It’s almost kind of emotional that she hit #1. Like here she is at 60 years old with an album that may be her least accessible to the general public hitting #1. All without an ounce of support from radio.

    Proud fan moment.

This is so damn true. ^

Radio does not play her new records at all, and have shunned her, pretty much, with exception of adult contemporary.

It's very difficult in general for any artist to get a #1 album, and with Madonna doing this and hitting #1 her 9th time, this late in her career, just shows the amazing fan support she has.

  2. I think the thing that we all have to remember is that for a legendary icon like Madonna, she is incredibly impressive and she is still very much relevant and having huge hit records, later in her career at the "30 year+ in" stage.

To have NINE #1 albums on the Billboard 200 Chart in the US is a feat few artists her peer level can achieve. Only the legendary Barbara Streisand has more in the female category, with 11!

Look at Rihanna with 2 #1 albums, Diana Ross with 1, Mariah Carey with just 4 #1 albums, Whitney Houston amassed 4 #1's (Rest In Peace), Taylor Swift has 5, Jennifer Lopez has 3, Celine Dion 5, and Janet Jackson has a solid 7.

As for Beyonce and Britney Spears, they both have 6.

Madonna can sell branding, music and trends. That's what she has always done extremely well.

I think it's not official yet...

Yes, it is. Billboard has not announced, but that does not come out until Mondays/Tuesdays.

Looks like Bruce Springsteen's sales were ok, but weaker than expected. The Jonas Bros plunged 88% from their opening weekend--a huge, sharp drop.

The sales week ran from Friday, June 14th to Thursday, June 20th. The tallies were confirmed yesterday. 🙂 The Billboard announcement will come early next week for chart week ending Saturday, June 29th, 2019.

Total Madonna snub. I don't get it. It's so hard being a Madonna fan for the last 10 years...

I'm not surprised--Rolling Stone is mostly irrelevant in general today.

Read by a core group of baby boomers and gen x-ers and a tiny amount of millennials who worship Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Prince.

It's an aged magazine with a small amount of subscribers.

YAWN, they need to fold. LOL

I’m so confused right now. What happened to all the predictions that Madame X was going to hit #1 on billboard hot 100 in USA?

It's still debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, for week ending June 29th, 2019.

The official announcement may not come out until tomorrow or this weekend,  but she should be getting her 9th #1 album in the US.

The Hot 100 chart you are referencing only tracks singles/songs, not albums, but I get what you meant. 🙂

  6. Does anyone know if Medellin is hitting #1 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Chart, for week ending June 29, 2019?

It sits at #2 with a bullet for this week....

I think this would be her what, 47th or 48th #1 on that chart? 😄

Jonas Brothers fell sharply around 85% to 50-55k

This is such great news for Madonna! She's gonna get that 9th Number One album, looks like!

She's 2nd overall, for the most #1 albums by a female in the US on Billboard Top 200 Album Chart, with Barbara Streisand having 11 number ones.

For those interested, Madonna's standing is at #5, tied with a few other acts, for those having the most #1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart:

    1 The Beatles: 19

    2 Jay-Z: 14

    3 Bruce Springsteen: 11

    3 Barbara Streisand: 11

    4 Elvis Presley: 10

    5 Garth Brooks: 9

    5 Rolling Stones: 9

    5 Eminem: 9

    5 Madonna: 9* (predicted)

    6 U2: 8

    6 Kanye West: 8

It ain't easy to get a #1 album. Ask Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston or Rihanna's teams.

I've heard Jonas Bros do not have great streaming numbers.

I would expect Jonas Bros week #2 to fall heavily. Boy bands like this are typically front-loaded in week #1, and then collapse heavily going into week #2. I would bet they drop off by 75-80% this second week.

With Bruce having weak sales, I think the chart positions will go like this:

    1 Madonna

    2 Jonas Bros

    3 Bruce Springsteen

Madonna should get her 9th number one album on the Billboard 200 chart. 🙂🙏

  9. I totally agree with this! Madame X is the incredible standout album of this decade, for Madonna.

In thinking about the overall ranking of her albums, and how Madame X lines up with those, for me, it's like this:

    14 MDNA

    13 Bedtime Stories

    12 Rebel Heart

    11 Madonna

    10 Hard Candy

    9  Erotica

    8  American Life

    7  Music

    6  Madame X

    5 True Blue

    4 Like a Virgin

    3 Like a Prayer

    2 Confessions on a Dancefloor

    1 Ray of Light

Madame X may go up after a few more months. It gets better each spin. What a record! Wow.

  10. To ya'll talking about "what backlash will this create?" well, plenty.

I mean that's what Madonna does. All the way from Like a Virgin (song, video, MTV performance, to Papa Don't Preach video, to Like a Prayer (video, pepsi and pope backlash), Justify My Love video being pulled, Erotica and Sex book *shock*, the Evita naysayers, Human Nature backlash, American Life shade and backlash, and many more.

Madonna does this well. She's not only a master self marketer, but a genius at music creation, production and creating topics that create trends/people to follow her.

  11. Hmm, this is great.

    4. MDNA: Was a bit "cold" and "darker" energy for me with this album. I loved "Love Spent," "Superstar," "Gang Bang," and "Give Me All Your Lovin" was decent. Overall, the songs were the weakest grouping out of any album she has done, it ranks dead last in my book. But I still love a lot of it.

    3. Rebel Heart: Needed to be about 12 songs max. There were a lot of "filler" songs in my opinion here. There are amazing songs I love on here though, with that being said: "Rebel Heart," "Body Shop," "Heartbreak City," "Devil Pray," "Joanne of Arc," and "Ghosttown" were incredible.

    2. Hard Candy: Great content on this album and an amazing turn for Madonna with the hip-hop flavor. Love "4 Minutes," "Heartbeat," and "Beat Goes On" should've been a single! Really good album overall.

    1. Madame X: This album really surprised me. I was expecting MDNA caliber. But whoa, was I wrong! There are 2 songs that I don't love (Bitch I'm Loca and Faz Gostoso) but every other one has layers upon layers of high production quality, cinematic sound, lush vocals and musical instruments and high quality writing. Amazing album really. Good thing is, it will get better over time!

  12. Choose one of the two :

    Medellin/Living For Love

    Dark Ballet/Devil Pray

    God Control/Ghosttown

    Future/Unapologetic Bitch

    Batuka/Illuminati

Killers Who Are Partying/Bitch I'm Madonna

    Crave/Hold Tight

    Crazy/Joan Of Arc

    Come Alive/Iconic

    Extreme Occident/Heartbreak City

    Faz Gostoso/Body Shop

    Bitch I'm Loca/Holy Water

    I Don't Search I Find/Inside Out

Looking For Mercy/Wash All Over Me

    I Rise/Best Night

    Funana/Veni Vidi Vici

Back That Up To The Beat/S.E.X

    Ciao Bella/Messiah

    Soltera/Rebel Heart

    Madame X - 11, Rebel Heart - 8

I agree that this song is a huge artistic accomplishment for Madonna. She combined so many things she does well into one song, it's quite a feat.

I personally love the clenched teeth at the beginning of the song, it's a really fresh and different vocal expression for her. It fits perfectly with what she's singing about - she's actually saying that she understands why people get a gun and why people give up. It's very sobering and I love how her anger and sadness sound like they're seeping out of her mouth, very affecting. I also love that she says "it makes me laugh" twice when referring to leaders who say they're trying to help.

I think the highlight of the song for me is after she sings "a new democracy" and whispers a repeat of the first verse. We start to hear the choir again from the first part of the song and the way the rhythm interplays with the strong disco beat is utterly fantastic. I think this will be one of those songs with strong replay value.

yeah, the part at the beginning is the most powerful set up for the song. It makes perfect sense--she's incredibly angry and it works beautifully. It's an incredible song--one of the best of her entire career.

Just stunning--can't wait to hear it live. 🙂

  14. My least favorite ones:

    1. Bitch I'm Loca: Too much loudness and not enough flow for my taste. I skip this one every time.

    2. Faz Gostoso: Maybe I'll warm up to this one, but I guess it's a language thing too. It sounds a bit like a Jennifer Lopez song to me LOL

    3. Future: Monotonous...I was never a fan of this one really. It's alright, but I can take it or leave it.

    The best ones:

    1. God Control: Brilliant song. Layers upon layers. It gets better every listen. She created an incredible story here.

    2. I Don't Search I Find. A hook filled dance classic. Love the 70s disco sound.

    3. Crave. Such a hook filled, sing along, chill song. A classic Madonna song which immediately sounds like a hit

    4. Batuka. An unusual song filled with many layers, again. It's catchy af and I am in love with the violin ending. WOW

    5. Come Alive: This song gets better each listen. A real dance track.

The album is getting better overall, each time I hear it.

Im afraid Jonas Brothers will have more streams than Madame X and higher total equivalent album units than Madame X.

We don't want Jonas Brothers hinder Madame X from becoming Madonna's 9th no 1 album on Billboard 200 albums chart, do we?

But was Jonas Brothers bundled for their debut week ? They had a VERY STRONG 350k debut, and if that includes bundles, my guess is they will drop from this high number WAY down to the 70-80k mark for week 2. If it didn't include bundles, it still may drop enough to allow Madonna to get a #1.

I don't think Bruce Springsteen is going to be as competitive for the #1 slot as we all originally thought.

Seems to be a battle for #1 between Madonna and Jonas Brother's 2nd week @ the top.

  16. My top 5:

5 Batuka - such a layered song--really growing on me. Wow

4 Killers Who Are Partying - powerful and mesmerizing

3 Crave-so damn catchy, incredible song

    2 I Don't Search I Find-amazing dance tune-chorus flows.

1 God Control-layered, complex, powerful, beautiful and danceable af! What a song. One of her best album tracks ever.
