  1. The Gaga mention. Apparently she gets annoyed when Gaga is being compared to Madonna.

Maya feels that Gaga is not original, that she mostly borrows from the Abba playbook, and she gets annoyed when Gaga is compared to Madonna. “You can’t really say that Gaga is culturally a change,” Maya said. “Madonna was truly unique.” Gavras nodded. “And Madonna was pretty,” he said. “Pop stars should be pretty.” Maya flipped open her computer. “Do you want to see this amazing parody of ‘Telephone’?” she asked. “It’s brilliant!” Gavras stood behind Maya and watched. “This parody has three million hits,” Maya said. “That’s way more than I’ve ever had.”

  2. Excerpt of the Madonna mention:

Iovine may have instinctively realized that in fusing style, music and controversy, Maya evoked Madonna. While Madonna has always been more interested in writing melodious, catchy pop songs and less interested in niche hipster credibility than Maya, they share a gift for grand self-invention. Like Madonna, Maya is not a trained musician but instead a brilliant editor, able to pick and choose and bend the talents of others to fit her goals. They share an enormous appetite and a discerning eye for the intertwined worlds of fashion, art and music. “Madonna is the one,” Maya said. “Madonna did amazing songs. She had an amazing sense of style, without a stylist. And she was flawed, and sometimes she admitted it. I’ll fight the fight for Madonna. I think she should send me some chocolates or something to thank me.

  3. Eternal Sunshine is everything. Definitely his finest achievement and one of the best films of the decade, one that was made for the DVD era as you can get a lot out of it with rewatches.

Agree very much. And Kate Winslet's most Oscar-worthy performance. Certainly far better than the overrated The Reader.

  4. He asked her about going on tour and she joked that she's going to dedicate a whole show to him, so he asked what should they name that show and he suggested 'Vanity'. She didn't like that and said "...How about 'You're So Gay (And You Don't Even Like Boys)'". Some girl was laughing really hard at the background and said it was really funny.

Gaycrest was really shocked and was like "WHAT...?!". M started explaining what that song is about and he wanted to die even more.

    It was really great. ;)

You can hear it hear: http://a1135.g.akama...donna050108.mp3

And that comment basically introduced Katy Perry to the pop world

  5. And what about Madonna's recent endorsement deals? The last one in particular with the flagship brand of the biggest luxury conglomerate in the world, Louis Vuitton. That deal basically cemented Madonna's reputation as the ultimate celebrity queen of luxury fashion. Let's give credit when it's due. Guy O is doing a fantastic job for M.

IN THE RING AND THE POOL: Dolce & Gabbana are hoping their fall ad campaign will be a knockout inside and outside the boxing ring — while the summer one for their underwear is headed to the pool. Taking inspiration from Italian film director Luchino Visconti’s pugilist flick “Rocco e I Suoi Fratelli” (“Rocco and His Brothers”), the campaign, shot by Steven Klein, features Madonna’s beau Jesus Luz, David Gandy, Noah Mills, Adam Senn, Julienne Quevenne and Eva Herzigova, in historical boxing sanctuary Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, the one-time training base of Mohammad Ali and Mike Tyson.

Meanwhile, the underwear campaign was shot by Mariano Vivanco and features five swimmers from the Italian national team — Nicola Cassio, Paolo Bossini, Emiliano Brembilla, Alessandro Terrin and Mirko Di Tora — posing in front of a pool at the Circolo Aniene de Roma, Rome’s historical swimming arena. The campaign breaks this month in leading publications in Italy, the U.K., France, Germany and Spain ahead of the World Swimming Championship to be held June 17 in Rome.

The campaigns continue the Italian maison’s association with sports. D&G featured rugby players in its ads last year, while in 2006 members of Italy’s Word Cup winning soccer team appeared in Dolce & Gabbana’s underwear campaign. — Emilie Marsh
