"Love Spent" was originally conceived by Jean Baptiste, DJ Replay and Alain Whyte as an instrumental track. Priscilla Renea later wrote lyrics for the song and recorded the first vocal demo. Apart from changing some of the lyrics, Madonna adjusted parts of the melody.
"Falling Free": Laurie Mayer composed the melody based on pre-existing lyrics. There have been conflicting reports whether Joe Henry wrote the lyrics alone or in collaboration with Madonna.
As for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" and "Masterpiece", there have been conflicting reports regarding Madonna's involvement. However, Madonna had never met the co-writers of "Masterpiece" before the Golden Globe ceremony.
I'm surprised about Love Spent and Falling Free. They seem like such personal songs.

I was at that show and in its context it was very clear she was being sarcastic. It was clear enough that I laughed when she said it. Like many things she has said and done in the past, this was controversial because Madonnas humor flies right over peoples heads.
See, this is the problem, people take one tid-bit out of an entire speech and run with it with no regard to context. It really is scary to me that increasingly people seem incapable of doing this.
I remember at that time there were a lot of conspiracy theories about Obama being Muslim, not born here, etc. It seemed to me M was being sarcastic and voiced those theories to show how crazy they were. What's ironic is after M said that, the same media outlets (Murdoch media) that fed those theories, basically started contradicting themselves so they could put M down and make her out to be ignorant. They were now essentially putting down their own viewers, readers, etc. Maybe its because we're counting down Obama's second term now, but you don't hear these particular conspiracy theories as much any more.

Even though there are other songs I personally like more, I think Rebel Heart would probably make the best second single. It would have been even better as the first single, I think it's more catchy and anthemic than LFL. I think it would have broad appeal, and I'm sure the video could be really epic. Another good option is Ghosttown, since people really want a ballad to be released.

Some of the richest, fullest vocals of her legendary career.
In one or two places it sounds like her voice breaks just a little bit, which makes me love it even more than if it was too perfect

Her use of guns on the MDNA tour in Denver. Really, the MDNA tour has it's own wikipedia page for the controversy from that tour that people thought she would never recover from.
The MDNA tour was unbelievable. Every time a friend would start with the words 'did you hear...' I would brace myself for the next thing I'd need to defend

^^^ quite a fair article with the writer claiming indifference to all the stupid BS about M being a racist and suggesting that social media is completely different to releasing shocking music videos
I think this would have been a fair article if the author had defined what constituted success in social media in objective terms. Is it number of followers/likes/etc? Is it level of engagement (for example, percentage of followers that respond to a post)? Perhaps it's when followers (fans) exhibit a deeper level of engagement, say for example by recreating the artist's posted album cover art and sharing that? Without a definition/criteria and stats to back it up, it's pretty subjective.
Yes, Madonna was late getting on board. Partly this was due to a mismatch between the existing social networks and who she is. IG fits very well with M, and its no coincidence that she became more engaged when IG took off. Rather than spread thin across multiple platforms, I think it makes sense to focus on the one or two that are most authentic for her.
Yes she had an IG meltdown over the leaked songs. Lady Gaga has twitter meltdowns all the time. Does that mean LG "doesn't have much idea how social media works"?
Yeah her "social accounts have become a hashtag-strewn, meme-littered jamboree". So have Miley's. Does that mean Miley "doesn't have much idea how social media works"?
Where is his article about how these other pop stars don't get social media? Basically, the only thing the author is really saying is 'M is old' and he's uncomfortable with that, either because it makes him feel old too or because it reminds him that he will one day get old himself. This article is not all that much different from the horribly ageist EW article. Except, this author tries to come across as "fair" by saying he likes the new music.. in one sentence, at the very end. But he's pretty sure no one will care about that part after he's spent the rest of it telling us how hopelessly out-dated and irrelevant (i.e. old) Madonna is.
At the end of day, as someone said already it doesn't really matter what this author had to say. For one thing, M has gained followers on IG, FB and Twitter after this controversy, putting the lie to the nonsense in his article. And even if she didn't, what does it matter. because the new music is not merely "good", it's f*in great. And that's what really counts.

I've had the first line of "Miles Away" stuck in my head for days now and I don't know why. I rarely listen to it. Don't get me wrong, I like the song, but... SERIOUSLY?
(Edit: maybe it's because DP reminds me of it in some way?)
The very beginning of DP is almost exactly like the very beginning of Miles Away.

I thought the odds were on Ray Caesar for directing this video? He would certainly bring a fresh perspective, he has quite an imagination, judging from his bio. Based on his art work though I think he might be better suited for directing the DP or Ghosttown video, if that ever comes to pass.

It's a hilarious song
It is! So much fun, and perfect the way it is!

Banned? That was the last thing on my mind. I actually imagined she will perform Rebel Heart song in the Grammys, show what rebel heart means then as the song starts, the instagram pics of the people/characters with the cord will be shown flashing on the big screen while rebellll he-a-a-art is on the background.
Then after rebel heart song she will announce "ladies and gentlemen alicia keeeysss" now alicia comes in, plays an extended version of LFL while Madonna changes cstume for a big LFL event!
I would love her in a black dress showing off lots of skin on guitar opening Devil Pray and then guitar comes off and LFL begins with a choreographer rendition, full choir and all.
A little Rebel heart INTRO with the icons wearing the cords MIXED in with teaser snippets of the L4L VIDEO and videos of her career would be an amazing combo!
Love both of these ideas! She has to do a minimum of two full songs, or one full and one snippets of 2-3 songs

So incredibly gorgeous! I can't wait for the complete album! It's going to be so beautiful
Yes, I can't wait either!!! March seems so far away!

All of these people are just jealous. It kills them that after more than 30 years she's still ultra successful, not living her life by the perceived norms, she's a woman that's alot more powerful and successful than they are and still causing people to talk and think and all this at almost 60 and looking damn good while doing it! I don't get It. I see people whether male or female making a difference, fighting for the rights of all people and it restores my faith in humanity. Alot of people just want to see others fail and I just can't understand this. I guess it all boils down to them being unhappy and unfulfilled. It really doesn't bother me when people put down Madonna anymore. Negativity is Negativity and they're only bringing their selves down.
Yeah I don't understand it either. You would think people would be inspired: that you can work hard and achieve greatness. That you can persevere and continue to do what you love for as long as you choose to do it. I know I'm inspired by her example, especially at times when I'm unhappy or feeling unfulfilled - so I really don't understand the hate at all.

I just wrote an article for RantLifestyle defending Madonna and putting in my two cents. Check it out:
PS - Sorry if it seems like I'm always promoting my own work. I only share stuff when I think you guys will appreciate it!
This is a really well written and well argued article! Thank you for writing and sharing it!!

I think she looks good with the Pierre guy, but that bodyguard trumps all!!

If he works at Sotheby's I would ...
Why is she recreating W.E. ?
Anyway, I'm all for it. He's cute and not a twink.
omg that's so true, didn't even think of that! at least (from what I remember) they ended up happy at the end in the film, so hopefully, in this case too!

Social media has given too many idiots a voice and sadly after all these years, she's reading it and she's clearly affected
Joan of Arc - Madonna:
Being destructive isn't great
They couldn't say it to my face
One day I won't care
But for the moment I'm not there
I just close my eyes, and let you catch me now

Here's an article I found on a website that I've never seen before. It's written by Lisa Fogarty at Cafemom. This will make you feel good. I can't copy the article for some reason, but here's a link: http://thestir.cafemom.com/celebrities/181115/madonna_martin_luther_king_instagram
Thanks for digging this up! Whoever is on twitter, please get this out there to balance out the craziness that's currently there.

So I find out that Is Madonna's first "ever" television appearence!
This makes me so happy cause I watched this everyday and I had to have seen it. I was never sure of the first time I saw Madonna but this has to be it.
That's so cool. I can't even imagine a time before Madonna...

I love the Joan of Arc post on her IG. So appropriate since people are still trying to make her out to be some kind of cultural heretic that needs to be burned at the stake. The picture is beautiful and I hope it will used for an upcoming single cover.

Thanks for posting, So good to hear that song again, it's been a while since I last heard it... And wow she looked soooo good in the AL period.

"Madonna was Djing in Gstaad, Switzerland, according to Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano.
No news regarding her Dj set, only details on her look. Apparently, Madonna was bling-bling stunned punk dressed, and she was wearing a pheasant feather hat.The paper reports that Lola was wild dancing."

LOL Bling-bling stunned punk dressed
Is there a link anywhere now of her set? I would love to hear it!!

I love the demo for this song... it has a very "House of the Rising Sun" melody to it..
So I finally heard one of the earlier versions of this song, and it sounded very medieval to me. Like out of a King Arthur period movie, especially the beginning. Will have to check out House of the Rising Sun...

Well he has my approval I hope they're 2getha! He's a huge upgrade. It's been forever since she dated a guy who actually looks good next to her.
I like!! They look great together! M will be happy to know she finally has our approval

The bearded guy is working at NY's MoMA.
The cute guy from the MoMA garden party?
Was MADONNA as involved in music creation in MDNA as with RH?

I think the cheer part put people off. You feel goofy singing that part, even in your head, even all alone. And with other people around...its like next please!!
