  1. The best is that black tie photo of her and Abel in the OP but I'm thinking that would have been from '95. At the Gotham Awards, before the big brouhaha. :D

    http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/gossip/mad-madonna-world-director-ferrara-article-1.702172

" Well, Tuesday night at Roseland, amid a black-tie crowd that included Ted Turner, Jane Fonda, Glenn Close, Christopher Walken, F. Murray Abraham, Annabella Sciorra, Jonathan Demme and Michael Moore, we could see Madonna having an animated chat with Ferrara, who was there to pick up the Gotham Filmmaker Award. Madonna was scowling. Ferrara was waving his arms like a lobster facing a boiling pot. Finally, she turned on her heel and stormed off. We asked Ferrara, "What was that all about?

" "She's all upset," said the raspy, craggy-faced director. "What can I say? I can't resist a good gag line. But I didn't mean it the way it came out. You can see how I feel in every frame of that movie.

" Then he instructed us: "Go tell her that.

  2. Probably made during rehearsals since she does not talk about how the tour is going but she talks about the process of chosing which track goes into the show

Thanks for posting ! The original interview was from July and just updated two days ago in time for Detroit with a few more quotes and to confirm the songs that actually made it. :)

  3. when she laughs about heavy flows and tampons lmao

Amazing scenes and a great mix of passive vulnerability and poised physicality. You can tell she is totally winging it with the bs answer.

.Like Ferrara said “It begins with trust. The script is an improvisation, rehearsals are an improvisation, and then you get out there ... Whatever’s gonna happen, is gonna happen there, and then, you just hope all the planets line up.” :)

  4. Touring acts dont have a time limit from my own experience,I've managed a couple of retail outlets for concerts at the casino I work for but permanent residencies do

I still can't believe LV only has one date :(

I can. Didn't Madonna say once they were one of the worst crowds and least favorite places to play ? Maybe TAB if she's never coming back. :)

  5. oh c'mon! this is the main reason why she never could succeed in films, her fans never supported her

Even Britney fans went to see that crappy movie CROSSROADS and they enjoyed it! Even Christina fans loved Burlesque and made it a decent hit at the box office. Hell! Freacking Jlo, whose movies aren't better than Madonna's STILL has box office power

Madonna's fanbase is bigger than theirs. But her fans always complain about her movies.

TNBT did succeed in the sense that it made money that doesn't mean that most people still didn't detest it, and her performance in particular.

  6. I cant believe she read the script and decided to join this mess after EVITA

The whole synopse sounds like a razzie winner

She must have done it to promote the then up and coming trend of unconventional parenting, or as Roger Ebert put it a "garage sale of gay issues." and as an infomercial for same sex couples it isn't all bad. From the perspective of craft or art it is obviously a tone deaf disaster.

  7. Omg! Lol why Am I being interrogated?! :lmao:

I just feel that her newer music is not being valued enough compared to her older music that's all. Sure, most of her fans here are older and stuck in (the 80's) their ways, likes and dislikes so for them the only Music that matters and truly enjoy is the old stuff. Just go to the RH tour thread and you'll see them winning about "everybody" or "who is that girl" not being included. Lol

I am not big on a lot of the '80's music either and don't like the pressure from fans to perform hits when she would rather be doing the newer stuff if that is what you mean. OTOH, if AL songs were officially on the setlist and then disappeared I'm pretty sure there would be questioning of that too. :D

  8. By the way, Abel Floprrara is a piece of crap director, a Nick Cassavetes wannabe whose entire filmography is UTTER CRAP that no one has seen

lol Madonna is the one that has called Ferrara an "underground genius," watched all the films and gone on about his brilliant "European" style techniques in interviews. I support that. Along with the movie she has acknowledged actually being good in.

Probably because she finally worked with the only director who didn't hesitate to put her in her place, someone with way more nerve to spare than even herself. 100% wedded to the art of cinema. Uncompromising. Whatever their differences at the time she has to respect the hell out of that attitude.

Spread the love !!! Let's finally make it a cult classic ! :)

  9. I personally don't care about stupid records, I only think is great that more people get to see her live, especially in places she's never been before. I'm not from Asia and I got so excited when I found out she was doing a proper tour there

I'm thinking about the Japan date especially with exchange rates so good and being due a visit there anyway. The middle of February is just what puts it all on ice so to speak, especially in Tokyo where transport can grind to a halt and trains get cancelled at the drop of a hat (or anything over an inch of snow). :/

  10. this tour is unbelievable by looking at all those overwhelming and flooding reviews with great reception.

we have seen only very few negatives.

i'm really curious to see what the reviews would be like from the mid west and west coast.

certaily she won in her favor in east coast and canada.

i think her fans and critics in east coast are more in love with her.

    this is remarkable so far.

I know. It makes me wonder now what she can possibly do as a follow up. :)

  11. I don't think it is misogynistic at all. Just as one example, Eddie Israel's wife Matlyn is held up as the true protagonist at the heart of an otherwise tragic vision. A pillar of graciousness, strength of character, sincerity and a kind of non Hollywood, non performative morality which the other characters are unable to allow themselves to embrace and the rejection of which in the end is what more than anything seals their descent into madness and ultimately death

  12. She's so wonderful in it but the movie is terrible, it's such a narcissistic entreprise, self fascination exercize by Ferrara. If he drunk less he could be able to make another Bad Lieutenant, It's been 20 years now and all his movies are terrible duds and from people who had to deal with him and i know, he's not a nice person. AT ALL.

Madonna was a producer on ths movie and if she was such a bitch she could have asked for final cut which she didn't asked for.

Ferrara has been away from all drugs since 2011-2012 and one billion times happier sober than not (at least lol), so whatever you think of the recent work like M always says maybe we shouldn't be too quick to judge cause none of us know where either that person or we are going to eventually end up. :)

  13. I think the final film is brilliant, completely fascinating to watch; but it looks like it would have been a terrible experience to shoot.

Like Isabella Rossellini said about his next film, "There was so much confusion, you never knew if the camera was on or off, if they're fighting for real or doing a scene. Everything had the potential to be in the movie, if the camera was rolling it kept rolling." Not to mention drug dealing on the set (before Ferrara was sober) and getting raped and killed onscreen by the best friend of Sean Penn when you went in to recover from an abusive marriage. Gut wrenchingly painful no doubt but so many unforeseen elements being introduced from the real world was also what allowed Madonna to eventually break down and go forward with the emotion in a big way.

The original workprint was a little under four hours so something was always going to have to go, most of what made her part strong, accessible and feminist friendly was most likely out before rehearsals even ended. Madonna was definitely misled in that she and Franco were the only two of the four that apparently were unaware throughout that the scripted lines would never be used, but no one was outright lied to that I know. On the merits of the film itself I basically agree with Harvey Keitel's observation that there are brilliant moments but that something in the central story is lacking.

  14. Dangerous Game is one of only a couple of studio films Ferrara has ever done so Madonna and Maverick definitely got it more theatrical distribution than most of his films which go straight to video. She didn't 'kill' it by any stretch but she didn't help nearly as much as she could have either. :(.

Presumably M still loves his work and he has been more respectful of her as a director than actress...it would be awesome if they could get together in some capacity again with her money and him struggling like a perpetual film school graduate for funding and distribution. They are alike in so many respects it's absolutely a match made in heaven. :)

  15. Best performance of hers in film. When I think about it I find it odd that she can act so amazingly, then do a doozy of a film TNBT!

I get blown away by her in DG. I find her mesmerising!

She spoke positively about the experience to the L.A. Times during Evita is what I find so inexplicable and then proceeds to work (again) with directors that may be famous but have no chance of extracting all encompassing, life altering searing performances on anything close to a similar level. :/

One perceived strike against Madonna was her appearance in so many mundane films--"Shanghai Surprise," "Who's That Girl" and "Body of Evidence" among them. "I absolutely agree," she shrugged. She described her experiences on film sets as "soul destroying, with the exception of the movie I did with Abel Ferrara ["Dangerous Game"]. That destroyed my soul in a different way because it was such a violent emotional experience. But at least I felt I was going somewhere, exploring new territory. I feel everything else I've done has been rather trivial."

  16. Becuz Madonna likes autonomy. She probably was able to micromanage Swept Away and felt more comfortable with the end result becuz it was partly her vision. Even tho it was awful. But she can't be objective. It's been repeated many times; she's got every attribute of a performer and creator, none of an actor. That's why W.E. was a decent little movie. Her foray into film as a director makes way more sense. W.E. doesn't have the best script but its a good little first/second timer. She had full control and it was her vision.

Dangerous Game was a vulnerable performance by her and it likely made her uncomfortable. She had to bad mouth it to make herself feel more at ease.

I think she also realized on some level that Ferrara was absolutely unique in allowing the different elements to collide at full throttle -- film within a film, scenes of family life, shootage from video rehearsals that may or may not be staged, encouraging extemporaneous, off the cuff dialogue, with mostly one shot takes, sitting in a corner with a glass of wine and allowing the film to basically shoot itself :D it was not a process that was going to be replicated on a standard set or any project she would likely be involved with again. Say what you will about Ferrara films, the actors are able to act. And not only Madonna but in many, many cases he gets the performance of a career out of his famous stars.

  17. Forget Evita, she had her best perf in this movie.

And she was at her most beautiful too. It's a shame she was in the midst of a major backlash, otherwise she may have been more cautious about badmouthing the movie. Apparently she wasn't happy with the final cut or something, but still. It's the director's movie not yours Madonna

Love them all, but there was no way venturing into the world with Ferrara, Keitel and Russo was ever going to be a female film....she was naive in this regard. It isn't beyond Ferrara to sign away anything for financing and "fuck you" later when the final cut becomes sacrosanct, he's famous for being a law to himself, but I think in truth M basically felt betrayed by the result and simply used that as an excuse.

  18. I think S&S did a solid job of showcasing HC. Though I detest her inclusion of Spanish Lesson. She literally could have saved it for the South American leg of her tour only.

AL was short changed by the re-Invention tour. The Girlie Show did an excellent job showcasing Erotica. It's unfortunate she has not been more inclined to revisit it fully for the recent tours. It fits with all of her albums after it except Bedtime Stories.

She plays down every project and aspect of that time, not only the album, so obviously it is either still too personally painful or at the least professionally inconvenient.

  19. There have always been reports floating around that he was charged with domestic assault in 1988 and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor but I don't think that is accurate. Unless those were the charges that Madonna filed and withdrew before the divorce ???

  20. ?

The self destructive, negative presentation of sex on display in the video is from the perspective of a woman being taken down to a place of depression, anxiety, drug use,and suicide by her own doing whereas in Dangerous Game the relationships between actors become contaminated by the violence of their work together as a family and community. It is hard to see that the movie didn't have an influence when that really does seem the major difference.

  21. He probably likes better the rip off Vilaine Fermière did with Abel Ferrara (with whom Madonna was filming Snake Eyes with at the time of the bad girl shoot) for her song California 2 years later :fuckoff:

The message of the video is completely different. It may be a rip off of something but unfortunately not a Madonna movie. :D
