I hope so cause she looked STUNNING that day. Do you remember seeing that video of her toasting champagne and singing happy birthday to someone? She called them a bitch I think? She looked SO GOOD! It was on the same day, she was wearing that same headpiece.

    Yes it was

From the pic on instagram trailer it looks like M is speaking to Mykki before she will get burnt at stake, kind of like a Mary magdalene.

Yes, the patriarchy remark made no sense at all.

Maybe its because the editorial line probably encouraged and directed the framing of the article to be about M’s age and its direct correlation to it being a woman.

i too wish she did not make a big deal about it- but 1. she has every right to speak up havent given this person access 2. She s fighting with this album. Using the rape analogy + referring to her awful experience brings media attention= attention to M’s new work she is releasing. She s been doing this for decades, she knows whats up.

    This all sounds super exciting!

However M didnt innagurate iTunes in 2005. It was already around for some time- she had a video call with steve jobs during one of their events (her arm broken from horse ride) and she announced her back catalogue would be added to iTunes and then her new album then COADF.

  4. Im so excited!! Saw this billboard today on the London tube.

I have listened to M since I was a kid, and started following her releases since Bedtime Story. Since then I have bought every album the day it came out.

I bought Music on its midnight release. I streamed AL in a lunch break from work.

I dont take it for granted we have one of our favorite girls around, inspired and kicking ass. Cant wait to hear the world she s created with this album.

  5. I agree its not amazing. And of course remixes in the past by Groove Armada, Deep Dish, Orbital, William Orbit, Felix Da housecat, Shep and Kruder and Dorfmeister etc raised the bar high. Record Industry has changed- spending that much money on remixes doesnt make sense anymore. But there have always been a lot of generic “for the dance floor of the time” remixes throught out here career. Are we just more picky now because there are so many options out there and we can listen to anything we want whenever. I remember getting the maxi singles before in the 90s and 00s and listening to those NON-STOP along with albums.

See what I mean. Completely clueless.

I live in the UK. Yes it has been really shitty. But you know why? Because of the missed oportunity. Lets face it, the same people that were going to buy her album  and concert tickets last week are the same ones that will in a month. EV could have been an oportunity for MORE people to warm up to her again and buy her new material. It didnt happen. People hating on madonna now were hating on her last week- now they just have more steam and press atm. Anyone who loves her and or likes her work can seee through all of this.

Thats not to say with some more great promo there will be good success but yes EV had a lot of potential.

So in that sense it is not as dramatic as we think, but it does suck.

I really like the eyepatch, but the costume looked very restrictive and seemed to limit her movement.  I think her face is looking beautiful right now, so it would have been great if she'd come on in a more a simple, but flattering outfit and looked stunning and delivered an amazing show-stopping performance. That's all it would've taken to get a lot of people back on board.

Whilst there are  many who are only too happy to see her fail, Madonna's brilliance can be enough to silence her critics, which is what happened with Live8 after her reputation had taken a hit following American Life, and perfectly laid the ground for the release of HU/COAD.

I love the eye patch as well. Its a character for Madame X. David Bowie did it. I love it when M is theatrical. Dita gold tooth. Its over the top and I love it. She looked so iconic in medellin video and artwork for album.

I understand Madonna is absolutely unapologetic etc etc etc and she has nothing to aplogize for HOWEVER our lady could turn this into an absolute opportunity, negative into a positive, of sorts! Let's face it EV was a PR disaster from the VERY beginning, even before Madonna was involved, mainly due to the Israel factor. I believe it would bode well for her to address the two controversies, one being the vocal and the other being her political statement PARTICULARLY while this is a huge story, I don't mean through her instagram or any other mild avenue but with a press conference explaining the vocal scenario, for whatever reason it was (I believe there was a reason) she is a perfectionist, it would provide some light and shade while providing context instead of the usual blocking out the noise of 'whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger' attitude, which frankly gets tired and can cause more harm than good. Madonna could use a press conference to announce a charity or some other philanthropic cause for the problems in Israel and Palestine while addressing everything that has occurred and actually put it to bed and follow up with a killer performance similar to the simplicity of Borderline on Jimmy Fallon, Madonna is never going to have the voice of a soprano but the girl can sing. The fact we still have to defend her vocal abilities after forty years is exhausting and normally I would say let's walk away its just 'white noise' but this time I believe it needs addressing.

You forgot the part about the press/ conferences being decorated with hydrangeas. 🤣🤣🤣

All jokes aside, as much as she d never do something like that I think she should address the whole thing somehow in a way that feels organc and natural to her. If she did a Youtube livr of her singing La Vie en rose with her ukelele 🌹

Why she doesn’t understand that she doesn’t need to try hard. Shes the fucking queen of pop. She earned her status and she doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. Now she’s trying to hard with all these heavy costumes grillz and that crappy eyepatch. Minimal Madonna is the best Madonna.  It really hurts when i see all this negativity. She had perfect opportunity to make best promo for a new era and she fucked up, fucked up hard.   Now all Europe talking how bad she was, how bad she looked and sounded. Let’s wait few more days and everyone will forgets all that mess.

I think she needs to be challenged and passionate about what she a doing. If she made it simple, made it banal, made it easy then she wouldnt do it anymore...

There a lot of things that look a bit rushed in this era. She filmed for months all this footage and then she filmed two music videos before the release of the singles, one of which has not even appeared yet. Eurovision performance had bad choreography, was clumsy and looked like it was last minute decisions, Quavo looked like he had no clue what he was doing. I even think the JPG costume was still being sown at last minute then he just chucked some netting all over it. MedellĂn at BBMAs was fun though but again didn't have that oomph it needed. I think the collaborations with Swae Lee and Maluma were last minute and were to get a hit but at least thes e have had great outcomes! Where the fuck is the Crave video? Nuno is too busy documenting behind the scenes

For sure. Dont get me wrong it doesnt feel rushed like Rebel Heart rushed. The concept, artwork, medellin video and the music all sounds like she has put a LOT of time perfecting them. I do think there is a lot of stuff they shot and will release where a lot of the work has gone into. I refused to believe she was rehearsing for Medellin BBMA for 3 weeks.... the AR yes but not her in a rehersal studio. More stuff is coming.

  11. I love what she was doing conceptually:

A woman (joan of arc) in a patriarchal world (monks), she calls them out in segueway (imagery of religious priests and monks), then an upbeat urgent song about apocalipsy and the future hope for mankind taking masks of, robots, becoming human again, peace.

Musically LAP was as conceptual as could be: almost acapella with a new arrangement of greogorian chants and a spare organ. Future is her experimenting with new sound as she always has through her career.

I applaud her for sticking to her conceptual vision.

However she does not make it easy for herself. Ive loved from her that she plays the game so you can reach more people and make more of an impact.

This was Eurovision with a giant audience that could have attuned people to be more open to her and her message at least a little. I was with gays, one said as she was being interviewed “why is she even there”. A good number of people dont like her because she is a strong woman, what she stands for and because she has been around too long.

So it would have been nice for people to watch this performance and at least say ok “i may not love her but thats why shes Madonna”

thats not to say i dont applaud her and loved her performance and Im so happy with this era.

    But...

I rewatched LAP live 8 and RIT her vocals were not amazing, they were good/fine. But the rich arrangament, full choir and back up singers take the song to another level. That song is a formula that strikes a chord. I think it would have been wise to get people excited and warm up to her in such a big event then still have a political message.

A little montage of videos of her career at the beginning or sing one of her joyous past hits would have been good to. I know a little lame but people need to remember who she is and how important her legacy is in pop music. Theyll take it for granted.

But I respect what this is what she wanted to do- and i liked it. Had it been a tour i get it, but for this perfomance it was going to be challenging for a good reaction.

Can I say that while Ive loved Megans choreo for the MET and for Medellin video, i didnt LOVE it for Medellin BBMA or for Eurovision? They are okay but not amazing. It all looks a bit rushed put together.

Anyways, love this era. Love what we have in store. Loving the music, the visuals

This is spot on, people on this forum have a hard time ever admitting she does anything wrong... This is one of those issues that's going to be looked on incredibly negatively in her career for years to come and one that completely contradicts her whole "standing up for the disenfranchised" messaging. She's a smart woman who knows exactly what's happening in the area and her refusal to see her wrongdoings here is incredibly disappointing but I guess some increased exposure for new music and an extra million dollars in her pocket is worth the terrible judgement.

    All understandable.

But, it is not news that Madonna supports the state of Israel as well as Palestine. Music and the arts support the place, the culture and the people. Not the Israeli government. The government in place will try and use it to their advantage, but people can and will see through that. We re not talking about a dictatorship that just came power 2 months ago via bloodshed.

By this logic she would have also skipped the BB awards because of Trump. And so many other awards under past US presidents that made wrong decisions when it came to wars.

If anything she will Im sure speak of unity and non- violence through her performance as she always has and will. This will be food for the thought for ALL sides. Not just one.

I'd say it's quite the opposite. Most of the stuff he's released surrounding Medellin, like his own single "HP" and his collaboration with Becky G "La Respuesta" has done better.

And if we go by streaming the difference is quite big.

In YouTube "HP" has 283M in two months, "La Respuesta" has 67M in three weeks while "Medellin" is still at 20M in two weeks.

In Spotify this is how "HP" is currently doing:

    Spotify:
    #1 Mexico
    #4 Bolivia
    #4 Ecuador
    #4 Peru
    #8 El Salvador
    #8 Uruguay
    #9 Guatemala
    #11 Argentina
    #11 Colombia
    #12 Nicaragua
    #13 Honduras
    #14 Spain
    #16 Costa Rica
    #18 Paraguay
    #23 Chile
    #24 Worldwide
    #35 Dominican Republic
    #38 Panama
    #43 Switzerland
    #44 Italy
    #52 Portugal
    #57 Bulgaria
    #64 Romania
    #68 Luxembourg
    #76 Israel
    #78 Malta
    #82 Cyprus

    #127 Hungary
    #137 Greece
    #146 Slovakia
    #187 United States

    "La Respuesta":

    Spotify:
    #36 Spain
    #48 Uruguay
    #50 Bolivia
    #63 Peru
    #69 Argentina
    #70 Ecuador
    #73 Mexico
    #97 Guatemala
    #99 Chile
    #125 El Salvador
    #147 Paraguay
    #151 Honduras
    #156 Panama
    #160 Colombia
    #166 Costa Rica
    #180 Dominican Republic

    And "Medellin":

    Spotify:
    #100 Bulgaria
    #116 Colombia
    #186 Australia
    #192 Bolivia
    #199 Guatemala

To be honest and when checking those numbers I don't think most of his fanbase is connecting with the track. Madonna mispronouncing "conmigo" all over the song probably doesn't help. (She sings conmigo when it should be conmigo so it sounds rather odd and forced to a Spanish speaking person. It's a bit shocking nobody tried to work around this in production).

I love Medellin. Beautiful track. We ve discussed.

But a good example of it not connecting with people saw last night: a party with europeans and latin americans. I was surprised someone at the party said lets play the new Madonna song- of course they go to youtube- everyones drinking and had just been listening to dancey music before this.

First the intro (which i love) theyre like okay this is too long and start to fast forward. They do the same with verses. They forward to the middle when the song is going and thats when they leave it and people dance. But of course this means they will probably not bother again.

I think the solution is to make a Radio Dance Edit version on youtube with more of a beat on the verses, sped up a bit, no intro. People would LOVE IT. Specially 1 2 cha cha parts.

There was a time I'd have said that Madame X in the Sphinx remix could form the basis of a cool Egyptian-tinged section of the next tour! I think those days are over now but it's a nice fantasy!

    Would be amazing!

Oh well at least we have Vogue from Superbowl.

  15. Beyond being about craving and longing is this song about  falling for someone a lot younger than her? Hence the Swae Lee feat. “Its on the line girl, youre risking everything”

Then in the bridge she says “i ran i ran and it was all inside of me” maybe these cravings were scapism and distractions for being content.

Love how it starts with the mumbling singing as if shes numb, very stylized and different for her. Then she sounds completely beautiful, very bare LAP type vocals.

  16. I am starting to feel like Madame X will be a very nostalgic almost sad album but in a very beautiful, humanist and fighter / surviver kind of a way. Medellin being about dreaming of being a teenager again, the theme of resilience of Rise and now the nostalgia and longing of Crave.

It makes sense in a way, just having been in Portugal these are themes and feel I got specially from Fado music. It's also very honest and personal.
