It's a great video, visually & artistically.... but I don't really the way she kept repeating the same tune from the beginning till the end.

The Batukadeiras don’t sing per se, they chant. And their chanting is supported with the drums, the main and most important instrument. Drums are everything here. The louder they get, the more spiritual the chant. Batukadeiras always have a lead singer, who they all repeat after. They usually sing stories, sometimes they sing at weddings, and the chant would have a sort of an advice like meaning to the newly wedded couple or specifically the bride. The lead would sing a phrase and the choir follows and so on.

I told you she just recorded her parts on the studio! Thats not her on the beach

    #itoldyousoooooo

Are we doing this again? Lol People were saying it wasn’t her riding a horse in Medellín video and if turned out that it really was her. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but like, unless you have legit sources to back up what you’re saying, don’t spread potentially false information, just saying...

She seems so happy in this video with an aura of eternal youth characteristic of people who continue to be curious and open to discover new things  all their lives.

Yes!! It’s official, after this video, anyone who still doesn’t “get” Batuka is a shallow, empty shell, period! The Queen on the other hand continues to live her life fully and just when you thought she couldn’t be more creative, she explores new venues and brings life into today’s dull pop industry!

  4. Can we please wake up and appreciate just how CONNECTED Madonna really is with the world?? WHAT other pop star is like that? Mariah? I mean, I’m not trying to put down anyone else, I’m just saying, Madonna is the most  in tuned with everything that’s going on globally! Israel, Palestine, Malawi, Brazil, Portugal, etc.

When I first heard the name "Batuka" ... the first thing I thought was in Brazil, Bahia, Iemanjá, the ocean and especially in the new year's eve celebrations ...

I always spend the new year's eve on  the beach. That's why it's my favorite song. 😊

Omg I’m so glad I’m not the only one 😂👍🏼 Yes yes yes

I have not been a fan of this song but the video may turn it around for me. I really like what I see so far!

Listen to this song, start from the middle somewhere because it starts kind of slow. This is the type of musical style among Brazilian Baianas who worship different nature deities. This particular song is dedicated to the goddess of the sea called Iemanja.

Yes, the thing about these kind of songs is that you have to understand where they come from in order to appreciate the sound. I fell in love with it right away because I was already familiar with this type of music before, visiting Bahia, Brazil.

Well, number one, there is no need to be rude, number two I am not a sjw, and number three, you are wrong. A "Native Indian" would be someone who was born in India. The reason that the term "Indians" stuck was because when the Americas were discovered the explorers believed that they were IN India, so they called the native tribes "Indians." If you ask Native Americans today if they want to be called "Indians" they will tell you that they do not.

SO, my point is that I don't know why Madonna didn't just write, "I will be Native American, if the tribe is taken" or something to that effect.

To those comments above, which got out of hand because I mentioned "Killers" in a "Batuka" video thread... I am well aware of gay people being burned, women being raped, the poor being downtrodden, etc. I do not live under a rock, my point is that IN MY OPINION these two songs could have really used some polishing in the lyrics department.

I love all of Madonna's albums in different ways, but I will be the first one to say that "Superstar" "Birthday Song" "Spanish Lesson" or "Beat Goes On" are head scratchers among otherwise brilliant bodies of work and I can say the same about certain tracks from MADAME X.

I feel some tension in some of the commentary and perhaps some of that comes from the fact that I am a new poster to this forum, sadly Madonna Xfinity closed shop and I was forced to relocate, lol!

Don't take me as a hater or a troll, I am a genuine fan that just doesn't feel that I have to enjoy everything and I also have the right to say I don't like a track or a look. It doesn't make me a less-than fan. 😃

Everybody in the world knows that there are two, so to speak, kinds of Indians, the once living in India, and the ones, usually called Native Indians, living in USA. We all know why, as we know the history. But your stubbornness to be so stuck up on that phrase and thus calling the whole song incorrect is annoying and it’s frustrating everyone on here. So just stop. We get it. You don’t like the song. Okay!

No, that’s not it and it isn’t political, it’s incorrect. I don’t like “Killers” because I think it’s subpar, the “Native Indian” part is confusing.

Again, I don’t have to like what you like and vice versa.

What is so “incorrect” about Killers to you? You keep stating your opinions as facts, but apart from “native Indian”, which by the way I didn’t have a problem understanding what she meant, all the lyrics are very on point and relate to everything that’s going on in our world. So how any of it is “incorrect” to you honestly just makes me wanna roll my eyes. You haven’t heard about gay people literally being set on fires in Uganda? You haven’t heard of hatred toward Islam or women getting raped? What planet do you live on?

“Native Indian” is politically incorrect to the point of being offensive. Native Americans aren’t Indians. I was actually shocked that Madonna used this terminology to force a rhyme.

“Medellín” is different, IMO, as it’s polished, flows, and has structure, and the vocals are smooth. Again, I like my M songs polished and to me these sound like demos.

We don’t have to like the same things as both of our opinions are valid.

P.S. I have no idea why the second part of my post is larger.

Ok, so there we go, you just don’t like it because your views on politics are different. That’s fine. Moving on.

It’s not disrespectful, I just don’t like them. I love 15 out of 18 tracks. I don’t have to like everything. Also, I don’t move the tracks around, just cut them. I think “Dark Ballet” has the most promise, but the overuse of vocoder on the Joan of Arc quotes makes you strain to understand the words and “Supreme hoodie” isn’t known well enough to make sense to most listeners. “Killers,” to me, is the worst track on the album, a wonderful concept with a beautiful chorus but odd verses... there is no such thing as a “native Indian” for example. “Batuka” has a good beat, but I think it could be a lot better, again, delivery and lyrics. Truthfully, the people for whom I have played the album aren’t fans of these three, either, and they very much enjoy Madonna.

i prefer a more polished pop Madonna which is why I like the bonus material more than those 3 tracks.

I’m a huge M fan, so I love the vast majority of her work, but some things just don’t work for me.

On the other hand I am very excited about the tour and what she has in store. I think “Dark Ballet” will be an interlude and she will perform “Batuka.” “Killers” to me is a toss up.

Well, I have to respectfully disagree. Lyrics of both Killers and Batuka is one of the reasons I love these songs. I find myself singing these two over and over throughout the day because I love the lyrics so much. These are first two songs I memorized right away besides Medellín.  Also, if you gonna nitpick lyrics like that (referencing Native Indian) then you might as well stop listening to pop music altogether.

I don't think the structure of "Batuka" is what bothers me, as I said before, I think her vocals are too nasally or somehow processed in an unflattering way, the lyrics are somewhat amateur for her, but at the end of the day, she's not really actually singing a song, she's just sort of sing-talking. I find it so amusing that when I put my version of the album together I omitted "Dark Ballet" "Batuka" and "KIllers" and replaced them with "Ciao Bella" "Back That Up" and "Funana" while so many other fans seem to LOVE those 3. I just find them hard to listen to with "Dark Ballet" being the most palatable.

Killers was the first song she wrote when she began this journey. She put her heart and soul into it and her Portuguese is gorgeous. Batuka is one of her most ethnic songs she’s ever done, with the African beats and Batukadeiras singing in the chorus. Her voice is meant to be nasally because of the atmosphere of the song, like she’s part of the tribe. You replaced these songs with bonus tracks that sound great on their own, but definitely not better. Just accept the album as it is and allow these songs to come to you. Disregarding them like that is kind of disrespectful to how Madonna intended her album to be. Just saying...

Why Batuka??  Hasn't she promised us a music video for  Faz Gostoso?  I wanted a visual for Extreme Occident too..Anyway, perched to see what she has in her basket this time😍

She didn’t promise anything and in fact, Anita’s spokesperson said that there’s nothing currently in plans. I shared the source before but was shut down because my source was from a Russian website. Whatever! Personally I want Faz Gostoso video, but I’m not waiting for it because there is no official confirmation.

Yeah, from my experience, the ones that nitpick EVERYTHING indeed ARE the biggest fanatics.

Fans don't get pressed about silly things. Just sayin...

Agreed! There are “fans” out there who think that THEY are Madonna and that she needs to conform to them and their expectations because they “own” her. It’s a mental retardation if you ask me. These morons walk around dictating what she should or should not do! Leave nasty comments on her social media and so on. Really cannot grasp the level of this delusion! Like, you are not Madonna, you don’t own her, she is her own artist and expresses herself in whatever way she wants!!

I don't understand the hate for Batuka. Or the dislike. It was an obvious stand out track for me from the very first listen. Apart from being a great song, it is also a love letter to Africa.

Exactly!!! I don’t get how anyone can dislike it. It’s EPIC!! The best of Madonna’s most creative side. I fell in love with it on a the first listen. The drums put me into a trance and then her voice and the lyrics, just pure MAGIC!

The dropping names just killed it for me. The rest is cool.

Same here. Like I seriously couldn’t care less about Prince or Aretha, as much as I respect them as artists. But no, we don’t need them. We’re fine to just have Madonna with us! Avicci is the only one I miss out of all the ones she mentioned and that’s no shade. Like, I’m speaking from my personal stand point. To each their own. But this killed the song for me.

My mom was such a big M fan too... Madame X is the 1st album she won’t listen.

My prediction is that Future (I’m sure she would have love that trumpet as much as I do) and Crazy would have been her favorite... 😊

Sounds like you had a great relationship with your mom! So deeply sorry she’s gone 😞
