  1. That's a loaded question to ask me as the one truly negative thing I have to say about the entire final album is with regard to "Beautiful Scars"... one of the best songs she recorded for the album.

This is just my opinion and many may disagree: The demo was magic and the album version is an absolute abortion. Her vocals wrapped around the vaguely new wave/rock arrangement of the demo beautifully. The version being released replaces the original music with a cheesy, disco-lite backing track that goes nowhere (including during what was a soaring bridge) and finishes it off by adding a random, autotuned male whining at the end. It doesn't match her vocal performance at all and the whole thing just sounds cheap and flat.

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. The demo of Beautiful Scars had an-almost New Orderesque feel to it and now it sounds like a cheap disco knock off.
  2. Omg I know the person who wrote this review! He's just a great person. He's from Australia and like me, was really devastated when Madonna skipped Australia for the millionth time on her tour.

This is the photo used in the The Sun photo:

You need to register to The Sun to read the review but I'm too lazy lol.

Us Aussies are so forgiving of her bypassing us since The Girlie Show!

  3. I could go on and on about this from era to era and write a whole book on it practically. I'll just say her music has been the soundtrack of my life and it's evolved in many of the same ways I have myself. It's like she's been a friend even though we've never met.

You took the words right outta my mouth! Madonna has been a constant soundtrack to my life since 1983. She is like a friend that comforts me, even though we have never met.

  4. But probably the best thing was, we didn't know a great deal about her, she was quite anonymous when it came to revealing herself & not doing a lot of interviews. There was a huge mystery about her & that of course intrigued us more.

I miss the days of album releases before Internet, because you didn't know a great deal about the album & what was on it, except for maybe a single release. The anticipation of buying a new Madonna & playing it right through from start to finish....words cannot explain the feeling....incredibly euphoric! Learning all the dance moves to The Virgin Tour.....I still know them 30 years later I did it so much! Lol!

Oh God, I used to play my Virgin Tour VHS to death and my sister and I would do the moves to DYU together!

I was hooked on Madonna after hearing/seeing 'Burning Up' on Countdown in 1883. It was like she broke my musical virginity! I was smitten and remember recording that and 'Holiday' off the radio onto cassette! Today we take the Internet for granted but this was pre-Internet age and getting a new Madonna album was rather exciting and a revelation!

  5. Oh, I'm with you. Especially the dj personalities. However, let me share an example: I am only ever exposed to the radio while driving. I always prefer total silence in the car so the radio is muted, but I do see the name of the song and the artist on the Sirius screen on the dashboard. Every now and then, in between the Taylor Swifts and that girl who sings about her "big bass" comes something interesting like Nick Jonas' "jealous;" which I would nave never discovered in a million years. I then checked him out on Spotify, etc. And apparently many peoples knowledge of songs is limited to the 5 songs that are played on the radio so it's heartbreaking to see a good song disappear into the ether simply because some radio stations chose not to play it. I hate that radio is so important, but it is. Even the iTunes top ten mirrors the radio playlist: that cannot be a coincidence.

PS Please don't make fun of me for liking "Jealous."

I only ever listen to the 'youth' radio station Triple J in Australia, again in the car somewhere. At least JJJ has a playlist that incorporates more Australian and independant acts (they personally excluded Taylor Swift from their playlists, even though a small % of their demographic probably doesn't mind her!). Without JJJ I would not have 'discovered' Northeast Party House, RUFUS, Owl Eyes and The Swiss. There's a lot to be said for hearing local music.

  6. Similar style as Beautiful Scars: Unapolagatic Bitch (Disco Mix) 4:37

Sounds really cool, faster, more retro club sounds & has cheap high hats. IMO it would be a great bonus track. But my sound system isn't good enough to detect if this mix is based on a filtered acapella.

The vocals seem a bit low in the mix for the UB (Disco Mix), so it may actually be a mix from a filtered acapella (I am listening to it through Bose headphones), though my hearing is probably affected from too many nights clubbing in the past! LOL

  7. That list of songs is scary. They might as well have her bank account information and health records. that's literally everything that was on the recording studio floor. damn.

God, no wonder Madonna felt 'terrorised' and understandably so...having several dozen demo tracks leaked after all that hard work in the studio. She's recovered well, the show must go in. My head has been done in with these leaks.
