I remember an MTV item on JLo in 1999 when she was just starting. One of the first shots was JLo returning from a run in NY or LA. She already had the madonna-thing going back then, in terms of exercise... ; )) [in the background playing if you had my] when you watch her first video now, it looks so very old.
But who ISNt inspired by M running. Its an expression of sheer determination/drive and stamina and one of the few moments many could enjoy.
I always felt a little bit like that running in Nice/promenade des Anglais.

I was 19 when it came out. I remember being a little depressed and wasnt sure if it was me or the tracks werent really as melodic and uplifting as I expected. It was suppose to be my antidepressant at the time.. I did love JML the year before and had been watching TOD a million times. This, I guess was suppose to be LAP part II for me. expectations...
Deeper and deeper was the only track my friends liked. and I played all tracks// usually on my way to shitty jobs in the rain on my sony-wm. [i was a student with lots of jobs] some of the music [for me] is connected to dark, cold autumn mornings & endless bike rides.
I must say this album has grown on my more than i could ever imagine. & Bad girl and rain video's were stunning. I think 90% of this album is still on heavy rotation on all my devices.
But if I may compare, I remember a few years later i picked up BS from my fave record store and instantly feeling happy and satisfied. Both these albums are still very high on my list!
She is clearly all about change, growth, darkness and light. In the end it all works so well.

I go there by bike, bring a sandwich from home, buy no crappy merchandise. Have a brilliant experience that will last for at least a year. thats all I care for ; )) x happy fan!!!

Those promotional show probably only pay her expenses/travel/hotel
As she giver them raitings and they give her exposure
I doubt they have a fee to book madonna
I always thought those shows paid millions or at least close to a million. [back in the 90s- and maybe even up to COAD era]
But I do think that is no longer the case. Like this years promotional tour early spring.

I remember WTG tour getting bigger with every stadium she played. Everyone was like "you gotta see this!!! she looks/moves and sounds amazing!!!" / very few moments were televised and only the first few minutes were allowed to be recorded for news channels/ which made it even more mysterious. Untill the Italia broadcast from Turin. School was just starting [ early september I guess ] and she was bigger than ever before. I mean girls at my school started imitating the short hair from then on.
Reading her brothers book [in 2008??], which shortly mentions this tour as well. It kind of ruins the memory of how amazing this whole era was.

One of her best songs ever. I felt it was also the highlight of the WTG tour, when her face comes together on those big screens. light years before flashing backdrops.

A wealthy San Francisco socialite, Gloria Saunders (Chambers), is taken against her will to an elite North Beach sex club and loved "as she's never been loved before". There she engages in lesbian sex with a group of six women, for some reason all dressed in black, before being brought out wearing a white dress on stage through the green door.
The silent, largely masked audience become increasingly aroused as her white dress is removed and she is stroked, kissed and given cunnilingus by the women. Her first heterosexual sex is with the African-American boxer Johnnie Keyes, accompanied by a jazz soundtrack. Over 45 minutes, he gives her more cunnilingus and then they have sexual intercourse, while Gloria continues to be stroked by the other women. When she has an orgasm, the sex stops and he is not shown to ejaculate.
Gloria then mounts a trapeze contraption suspended from the ceiling and then engages in vaginal intercourse with one man as she performs oral sex on another and masturbates two others. The audience become further aroused and begin having sex with each other in what becomes an orgy.In a psychedelic key sequence, an ejaculation is shown with semen flying through the air for almost seven minutes. The film features several multicolored, optically printed, slow-motion close-ups of money shots. This is the only ejaculation sequence in the film. The narrator then runs from the audience onto the stage and carries Gloria off through the green door. The film ends with him and Gloria making love alone.

while we're on the subject of the instrumentation becoming more programmed, lets get rid of the autotune/vocoder fx. I much rather listen to slightly off key than the fx.

^yep there were never more soundchecks recorded than for this tour.
I think it would be surreal. seeing her without the stage make-up. in clothes that look uncomfortable. (billabong??) And not the porcelain skin that magazines always talk about.
In most of those recordings the people around her look a little worried and jumpy.

It looks like she was nearly pushed over on living for love after the cape was removed, the red circle stage was push out too quickly and knocked her backwards.
