There's a low-key element to the song that reminds of when 'Secret' kicked-off the Bedtime Stories era.
-
-
The year/era she went from extremely famous and successful to being cultural. It was only magnified a year later with Vogue and the Blonde Ambition Tour.
-
Like A Prayer is her masterpiece. ROL comes close, but ultimately doesn't surpass the former.

For years I thought Vogue (and Like A Virgin) were going to be her definitive song to the general public. However, I think Like A Prayer has eclipsed both somewhat in recent years.
But it just goes to show what an amazing catalog this woman has. Unbeatable.

As for the debut of the video, I hope Interscope is cleaver about it. Perhaps have the song featured on a primetime series hit like Scandal and then the video premiere directly after the show ends? More exposure for the song and video that way.

but TUTBMP was from Erotica sessions
It was, but thematically, it doesn't fit in with that era.
I often think of it as the bookend to her fist era of dominance. On paper, one would say that would be The Immaculate Collection, but for me, TUTBMP is the bookend to the first chapter, as least thematically. Erotica was the beginning of the next chapter, and probably "90's Madonna" for me.

David Fincher or Mark Romanek please! Michael Haussman would also be a wonderful surprise, as I do think Take A Bow was such a visually compelling video for her.
Granted, I wasn't fond of what Fincher did for Timberlake or what Romaneck did for Swift, but I'll hope they can bring more creativity to the table as they did in the past for M if she were to reunite with them again.

ALOTO/TUTBMP was the last vestige of Madonna's "golden/imperial era." Erotica would move her into new territory and the untouchable pop star she had been up to that point. In a way, TUTBMP is sort of like saying goodbye to the Madonna of the 80's and very early 90's.

Cher loves to say how she was the first to dress outrageous or how she paved the way for people like M (which is frankly bullshit). The woman has been a puppet for others (first Sonny Bono and then David Geffen namely, and of course Bob Mackie for fashion) for a good chunk of her career. While she may have been "outrageous" to a degree, there was never any artistic prowess or statement being made behind it.
I know Madonna always gets torn to shreds for "wanting to be relevant." But it's always been much worse with Cher, she just doesn't get the same flack because no one holds her artistry (outside of maybe acting) to any high standards. She's a big joke, but that's why many of us like her and will let it pass.
-
I do think Cher has been a bit envious of Madonna's artistry and success over the years even if she'll never admit it in public.
But she's indeed harmless, and has no grounds to bash Madonna on any level - as, outside of her acting career, she'll never be close to M's level of success, relevance, or musical artistry. She's just Cher for goodness sake.

Has the director been announced yet?

Maybe he'll remix one of the singles from Rebel Heart.

Miley posted those pics first to her instagram page, M simply re-posted them with her comments.
Whatever the case, M seems fond of her for whatever reason...

I don't see her ever giving him the time of day again. She's known for cutting off folks who publicly shade her in some way, and I wouldn't be surprised if the two were no longer on speaking terms.
Truth be told, she should have never worked with him again after ROL. His contributions to the Music album were lackluster, and his MDNA material was what it was...
You'd never hear someone like Pat Leonard say or do something like this. I think he once said he didn't agree with the direction she went in with the Erotica album, but he was very classy about and was classy about only having songwriting and not hands-on producing activity on ROL.

The Erotica font.

Didn't she once say she wrote Cherish about Sean during a rare moment of happiness in their marriage that she knew wouldn't last?
I mean, with that sort of weird background, I guess I can see why she has no positive feelings for it, even if she and Sean are now friends again.

The 1989 British and American covers are LIFE. The best of Brunettedonna.

Outside of that comment about killing her daughter if she acted like Madonna, Whitney has always had great things to say about M. She was much nicer and accepting of Madonna's place in pop culture than the likes of Janet and Mariah.
I hope this movie doesn't try to paint Madonna as some type of enemy/bitch. I don't think that was ever the extent of their relationship. I remember reading that when Whitney had a miscarriage in the mid 90's, Madonna was one of the first people to send her flowers/condolences. Apparently, the two also had a warm embrace at a Prince concert in the 90's as well.
-
Eww.
I don't understand why they needed to bring Madonna into this mess. It's not like Whitney and M had a long personal relationship. Maybe because Whitney was marketed as the anti-Madonna in the 80's?
-
In many ways, this movie and TUTBMP was the end cap to the first chapter of Madonna's career. Erotica, which came a few months later, would usher in a new chapter and a new career direction for her.
Great popcorn flick though, and I always have to watch whenever a random cable channel is airing it. M showed a lot of her natural charisma in this film, something she's had trouble doing in a many of her film roles.

Both have become gentrified and frankly somewhat sterile.
But to Madonna, anything is probably better than living permanently in Los Angeles again. She spent a lot of time there too, but somehow never developed an affinity for it.

Paula didn't age well, this pic is taken from her Facebook profile:

On the topic of the Madonna Weekends MTV US used to do - I think this was the last one leading up to the release of ROL. MTV US had long stopped being a music network by then, so this was rare even back then.
