH congrats. Oh they will miss you so much
Thank you!!! Almost cried yesterday. They've been so sweet. As difficult as it can be, I will miss them too.

OMG!!! I'm actually leaving the kindergarten classroom and starting a new job, but wow! Got this news on my last day of teaching. What a way to end!
-
Thank you everyone! Last day of school was today and I almost cried. Got this card from a student today. "Thank you for showing me to sing Madonna."

Thank you very much
LatinAmericanIdol, thank you for introducing your kids to Madonna music all these years and for incubating a new generation of Voguers.
Like an Alphabet will always be a classic and all the performances that you have done with your little ones have been awesome. Your final one is Fantastico!
Wishing you all the best as you move on to your next path.
Awww, you remembered "Like an Alphabet"! Thank you very much!

So, a few years ago, my kindergarten students performed "Vogue" for their graduation ceremony and thanks to MadonnaNation and enthusiastic M fans, the original video got some nice attention online. I was, and continue to be, so grateful for that. Three years later, we're dusting it off and giving it a masquerade treatment. This performance is a bittersweet one because after 12 years in the kindergarten classroom, the time has come for me leave the classroom and change paths. As a farewell, I thought it would be fitting to end this phase of my career the way it began: with a final performance of “Vogue.” We used the Girlie Show version and completely revamped it for the class of 2015. As these beautiful children vogue their way into 1st grade, I look forward to striking a new pose as well. I hope you enjoy our final, adorable train wreck of a performance!

Lmao what did I just witness? Not sure I recognize most of this choreography . . . and why did it end in the Nazi salute??
(The figure itself is actually quite good though.)
LMAO! Right? It's definitely one of those WTF moments, but I can't stop laughing at this. My fav part of when the body breaks apart from the legs!

So, I was watching random things on YouTube last night and I stumbled upon this so-bad-its-good claymation of Madonna performing "Express Yourself." She's falling apart left and right, and it is hysterical!
-
this is really beautiful!
Thank you! Had another screening today at school and it looks like the kids really seem to "get it." I'm in the process of trying to share it with some education pages (and some Madonna pages). In an ideal world, I'd love for this to be shown in classrooms everywhere. Sneaky way to introduce Madonna to the kiddos ;-)
-
This was so wonderful, you did such a great job, the kids were brilliant... and yes the song is very fitting
Thank you :-) I always thought that if The Giving Tree could sing a song, it'd be "Live to Tell."
-
Beautiful version of a sad and wise story. Always love the effort and vision you have. Plus, introducing children to the wonderful music of Madonna which you always use so wonderfully.
Thank you jazzyjan! The "effort and vision" come from having Madonna in a constant loop in my head. Always a labor of love :-)
-
I love the video!
On a side note, that book always makes me so sad because that boy/man takes EVERYTHING from that tree. :'(
Yeah, it's a sad one :-( The kids had a great time making it though. They're 5, so their understanding of it is very literal at this point. It's my hope that they'll look back at this years from now and see a deeper meaning (and keep loving Madonna, of course).

Thanks! Showing it at our Earth Day event tomorrow. Hoping for a few tears from the parents. Or laughs. I never know how they're going to react.
-
We're back! So, with Earth Day around the corner, we decided to turn "The Giving Tree" into a music video using "Live to Tell." I thought that a song about loss and abandonment would fit well with the themes of the story. Watch the kiddos act and sing their little hearts out as they pull on your heartstrings...
-
A little late to the party but totally love this song now. Didn't care for it when I first heard it, but after the performance, I get it. Can't stop smiling.
-
This song is so full of life and joy! I really love it! My students just wrapped up their art classes and I could help making a little montage using this song...
-
OK, I submitted my question. I kinda plugged some of the Madonna-inspired performances I've done with my kindergarten students and asked her what song of hers she'd like us to perform next. Fingers crossed!

LOOOOOOVE this!!!! Exceptional job! Congrats!!

I remember listening to a LQ snippet of "Frozen" back in February 1998 (I believe there was a Madonna Singapore webpage at the time that was streaming it), and even though the song was hard to make out, I could tell that it was going to be something glorious and beautiful. I just felt a wave of awe and excitement .
-
Any time!
Congratulations on the L.A. Times piece! You're a wonderful teacher.
Thank you :-) It's funny how that one happened. They saw a video from a while back and they contacted me. It just so happened we were working on this one, so they came over watch us film "La Isla Bonita."
-
Fantastic ! Congrats from another teacher using Madonna in his teaching ! ;-)
Thanks! The kiddos need us to show them the light, don't they? ;-)
-
Spreading the Madonnica knowledge is always fun and creating these videos is always rewarding, but the cherry on top of all this was the recognition we received from the Los Angeles Times yesterday...

Fan 'art': Madame X is an art model

So, in preparation for M's arrival in LA this week, I made my own little artwork for the concert. I took her Madame X manifesto and turned in into a "lotería" card. (For those who aren't familiar with Lotería, it's like a Mexican version bingo but with picture cards)...
