  1. I doubt the Miami crowd disappointed!

From what I can tell Rachelle, the crowd that stayed loved it, many just complained she was so late. People allegedly received full refunds at the box office prior to the show starting at 11.24pm which means M may have been in breach of the terms and conditions of the ticket - eg: she exceeded the reasonable expectation of a start time that is advertised on the ticket per the license issued to ticketing companies and concert promoters in Florida

  2. I heard a number of people left around the second section - before the speech. I'm in Australia and not seeing the show but can understand why casual fans would leave at that point - dark themes, unfamiliar songs and it would have been after midnight at that point and if you've got work the next day or kids with a babysitter, they may have had no choice.

I hope M said something in the speech because 3.5 hours is too long to wait

  3. Next week, November 19 to be exact, marks the 19th anniversary of the first show of M's one and only Australian tour ever, I'm getting drunk with some mates on 24 November (Brisbane show anniversary) and watching it on DVD. If you had said to me the one night I saw her as a teenage school kid that I would not see her for at least another 20 years, I would have smacked you in the mouth lol such is life

  4. I began dating my partner in June who loves Madonna and has all her albums even Hard Candy and American Life and I had Turn Up The Radio on in the car and he said "Is that Madonna?" and I said yeah it's off MDNA and he said "what's that?" Now he has the album but seriously missed it.

Here in Australia, the album was promoted for one week with 15 second TV commercials and street posters. That's all. It debuted #1 and then out of the top 40 albums 2 weeks later. THat's right 3 weeks on the chart

The only other promo was that she had let her Australian fans down....again. Even the apology video got no attenion

  5. That's because GMAYL was a b-side track at best - it was a weak song to comeback with after such a long absence and TUTR would have been a massive hit as a lead single.

It's interesting that M is only performing a heavily edited and remixed version of GMAYL on tour

  6. I just walked in my door, the show was amazing! My first time seeing M live or seeing her in person period, and the feeling I got when I saw her silhouette in the confessions booth was sooooo crazy! I swear this scent of a woman's perfume filled my nostrils as soon as she appeared, it was the weirdest thing, like all my senses were sharpened or something..And then when she jumped backwards into the dancers' arms during GGW I nearly fainted. :dramatic: The speech tonight seemed longer than ever but was sincere, although there were numerous sneers from disgruntled husbands who had apparently been dragged to the show by their wives. Maybe 20 or so people left after Gang Bang..M missed her cue during Masterpiece but they all pulled it together nicely. And the pants came all the way off during Human Nature, the tits and the ASS are 100x better in real life! And her VOICE sounded incredible, there were almost no instances of crow vox..I feel like this is just a gigantic word vomit mess but I'm just trying to get everything down while it's still fresh in my mind.

Seriously? 20 people waited hours until 10.45pm and walked out after the 3rd song?

  7. It is a unique situation. I was a young wannabee in 1984/1985 ( yes, that was once the name of young girls who dressed like Madonna ) and remember how incredibly popular she was. She was truly a megastar to rival anyone. That lasted for years and years. Now, she is still a superstar but unfortunately her new music is never played on the radio and she is somewhat looked upon as a superstar from the past. I don't see her that way but am afraid that a lot do now. I agree with San, CMJ and Carta that if she was to tour here, everything would change. People were so excited to see Prince this year and Madonna has always been more popular than Prince in Australia, even though he was also huge. I love Prince as well. Think he is incredible.

I also agree with Matt Matt. Personally, I think a greatest hit tour for Australia would be epic. I would love the MDNA tour as I love the CD and have watched the concert through youtube. But a lot of the more casual fans so to speak, would be dying to see the greatest hits. I think she still has a huge Australian fanbase but so many fans have felt left out and ignored due to her not touring here. I am sure they would all go and get tickets to her concerts if she toured here again. Anyway, let's all keep our fingers crossed. I would love to see her live again. The Girlie show was one of the highlights of my life even though I did not have a great seat and view. Still, the atmosphere was electric.

I think she could save her legacy in Australia by touring. You're right, she is seen as a superstar from the past here and that's because the game has changed and it's all about touring over album sales and Madonna does not tour Australia and her promises and subsequent apologies are costing her fans each time, the money I would have spent on the MDNA tour here has been spent on Big Day Out, Pink, a new personal trainer, a second gym membership and over $3000 spent on eBay since June on M memorabillia to compensate myself for missing yet another tour. For business reasons I can't see the MDNAtour overseas, I have the money, just can't get the time off to fly overseas and back. If Guy and M had been upfront before June, I would have seen the show in London, such is life. I won't be let down again so it's safer to assume she's never touring here and I'll be better prepared next time.

The good side effect for me as a collector in Australia is I have limited competition on ebay.com.au as some sellers will only ship within Australia and I've scored some amazing stuff since it leaked the Australian leg was cancelled

  8. Had the tour come to Australia, it would have been a huge success and very well received. While people would have complained about the lack of classics, it's such a major spectacle that people would have been impressed. US audiences only know "Give Me All Your Lovin'" from the album, yet the tour has been a major success there and very well received. It would have been the same here.

As for MDNA in Australia, nothing can alter the fact that it was a #1 album here. It achieved something that many Madonna albums haven't been able to do - it was the highest selling album in the country for a week. While peaks aren't everything (LAP peaked at #4!), a #1 is still a big deal (ARIA has a special ceremony and award to honour Australian artists who reach #1, even if they plummet out of the Top 50 the next week!). It's not as though we're talking about something like "Charmbracelet" by Mariah Carey (#42) or Janet's "20 Y.O" (#55) or Whitney's "Just Whitney" (did not chart) or even "My Love Is Your Love" (#42, even though it was a big seller worldwide). We're talking about a #1 album.

Madonna still appears regularly in the women's magazines (according to my mum, who tells me every time she sees something about her :)), and my students are always telling me about the latest Madonna controversy that they've heard about on TV/online/on the radio, so there's still an awareness of her work. One student recently asked me what I thought about Madonna "taking her clothes off" on stage, since they'd heard about the controversy surrounding MDNA, and another asked me if I thought she was being insensitive by using guns on stage, given the recent tragedy in the US. Another told me all about how Madonna was "booed in Paris because she didn't perform for long enough". We're talking about 16 year olds here....

As for radio, I hear her regularly on 97.3FM. It's the only station that actually plays a proper mix of Top 40 music from the 80s, 90s, 00s and today (e.g. they're more than happy to play "Some Nights" by fun, followed by "Express Yourself", followed by "Try", followed by "Sexy Back", followed by "Beauty and a Beat", followed by "I'll Be Missing You" etc. etc.).

Carta we are going to have to agree to disagree - MDNA was a flop in Australia - the copies it sold in it's 3 weeks in the top 30 were to legacy fans and casual fans - there was no interest from the general public. By mentioning 97.3, you are highlighting what I said, M is restricted to classic radio now, the Nova network does not play M anymore and they even backed American Life. Gossip articles are not a demonstration of polularity and if you have students, my guess is you mention Madonna at times so they pick up stuff online in forums or on social media.

And remember, people in the USA have had every tour - the MDNA tour was promoted by Live Nation as a return to Australia after nearly 20 years - that's nearly 20 years of hits that have never been performed. Australian audiences would be expecting the hits the worldwide fanbase is sick of - eg. Music, Ray Of Light etc. I am huge fan and collector and I've never even seen Like A Prayer or Into The Groove live - that's how isolated we have been.

  9. MDNA is the biggest flop of M's career in Australia - 3 weeks in the Top 40, even at a time when Live Nation announced she would be touring for the first time in nearly 20 years, Then the tour is canned before tickets went on sale and M's name is mud then nothing. The youtube video was 2 months too late and barely got attention. M rarely gets a mention in Australia and unless it's on classic radio or in stores or on Music Max, does not get heard much.

If she ever does tour Australia, she will be torn to bits by casual fans and the media if it isn't basically a greatest hits tour. I really think M negatively impacted her casual Aussie fan base by letting them down one time too many and Confessions was the final well received album of Madonna as a "current artist". Any future new albums will continue the decline in Australia as she has truly isolated her audience. Her classics and compliation albums will always sell but any new material will go without notice like MDNA - a sudden burst from her hardcore fans with a few casuals and then out of the charts.

If the MDNA tour came to Australia, no matter how great the show is, most of the audience wouldn't know any MDNA tracks - there are no hit singles from it in Australia - or Revolver or Celebration or Candy Shop etc only the usual hits LAP, EY, Vogue, OYH, LAV would go down well so it may not be such a bad thing. I would have loved to have seen the show ah well

Australia isn't angry with M, she just isn't on the radar anymore. This could change if she tours sometime

  10. Matt. I think she ll go in the second leg. ;)

My sources say no second leg and if there was, like last time, a second leg will not involve Australia.

When the next tour starts circa 2014-2015 we will see that Guy has learnt his lesson re making promises eg "it will happen" and will remain silent until an on sale date is announced. If there is no tour again, we may get an apology video instead of audio lol who knows, I'm going to London next time. I don't believe with the size of her stage and her profit margins that she will ever tour Australia again and she was careful not to say "next time" in her apology
