  1. I guess it's not important as long as I like the songs. I've been of that belief since American Life. There were some really good songs on that album but the radio turned on her at that point. It would be great to see some of this stuff reach the general public though because some of the songs are THAT good.

Didn't someone say that they count streaming of a song on the charts now? Or did I dream that?

Whatever the case I feel M has done right by her fans with this collection and with there being so many songs I hope she releases single after single. Why the hell not?

I've heard that a recent change in Billboards formula makes streaming count for the album chart also now, not just the singles chart. I think up until recently the album chart was purely sales. I think the change will work to M's disadvantage on the albums chart, judging from YouTube views for LFL and Spotify rankings of top streamed songs.

  2. I originally thought someone from Interscope had leaked RH and WAOM, but with good intentions (maybe to influence singles choice). Now, it might still be someone from the label, but definitely with their own agenda to try to sabotage the album. Either that or a hacker as M seems to believe. Either way it seems to be driven by harmful motives. I'm amazed anyone still believes it was done as PR. Apart from the fact that a video, remixes

...remixes weren't ready, it has shifted attention from the released songs to the demos.

  4. So...... I just put this song on and after 5 seconds my older son who is 7 shouts from his room "I love this song!!!" He's only heard it maybe 2 or 3 times. And then my other son who is 6 says " yeah me too, and daddy I heard this song in music today!" Apparently the younger generation loves this song and it's spreading like wildfire. I'm thinking maybe it should be a single. ;)

That is so adorable, and great!

  5. So far we've only heard 3 REBELlious songs (Bitch I'm Madonna, Unapologetic Bitch, Illuminati) and maybe Addicted...

However, I love most HEARTfelt songs: Rebel Heart, Wash All Over Me, Devil Pray, Ghosttown, Inside Out etc.

    Yes

So far I like the Avicii songs best: Wash All Over and Devil.

    And yes again

  6. I have personally learned a lot over the past few weeks thanks to these conversations.

For example, in this instance, these songs are leaking before the official release, and the artist is asking you explicitly to not cave in and fuel the demand. These are crucial differences from what's happened before.

Also, at this point it seems certain that whoever is doing this is not a fan, but actually a detractor. Someone who wants to ruin the release of this record. Which of course won't happen, but just the thought that by listening to these demos I'm complicit with such an asshole is enough to turn me off.

I feel like this is a very worthy conversation to have. It's educational. Personally, as someone who seeked out the demos before (RH, WAOM), I am truly having a change of heart here. I now would feel like a hypocrite if I were to seek out more demos after she already went out of her way to release six songs AND she started doing promo for them.

Agree with this. I don't think it's about putting money into her coffers. Or about blind allegiance to a pop star. She's asked that we allow her to give the initial presentation of these songs the way she intended them to be, rather than as works in progress. It's about respecting the artistic process.

  7. What is wrong with caring charts? If you do not mind ok, do not want to change what others think or want to do, charts are important yes, the music is excellent, what's wrong to want to see it become a success? Charts are important yes, Madonna does not need to prove anything to anyone, but having a single and successful album only sum career and more energy and will to her want to continue. :madgemanson:

That's fine, and all's fair in love and war, etc. So yes, I'll work the youtube link, spotify spins etc. But if it doesn't meet people's chart busting expectations I hope we don't get revisionist history about how the album sucks, etc etc. (like with the prior two albums). Because from every indication so far, demos and released tracks, it's an absolutely amazing album. That's what matters at the end of the day. And besides pop music has been so full of shit for the past ten years I don't think people recognize great music when they hear it anymore

  8. Can't people just enjoy the music without obsessing about the charts? You can be not #1 in the chart but sell a lot. Besides, most #1s in the past years are shitty songs anyway with no longevity at all. Stop worrying too much and just enjoy the music.

Thank you! ROL was not a #1 album (peaked at #2), and yet is the golden standard that all of her albums are compared to. Who cares what number it reaches as long as it reaches your (rebel) heart!

  9. Devil Prays proves to me something that I have always thought. People may laugh but Madonna would make an amazing country singer as well. She puts so much empathy and feeling in the way she sings and would amaze country and western fans with her crystal clear and emotive voice. She really is an exceptional singer and does not need to shout or screech. Who else can sing pop, dance, ballads etc - so many genres - with such ease and class. Forget the divas with the huge vocal ranges - they might have bigger voices but can never match her as a singer.

I agree! I would love to hear M's take on country-pop or country-rock music. I love all of her country sounding songs thus far

  10. I would love to see a video trilogy with this song, Ghosttown and Rebel Heart. A western themed video set, since Ghosttown evokes an abandoned old west town (to me), and the other two songs have a country tinge to them, Maybe start with Ghosttown (the desolation of abandonment), then Devil Pray (the search for spiritual meaning), and end with Rebel Heart (joyous fulfillment of finding your place in the world).

  11. My second favorite after Devil Prays. Personally I would've chosen it for the 1st single.

I actually thought the lyrics sounded pretty lame when I read them, but they aren't so bad in the song.

    Love these parts:

Now you say it that you're sorry, I don't wanna know

Better face the fact you had to go

    and

You know you never really knew how much you loved me, till you lost me?

    Did you?

You know you never knew how much your selfish bullshit cost me?

    Well, fuck you

Yes!!!! I love that part also! Best. breakup song. ever.
