  1. In response to the earlier discussion about health insurance -

The idea that people are paying more for less is complete bullshit. A lot of CRAP insurance plans existed before that covered very little and thus did not cost anything. Now plans may cost more but they MUST cover more and also limit the amount of out of pocket costs an individual can incur. Thus, if one has insurance and gets a catastrophic illness, they won't end up with outrageous bills to pay that they could never afford. Small businesses with only 15 employees are not required to provide healthcare for their employees now and they weren't before - and few small businesses did provide it before. As this 2013 chart shows, businesses with fewer than 50 employees provide insurance about 30% of the time - http://kff.org/other/state-indicator/firms-offering-coverage-by-size/

The other 70% had to get insurance on their own or go without. Pre existing conditions meant they couldn't get insurance. As many people have low incomes, they get subsidies for their premium - to the tune of 72% of people who get insurance though the Affordable Care Act - "For enrollees in the 37 states that used HealthCare.gov in 2015, those subsidies pay an average of 72 percent of the full premium cost, leaving subsidized insureds responsible for just $105 per month in premiums."

    https://www.healthinsurance.org/obamacare/will-you-receive-an-obamacare-premium-subsidy/

This is not even to mention the many millions of people who are now eligible for Medicaid that weren't before (provided that their state is not run by an obstructionist Republican who refused to implement the expansion). http://obamacarefacts.com/obamacares-medicaid-expansion/

Those who do not receive a subsidy (like my partner) can pay between $300 and $1200 per month depending on the type of plan they choose - but that's because his employer is an ASSHOLE and only offered the shittiest possible plan which none of his employees chose to take and most are now enrolled in Medicaid.

There are really good things in the ACA including the pre-existing condition clause and the law is actually helping many people. But for the average person that didn't need the ACA, which was the majority of Americans, the ACA didn't help and in many cases it made things worse.

And yeah, small businesses with only 15 employees are not required to provide healthcare, however, those that did now have to pay more and may not offer it in the future anymore. I know small business owners that pay an exorbitant amount of health insurance for their employees and they will not hire anymore because they can't afford to do it. So, the fact that your partner's employer even offers a plan at all is giving him an on option which he wouldn't have otherwise. I don't know if you called him an A-hole because or despite of that, but at least he offers a plan when many nowadays won't even bother.

The argument is not that people have not benefited from the ACA. Its execution is what is in question. Do you know part of the reason why college education is so expensive? It's because the government subsidizes it. Capitalism is based on offer and demand, if there were no one willing to pay these extremes prices, colleges would close. Insurance carriers can increase these subsidized plans and there will be no major effect on the insured since the government will pay 70% of the costs, but guess who's making more money? You see, when the middlemen are profiting and the government is paying the bill, there's little to no incentive in improving or innovating the system.

Maybe people are paying more for more. But is it more of what they needed? Or is it more of what is now mandated even if it does not apply to the majority?

  2. The ACA was a mediocre watered down bill that had to get dragged across the finish line after Obama stupidly tried to extend an olive branch to the GOP, who were focused on fucking it up if not killing it completely.

It was filibustered to death in the senate and Joe Lieberman, the dumb fuck that he is, is to blame for killing the public option. Then the democrats lost a seat in Massachusetts to Scott Brown and fucked their majority. As a result this is the bill we got.

Lieberman retired from the senate with absolutely none of colleagues attending his goodbye. Everyone hates him.

    Bingo!

The public option would be closer to socialism since the government would be running its own health insurance agency. As it is now, the government AND the public are on the hook and the big insurers are raking all the cash.

  3. There's absolutely nothing socialist / communist about the Affordable Care Act. It's 100%, pure capitalism.

You make fun of me for saying that people are "brainwashed." People think the Affordable Care Act didn't work because it's SOCIALIST and COMMUNIST  They don't even know what the fuck socialism is yet they think it's the worst thing EVER.

    Regina George in sheep's clothes.

It would be socialism if the government was just re-distributing wealth but the way it works now, the big insurance companies are profiting obscenely from it. It's not 100% capitalism though because there's no market freedom, it's imposed by the government. So, yes and no.

  4. It's a disaster. They're running premiums so high and large a lot of small businesses can't afford it anymore. For a company of 15, you're looking at 20,000 a month for a PPO

They want everyone to drop private insurance and go with OC. Obama and Hillary don't use Obama care.

They have very rich, expensive private doctors.

    ---

    Nobody Cares.

Yep, small business were hit the hardest. A lot of people are paying more for less. Of course, there are those that benefit too. The biggest winners were the insurance companies themselves. They have more people paying their premiums plus the government paying it too now and they pass the higher costs to their current customers. Insurance carriers have it made in America. Obamacare was a dream come true to them.

  5. Yes it's you. Your IPs are extremely similar from the same town. You have the same posting style as him. He copied pasted articles constantly from political specific sites and went through the effort of formatting his posts. No one else does that here or ever has. And from the get-go you've made digged remarks to veterans here and their views (Ulizos, Pud, GU), and this particular forum section hasn't been public in years, so I don't how else you'd know them so well when you were a newbie under this account. Too many coincidences. Stop lying!

    I LOVE this!

  6. BTW, is anyone streaming the Opening Ceremony live? I really don't want to sit through NBC's coverage with its one hour delay and infinite commercials? How can you stream the Brazilian/Spanish/Australian/British coverage?

Any help me would be very appreciated.

  7. I hope Queen Valezca Popozuda opens the olympics

    What is a Popozuda?

    tumblr_inline_mojgehhYDL1qdlkgg.gif

Wasn't Sochi almost as bad? I mean they didn't have disgusting waters but they had ski slopes with no snow

I'm so excited for the opening ceremony. Omg I just saw this :lmao: :lmao:

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen will put her acting skills to the test as she will be mugged in an elaboroate scene in the Olympics opening ceremony in a brutally honest reflection on life Rio de Janeiro, it has been reported.

The surprising scene, which is expected to be watched by an estimated 900 million viewers on Friday night, were revealed on social networking sites by spectators who watched a full dress rehearsal yesterday.

    OH - KAY...

  8. Pud Whacker, aside from being an obvious troll, is a Republican through and through. Ulizos openly supports terrorism, so he has issues that go way beyond Hillary Clinton. I must say that did love tracking down his copy and paste jobs from Workers' Party (Communist) web sites where they make excuses for the likes of Stalin and co. Sloane didn't know that Puerto Rico was a United States territory. :lmao: Ciccone's Cheeks is Chicken Little who just wants to be on the right side of the outcome. He/she now thinks Hillary is going to lose, so he/she is already declaring Hillary the worst person in the world... when two seconds ago Hillary was fine in their eyes. It's like declaring Rebel Heart a good or bad album depending on how many copies it sold. Hillary will be great to them when she's up by 10. Rebel Heart will be the best album Madonna's ever made when it hits 10 million sold.

Your opinion is different than theirs, fine. It doesn't make you smarter than anyone though.

  9. oh ya :lmao:

I was in Beijing 2 years after the Olympics there and the Birds Nest stadium where they had the opening ceremony looked a mess. It literally looked like an abandoned building from decades ago. It was filthy and the inside looked like it was about to collapse. And there were little children pissing and sh-tting all over it. Like I saw kids going up to it to piss or literally squatting on it. Aka in Beijing it's common for kids to do that and they have a hole in the butt of their pants/onesies for easy access. I saw a kid squatting to sh-t next to a meat stand @ the night market lol

  10. But this always happens before the Olympics? Beijing had the smog and human rights, Sochi had the ski slopes with no snow and anti gay protestors and no electricity etc....it always turns out fine

I'm not that into sports but I L.U.V. the Olympics. When Michael Phelps won his 8th gold medal I painted my room blue in honour of the waters he swam in lol

    What-GIF.gif?gs=a

  11. So, despite Zika, polluted water, violence, poorly constructed Olympic village, etc... who is looking forward to the party the Brazilians are going to throw??

And how can we stream the opening ceremony live (since NBC will delay its broadcast)?
