  1. It's been a while since Madonna's shown her technical-choreography skills. Living for Love at the Grammys and Brits were both amazing but had pretty basic choreography/imagery at its core.

Something like this will require precision, specific queues and real training to pull off interacting/being in sync with the 'hologram' graphics around her. Vogue at the VMAs, the Superbowl and Gang Bang (for instance) were all clearly meticulously choreographed to perfection with little room for error. Can't wait to see if this will be another one of those... She's absolutely capable.

Makes me wonder what she has in store for the Eurovision as its way bigger than the BBMAs

Kylie has always had a more generic appeal. The UK has always loved her because she is banal. The reason her last album (which was shit IMO) was deemed a HIT is that they relied on scoring minor goals, chart and radio wise,  and then tried to hype the whole sleeper hit vibe - even though it wasnt really true.

I actually believe you cannot  contrive a Madonna marketing campaign anymore. She polarises people too much. Ultimately she just needs to do what she wants to do, and it ill either hit or it wont. But at least she remains true to herself. She doesnt need a fake hit off the back of it. She has enough already to help her sleep safe.

Kylie has always played it safe which does play a part in the warm reception she received but she wasn't even on the radar for years until her most recent album.

My comparison is mostly about Kylies album being a departure from the predictable 'chasing chart hits' concept in the same way I expect Madonna's disco track will be (disco isn't in) and that re-engaging with a neglected demographic and avoiding the 'jumping on trends' narrative (paired with an effective strategy behind it) may well result in a single with radio play,  positive attention and ultimately sales and exposure for the album. (and that Kylie's team did a good job of it)

Most importantly, with the exposure of the Eurovision, she will have attention for whatever new single she performs and won't need to employ a current sound or 'relevant' artist to gain traction (which already harms the reception of any Madonna single upon arrival). I think these factors tie in well if the next single is the disco track.

I agree that Madonna is too polarising to have a completely solid strategy for a commercial peak in 2019 but I believe the above is a realistic option.

    KYLIE.jpg

Pretty sure that was released after the album which changes everything but I'm not here to defend Kylie either way.

Obviously Madonna will get more views regardless of charts/sales. She's global and she's... Madonna.

The point remains though that Kylie had a resurgence of support, positive media attention and therefore exposure in the UK which led to a successful era for her standard - all of which is thanks to a solid marketing strategy and effective management. Madonna could do with the same, that's all.

Nobody even knew she had an album out outside the UK. They worked that one like a whore cuz they knew it's the only place she had a shot. I don't c how this applies 2 Madonna...

But still, I'd say it's better for an era to be a big deal in one country than being a 'passable success' worldwide.

Madonna is a truly global act unlike Kylie so if they did apply a similar strategy to Madonna I'm sure it'll affect sales beyond just the UK

And yes, Madonna is in her own league in most aspects but it doesn't make her untouchable or incomparable to Kylie. The success of Kylie's album is about more than just sales - she actually had great press and the general public were engaged and supportive after she had been ignored for quite a while.

Kylie's success was a result of effective marketing/management/PR etc. Stuff that even the almighty god of music herself needs.

@systemvalues I haven't, I'm just optimistic about the vibe from the couple of clips she's shared :confessions:

I don’t think Medellín is an attempt at a hit. I still think it’s truly her and the fact that she and Mirwais did the core proves it. But I agree with all that u say apart from that. If she simply does a single on par of Hung Up she ll be more likely to have a hit than with Medellín - at least in Europe and smth like this would really benefit from her performing on Eurovision.

I meant that more in the sense of the general public perception of it. Many will hear the reggaeton influence / Maluma and make an instant judgment, all based on the surface and usually without even hearing the full song. The same process of judgment is likely done by radio/playlist curators too.

A disco single will allow for a different narrative of Madonna to emerge. No one will be able to accuse her of jumping on trends and she'll have the exposure from the Eurovision (rather than from a feature or hype, both of which lead to criticism anyway)... It's literally the recipe for a hit.

"The disco track" doesnt have any features or duets right? Will a solo Madonna track generate radio play and streams better? Right now Medellin is getting huge streaming every night from the Latin countries..

It definitely won't be the Quavo and Swae Lee tracks and we know the Anitta feature, so it must be a solo one

The disco track will be tapping into a market she hasn't engaged with since Confessions, which is generally considered her last commercial peak. So it'll be playing on the nostalgia too which gives radio an incentive to pay attention to it.

And not just because its disco, but because the more recent singles with major exposure (Living for Love, Bitch I'm Madonna, Medellin) were musically targeted towards a younger demographic and isolated casual fans in the process. Radio doesn't need to play a new Madonna song if the same sound is being done by someone 30 years younger and more mediocre 'relevant'. Sometimes radio play is just based on the product itself and something like the disco track will be far more palatable from 'Madonna' than a blatant attempt at a hit (sorry Medellin)

Look at Kylie's success with her last album/era. Some genuine success is entirely possible with the right music, promotion and good PR.

  7. I think at least one of the 4 pre-release tracks will be the official second single with a legitimate campaign. There's no way Madame X will be released on the back of Medellin, the only real single released 2 months prior. It also makes sense with the information we heard about two almost-simultaneous single releases to appeal to different markets.

I'm personally quite happy for her to move on from Medellin after the BBMAs performance. The plan they have (pre-release tracks) seems to be more about creating a buzz and exposure for the album rather than chasing a good chart position for the lead single. With Medellin, the Quavo feature and the disco track - she's targetting 3 vastly different demographics already.

Obviously it's just assumptions but I think the disco track will be her chance at a big hit. I hope she doesn't waste the Eurovision exposure on Medellin (as much as I love it)

  8. It's excellent for what it is.

A collaboration with Maluma was never going to be the Like a Prayer / Vogue / Hung Up kind of excellent. The whole purpose of it is an attempt at getting a hit lead single for the album.

Turns out we got a beautiful, melodic, chill song that will likely be the first single since 4 Minutes that will really stand out and have its own identity from her 2010s releases.

I also think a lot of people are paying too much attention to the reggaeton vibe and that it has Maluma on it. The lyrics are impeccable and could easily be on Ray of Light, whilst having classic Madonna hooks/moments (1, 2 cha cha cha / Slow down papi)

I think the rest of the album will be significantly better than this but I LOVE Medellín for what it is! (Remember it wasn't even in the first 5 tracks of the original tracklisting, where the biggest impact songs usually are)

  9. I understand why the cover is simplistic. She's doing many characters and looks for the visuals and the whole concept is that Madame X signifies all of them, so she can't exactly pick one character to represent the whole project.

It looks modern, on-trend and seems like it fits the sound of teaser clips. I think the colour scheme and general direction of this artwork will actually help its success. The big colourful/sparkly/camp approach is offputting to most (especially the streaming demographic)

I think the wording is deliberately off-centre and I like it. It makes you pay it attention and makes up for the simplicity of the image.

  10. If the rumors are true that the album is out in June, then I don't imagine Beyonce or Taylor will be a threat.

I doubt Beyonce's documentary alone will make much of a dent in the charts and whatever Taylor is counting down to will be out long before Madonna does her major promotion = Eurovision.

We don't even know how strong Madonnas promo will be - the fact that she's utilizing Instagram and Spotify shows that they're using new strategies and putting in the effort before any music has even been heard. There's still every chance for a hit era.

  11. I don't understand why people are clicking back on this thread only to tell people to shut up and stop thinking of theories

Speculating and sharing ideas is the only thing to do before anything is announced or confirmed. She's literally teasing stuff.. what do you expect a forum to do?

Why are you here if not to read what other M fans are saying? If you only want official news, I suggest logging out

  12. My current prediction is that the X is to do with that Lisbon/Fado stuff.

The Human Nature/Like a Virgin footage means it likely has nothing to do with the actual album and therefore may be a standalone project... and it makes sense to release it before the album rather than after, once the hype is over. Plus, she's put out teasers for that whilst being relatively silent about the album.

The LX title makes also makes sense specifically for this project (60 / Lisbon) since they have footage from her 60th birthday celebrations. If it's a documentary I'm certain that footage will be in it.

I think the album is indeed called Magic and is separate to what she is teasing right now.

I'm ready for Madonna tarot card merch🤣

It would be a pretty cool concept to have each tarot card symbolizing a song/video, all tying into the visual album. Could even be like Black Mirrors' Bandersnatch where you get a 'reading' and select a card = video to watch

  14. It makes sense for it to be 'LX'. I wasn't even aware of its link to Lisbon so the fact that it references that AND her age... I'm sold

There'll be 9 new posts for 9 more days if this is a countdown, which would be crazy.

There's no way it's about MDNA X Moschino or any collaboration because neither of those things end in X

I reckon she'll post another 9 tomorrow including the L

  15. The only bad thing about all the filming she's doing is that (if it's a visual album) everything needs to be finished before the whole project drops - and we don't even know how far in she is. I suppose the rumors of the campaign being centered around May must be true.

Unless she plans to release the lead single separately before the album/visual. (In which case there could be a link to the Apple thing on the 25th)

2? There are rumors of a bunch of videos:

LA theater video after the Oscars

    LA video with Maluma

    This week's Comporta video

    January's Morocco video

India's video at the end of the month

And that's not counting the Lisbon blood moon video that it seems to be for something else!

And the Instagram story where she sings "...Another long day in the studio, make a record and a video" almost 1 month ago

(Edit: Unless that's the LA video with Maluma?)

  17. I'm personally quite optimistic about the potential sounds of the album

I love the fado version of LAV and the Human Nature clip sounded great too. I'm also not so opposed to the Maluma/Anitta collaborations as no matter how good or bad Madonna's collaborations have turned out, it's clear that she had creative control and didn't simply provide vocals for a random song.

The main problem many of us have is that Maluma and Anitta don't actually make good music... but we all know Madonna wants them for marketability/exposure and certainly not their musical ability. I assume the collaboration will be an exchange of exposure from them and substance/quality from Madonna (I hope)

With Mirwais and a potential disco theme included, this could be my favorite era yet!
