It’s been a while since I last posted. With a lot going on personally and collectively, I was glad to have my unique rapport with Madame X the way I did with Madonna albums when I was a child and teenager.

Opinions are what make this forum function. Without discussion, which includes differing opinions, there is no passion. Without passion there is no longer a measurable fan base. I sense there has been a surging reluctance to contribute by many members since the release of the Madame X album because anything short of syncophantry is often shot down. Personally, I feel it’s almost impossible in the modern era to not be affected by the defeatism of the measure of relevance of any musical release by its chart performance, validation by the media and streaming presence. While some are able to accept that Madonna is far from her commercial peaks of yore, and are therefore able to contextualize the quality of her work outside of its mass cultural validity, others cannot relate to music without it forming the Zeitgeist. I think it’s important to recognize this within the fan base because it is a real phenomenon that we have had to adapt to her dwindling mainstream appeal after a very long imperial phase. It’s been a bittersweet chapter in Madonna’s career in my opinion. Almost nobody is able to harness cross-generational interest in this era of the minute attention span, and she gave it a really good shot. When something isn’t embraced by the masses, it’s invalidating for the fan...particularly in Madonna’s case because she has been expected to prove herself at every turn for 36 years, and there’s almost a collective gleefulness in being able to dismiss her value due to being less commercially relevant.

I find this album mostly cohesive (I define cohesive in this case as the vast majority of songs that make up the collective album forming a common flow of style, production techniques, and quality), but it has flaws too. This doesn’t prevent me from enjoying it, but I’ll admit my enthusiasm for it was tempered by the sometimes schizophrenic forum dialog (Eurovision was a nightmarish kickoff, and I’m not referring to her vocals) in the first month following its release, and so I personally stepped away. Musically, I find Madame X to be quietly triumphant. There are some beautiful melodies, and the warm subtlety of many of the songs is what gives an overall richness to the album experience. That said, paradoxically, and at the risk of enticing a mob mentality clapback, a considerable part of what I do not enjoy as much about Madame X is Madonna’s voice. There are certainly magnificent moments; Looking For Mercy, Crazy, Come Alive, Extreme Occident, and Killers are all glorious Madonna vocal classics for me. However, scattered throughout are moments when I find it to sound weak and limited, poorly produced, and more often diminished by bells and whistles that I don’t find to showcase her strengths. Again, I understand this is totally subjective, and also somewhat unfair considering that 99% of today’s pop is pitch corrected and heavily filtered. Unfortunately I do think some fans and casual listeners have interpreted the vocal manipulations as a reinforcement of the notion that Madonna’s voice itself has deteriorated substantially, and that it requires this type of distortion. This is just an opinion, and I respect anyone else’s if it is coming from a constructive place. I’m fully aware that Madonna has defended her artistic license to use her voice as a malleable instrument, and I am in total agreement with that, but that doesn’t negate the way something is received by the individual ear. I prefer when her voice sounds intimate and accessible, but preferences are just like opinions and assholes. We all have them.

Welcome back and so well said on everything. Actually, I am loving everyone's thoughts in this thread. I love the passion in this fan base and even when we disagree. I look at Madame X now as one of Madonna's best kept secrets. In it's future, it's going to be much like American Life in the way that it's unappreciated. But one thing I love is that Madonna did it her way with both albums and she's doesn't "give a....".

She rightly lost her job but the public naming and shaming and press reports about it are dreadful. Let her get help in private and deal with the consequences privately.  She has been punished for it and does not need public shaming on top of that. Publicly humiliating her worldwide is a nasty unnecessary thing to do.

I agree Jazz. I don't like when it's done on the internet in any setting either as stoning and shaming can lead to suicide or pushing someone over the edge. And really....how can people do that when we're all flawed in some way? Having love and compassion for everyone is key.  I hope she gets help and will be alright.

Once again, she really had her ear to the ground. The gun control movement has reached a possible tipping point. People are over gun mania here in the US. When you watch the vid for God Control and you see Madame X's frustration that is playing out now. MTV could have had a cultural moment with it winning Video of the Year but no.

So well said. There is not one person on either side of the fence who doesn't think something more needs to happen to stop this madness. 😔

This video is my most played from this era. Probably because it has no interruptions and flows so well with the song!

I know what you mean. I think my plays have surpassed Medellin's. I love the scenery, the colors, her dancing, her hair, the Batukadeiras and just everything.

Thank u dear.  sharing actual convos I had with people about this w my m fam. It just seems like people like to skip around the elephants in the rooms. If nothing changes it’s time to look at what is happening from a different POV. The more the better.

This!!!! Well said on everything! Adding: I think everyone in this topic has it figured out in many ways for things that could seriously help this issue, so why can't our leaders do so? 🤦‍♀️😑

U do have a point. Y is it so common in USA? I can only think that we prioritize media and fame  differently.  Different values.

before the net it was always the entertainment industry. I mean there’s def room for reform in those areas too.

As far as crime in the USA, it’s always been pretty violent. I found vintage articles with the headline “is America getting more violent?” In each decade I looked into.

I think when u revolve life around superficial things this cray shit happens.

In the 70s it was serial killers, 90s it was fatal attractions, 10s it’s mass shootings. For example. And romanticizing these things won’t help I don’t think.

This need to be famous to feel loved creates intense delusion and isolation,  and it’s a priority in USA to be famous.

Couldn't agree more again! So very true on everything you wrote. It's a harder and colder society. Also, kids have to raise themselves. They aren't taught about what to do when the worst happens. They aren't taught what to do when they get challenged, what to do when they lose, and/or are bullied. Then there are the alcohol and drug issues in this society and how everything is laced with THC or something to get you addicted quickly. They get angry when they are doing these things. They hallucinate. They can't think right. They just know they are angry in that state and want to make someone else pay. It's endless. It's sad.

    Criminals Don’t Care.

Gun Laws do need to be stricter. But this is a HUGE, moral issue before it is a gun issue. Let's say, guns are taken away from people (which, I don't agree with. If you are responsible to own a car, a house, you can own a gun. However I feel that people Do need to go through tests and certifications to own, just like you would need to take a test to drive, to adopt, etc) You still have the criminals who will own guns. And Those who don't, will find a different weapon to use.

We live in a society that will give the details of the shooter over the details/backstories of the victims to honor them. We make movies romanticizing serial killers.  I'm not sure how that helps, aside from letting someone with a bunch of rage know they will be famous if they act on their rage against random people instead of, being a responsible citizen. We live in a society where, people are not feeling loved, are not being loved, and are creating delusional stories in their heads giving them the courage to carry out what they do. You are not a sane person to carry out these things. And to be honest, it probably has a lot to do with social media.

I just can't believe how out of context things can be taken, to no end on the internet. such a waste.  People will get mad over nothing, get all social justice warriory over nothing. Sometimes, I find myself getting worked up, over assumptions and I"m like....oh I'm being just like everyone else on the net. yuck.

I can't imagine being a teen this day and age.

For me this is all falling back to morality. Lack of respect for living things. Lack of faith. Boundaries. Family. Community. Having everything at your fingertips, unearned. I do think that just as you need to pass certain things to own a house, a car, a gun, and adopt, you need to pass certain qualifications to have access to the internet. Trust you me, the internet, is responsible for alot of  thoughtless, emotional impulsivity.

I agree on everything you wrote. It's a problem caused by many issues not just one. What's sad is both parties agree on so many things that would help (from stricter gun laws and helping the mentally ill)and yet, it's all talk and mouth after every shooting and nothing gets done. Also there are existing laws now that aren't enforced. You really do have to wonder how much the NRA controls and owns everyone from both parties and the entire system. It's just sad. 😑😪

As for the actual topic, I would say the forums were quite peaceful and fun until this thread was posted.  I hope me saying that won't ruffle any feathers for saying so, but it's true.  I don't understand the need to fight over this?

I agree. I've been having a lot of fun. It's not a morgue. There are a lot of cool and faithful members here and it's been fun getting to know everyone. The forum may have slowed a little but anything abnormal at this period after a release. As soon as she releases another video or does more promo for the tour, etc, it will pick up.

What do you guys think of the Rebel Heart tour DVD? Why is there no Take A Bow? ☺☺

Better yet, are we ever going to get a DVD/Blue Ray of the Reinvention tour? lol

All good things must come to an end!  I say that in tongue and cheek, but it's pretty true especially these days. This was a good idea and as I stated earlier, would love to see a 24/7 radio station spread world-wide.  Our society deserves a few good things, rather the constant fighting and the fact that negativity tends to gain more attention than anything positive.

    +1!!! ✨🙏✨💫
