The night of/day after was somber. I got emotionally involved with HRC (in 2008 and this year), and the result affected me. I'm better now, but it still stings- but, there also was baggage that she could not overcome, and the electoral method didn't help (the scandals, being female, fact that there hasn't been 12 years of consecutive Democrat president since the 1940s, etc.)
Aside form likely winning the popular vote buy a decent margin when all is said and done,Β Β here's something to ponder. If the Electoral College distributed electoral votes similar to how delegates are awarded in the primaries, the result would look something like the following (I simply took the number of electoral votes in a state and the current percentage of votes each had- no rounding off- I even gave Trump the full extra 1 from Maine):
Clinton: 256.602
Trump: 253.84 -
A number of shows at venues in which she played the last tour have lower numbers this time around.
-
A video in which she interacts with people out on the streets or something, showcasing the universal "Living For Love" sentiment, may have worked well for the song. It's what I would have liked to have seen at the time, anyways.
-
Not quite a year, but close enough.
It's a well-shot video, and it's good for what it is, but it's not among my overall favorite clips.
-
As expected, the album didn't fare well in the Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop poll of 500_+ critics. It ranked in the 400s among albums. Confessions... was her last album to do alright, placing No. 61 in the poll.
-
Mmmmm- with what she's going through, that's probably the case.
She's not the Queen for nothin'- carries on like Her Madgesty that she is.
-
So, probably a little less than four hours until the first show in Mexico City starts?
-
The era was definitely her best overall since, at least, COADF. So, I get what you mean by saying we got our Queen back, even though she never left.
-
Excellent read- I like seeing her give TB some love.
-
I think this may have been mentioned somewhere? Anyhow, the tours and concerts aren't ranked, but she's, M was the only one pictured.

The bottom line:
Great gift for the fans. Not-so-great of a commercial move. The album got decent pre-orders, but they just put the tracks out there and sat on them for a month and a-half before lead-single promotion kicked in (radio and otherwise). And, the tracks (at least not all) should not have been tied to the pre-order. LFL was withheld in the UK; they should have done the same for the USA.
Hopefully they learned from their mistakes and also will keep the next round of new music under much better wraps.
-
cosmic, not an EP, but the six tracks were released as part of the album pre-order- a nice fan gesture, but not a great strategic move, putting the six tracks out there and sitting on them until first-single promotion (radio and otherwise) kicked in. Not that the music would have smashed, but it probably would have performed a bit better under regular circumstances. At least LFL was withheld in the UK.
Chelle- yes, some Santa Baby would be excellent.
-
That's a single-critic list, but still nice.
The album hasn't made all that many year-end lists, so I'm not expecting a great showing in the Village Voice's annual Pazz N Jop poll. For perspective, COADF, which fared better on year-end staff lists than RH, ended up at around No. 61 on the PNJ Poll (with 26 top 10-list appearances from participating voters).
-
Did anyone here vote? I knew nothing of it (though I know RS does reader polls).
Did some voters accidentally vote for the other "Ghost Town"?
-
All I can say is that I LOVED the Queen's response to the negative people. She's been taking the stage much earlier than the last tour, and they run into a snafu and that's how some react. I suppose someone could have come out/said over the system that there were technical difficulties, but ah well.
Hope those attending the show tonight much enjoy themselves.
-
M is not likely to get an Oscar nod for any song that she co-writes (no matter how good it is)- and one she directs? C'mon now.
Will get some Boxscores this week, or will they wait and report all of the rest at once?
-
Would have been nicer if it made its overall best albums list, but...
-
^What did you expect? The Grammys takes commercial success and safeness into major consideration, unless there's sentimental value to a nomination.
-
Why are you constantly referring to acts other than Madonna? (I know there are others that do, too, but you're a bit incessant).
As one female references from Mean Girls, "Why you so obsessed"?
-
The RS albums and singles list are the only two major year-end lists that M has appeaeed on- good for RS to give some love, especially "Ghosttown" (which, incidentally, ranked a few spots lower than BIM on the RS 50 Greatest Madonna Songs list- the year0end, though, probably had more input than the seven writers who do the Madonna list).
On a chart note- "Ghosttown" did crack two (non-dance) U.S. airplay charts (Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40), which no second single had done since the Music album. And it did reach 65 in UK sales. Of course, had it been released when she was younger, like some other singles in recent years, it would have smashed.

For the three shows Madonna did at Wembley Stadium in 1990, the attendance/tickets sold was 225,000. Of course, the ticket prices were just around $30-$35, which meant a gross of nearly $2.6 million.
If she played three shows there today- at her current prices- the total would be astronomical.
On a side note- her three-show stint in Mexico City in 1993 grossed nearly $9 million, with an attendance of 137,234. Both were then-records.
-
Madonna conquered that world with LAP, really. It's usually that album and ROL that get the biggest critical notices.

"Erotica" on the CD is silly- why didn't they just take the version from GHV2?
I don't have any major issues with the DVD quality. I mean, it's like watching old movies- they're not going to be the quality of newer releases, no matter what they do.

Probably discussed somewhere, but... will Nicki Minaj have a new track featuring M on her new album? What she said at the Met Gala didn't make a lot of sense- they have a secret that will be out soon, or something to that effect. Maybe M sings part of '"Secret" on one of her tracks.Β
