  1. Nice stories guys! Mine may not be as exciting as I became a fan in 2000 when I was 11 years old.

Actually I always liked some Madonna songs as my Aunts and uncles play them a lot, especially my eldest Aunt who is now 50 yo.

But it was by year 2000 when Music was released that I became really interested in her as there were lots of TV specials, documentaries, videographies, etc and I was very impressed to see all of her work, and all of her reinventions. Then I started to read more about her in the internet and was getting more and more into her. Plus Music and Don't Tell me were everywhere in the TV and on the radio so by January 2001 I decided to get my first Madonna album and it was not Music, it was Ray Of Light because a friend of mine had Music and he was going to "burn" a copy for me, so I told my parents to buy me the CD, by the time Madonna wasn't seen as the whore of satan anymore :chuckle: so there was no problem. The next year a female friend of mine got the Drowned World Tour DVD and I was blown away! I had never seen such a show and then GHV2 was released and my friends got it so I asked my aprents for The Immaculate Collection CD. After that my friend and I managed to get a few albums each one and we made copies for each other (don't blame us, we were kids and couldn't afford all the original copies) and after 2 years we got all Madonna's discography from the first album to American Life. I miss those good old times.

  2. I don't understand why they added the "Vogue" lyrics/sample to "Holy Water". It adds nothing to the song and doesn't really fit lyrically. :/

I think it fits but people don't get it. The line says "ladies with an attitude... strike a pose, there's nothing to it" which means "get in position and let your lover taste your holy water, there's nothing to it". At least that's what I understand :chuckle:

  3. I didnt need this article or any big name celeb, singer etc...to say that Madonna absolutely has a fab. SOULFUL voice! I adore it. I loathe all the sell out big diva voices like the Celines, Mimiphants, X-Tina who are contrived and over use their voices (which are 'technically' good) but so are thousands of other non famous people! lol. For me it's all about the song, music, production and the sincerity IN the voice. Mariah has a soulless, hollow, insincere tone. I find her, her voice and music repelling lol. While I didn't care for a lot of Whitneys music, she, along w/ Barbra, Chaka, and even Diana Ross are more similar to Madonna far as sincere passion and soul/pain in most or all their songs.

This! Whitney performances were well above Mariah's, even though all the oversinging and melisma in some of this so called big diva voices annoys me.

  4. I agree, Madonna is just able to emote through her voice like no one else. This is why the majority of her songs are untouchable (i.e. no one, no matter how great their vocal range, can do justice to songs like Frozen or Like A Prayer).

Also, whenever someone says Madonna can't sing, I invite them to try to sing Ray Of Light without sounding like a dying cow (especially the bits at the end).

Ray Of Light maybe Madonna's hardest song, I agree. Vogue, Like A Prayer, Open Your Heart and Love Spent come to my mind too.

  5. Madonna is not famous for her voice, that's only part of the combo, she's also a great performer, she's a great but overlooked songwriter, her melodies are cacthy, she's most of the time setting new trends in music, society, fashion and performance. She may not be the most gifted singer but I agree with all of you, she can communicate emotions with her voice, besides she has a very versatile voice for differente genres and tempos. Can you imagine Adele trying to sing un upbeat song? hell no! Can you imagine Madonna singing a ballad? Of course, she sings a lot of ballads and sings them in a beautiful way and honestly I prefer a million times Madonna's special voice than that generic overused soul singer voice like Mariah, Christina Aguilera and Adele have.

  6. this interview only proves once again that:

    1. Madonna is self aware of herself and achievments, she nevers do something just for the sake of controversy, she makes statements about social issues and prejudices and that's why some basic people get annoyed, they cannot see beyond what society has taught them.

    2. Madonna is one of the most intelligent pop stars the world has seen.

  7. One of the most important newspaper in El Salvador (yeah, not the biggest market out there) has Madonna in the front page today.

    The article says:

"The night was turned on with Madonna's impressive performance of her song Living For Love, dressed as a bullfighter and her dancers as bulls she reaffirmed why she's the Queen of Pop"

There's also a caption in a picture of her being lifted up with the harness that says "The Queen of Pop conquered again the Grammy Awards, her bullfight concept and choreagraphy impressed the public"

    Here's the front page:
