  1. I wouldn't write off all the "demos" straight away because even she said that she wasn't sure which versions she should ultimately put on the album. Some of them are clearly incomplete but others could have easily been on the album.

I'm not prepared to replace the album versions with the alternate versions because I feel Rebel Heart is pretty perfect as it is. I am happy to listen to the demos in addition to the official stuff though.

I've said it before but I think she has a really great opportunity to be innovative as an artist by releasing these demos in some form. Like a "Madonna - Evolved" where she can select several specific songs and release the outtakes, alternate versions, remixes etc in one complete "package" for each and she could discuss the process of making the song and how it evolved to its final form? It wouldn't make her money necessarily but it could contribute to her "legacy". It would probably be a lot of work so I doubt she has time or if she'd really want to anyway.

Great idea! They could have done it as part of the single releases at a minimum

  2. Oh wow, auditions next week in nyc!! Flamenco dancers means we will (hopefully) get La Isla Bonita, Spanish Eyes, Who's That Girl and Take a Bow as part of the same segment as Living for Love!

It would be cool if instead of the thematic segments she instead did segments based on the musical sound / vibe, and maybe tied to a geographical element, such as:

East (Indian / middle eastern sound): Illuminati, Beautiful Stranger, Body Shop, Erotica, Best Night

West (country sound): Devil Pray, Don't Tell Me, Rebel Heart, Secret, Ghosttown

South (Latin / caribbean sound): Living for Love (reworked), La Isla Bonita, Spanish Eyes, Who's That Girl, Unapologetic Bitch

North (??? don't know what unifying sound to use for this section, but the following songs will hopefully be included): Into the Groove, Bitch I'm Madonna, Inside Out, Holy Water (a given, since there will be a pole dancer, otherwise I think WAOM should be here instead), Ray of Light

    Encore: Holiday

Also, I was on the ticketmaster site recently.. the more recent reviews for M are all five stars but her overall is still 3 stars (due to lots of 1 stars from the mdna tour). It would be really great if everyone here who has access to ticketmaster logged in and left a 5 star review for her. It's kind of ridiculous that she has a lower star rating than pretty much anyone else when we all know that her concerts blow everyone else's out of the water.

  3. Interesting article on ageism in Pitchfork. (it might be good to combine the threads related to this issue into one since there is overlap of points and discussion)

Ageism, Lou Reed's Lulu, Madonna's Tongue and Jazz Fest

By Paul de Revere, April 24, 2015 at 11:45 a.m. EDT

Lou Reed and Metallica’s ill-fated collaboration Lulu is a record we’d all like to forget exists. Critics panned it like crazy when it came out, smacking it around like negative-review batting practice. As Pitchfork contributor Jeremy Larson pointed out in a piece for Consequence of Sound, some of the hottest of these hot takes likened 2011’s Lulu to "your dad’s drunk friend reciting his self-penned erotica over a melting Reload cassette" and "bleating like a dementia-stricken uncle." In a rare 1.0 rating, this website used the word "crotchety" to describe Reed’s lyrics.

The choice of loaded words make it clear: ageism comes out when we're confronting (weird) work our heroes are making "past their prime", when we struggle to make space for their work in the now.

The art-rock legend, who died of liver disease at 71, isn’t here to defend himself but, in a way, he got the last laugh: when Reed was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last week, celebrated performance artist (and Reed’s widow) Laurie Anderson
cited David Bowie’s praise for the maligned LP. "This is Lou’s greatest work; this is his masterpiece," Anderson quoted Bowie. "Just wait, it will be like Berlin. It will take everyone a while to catch up." It’s unlikely that this will kick off a reconsideration of Lulu, but is a potent reminder of how omnipresent ageism is at every turn.

Ageism was certainly present in the way-too-freaked reactions to Madonna’s Kiss Heard ’Round the Web post-Coachella. Madonna—her artistry, like Reed’s, bred at similar New York art-and-club-world depths—seems to derive joy from causing audiences shock. If true, she must’ve been over the moon about how the highly performative kiss she planted on Drake played out.

"They're judging me by my age," she told Rolling Stone in February. "I don't understand. I'm trying to get my head around it. Because women, generally, when they reach a certain age, have accepted that they're not allowed to behave a certain way. But I don't follow the rules. I never did, and I'm not going to start."

Madonna wasn’t the only performer aging defiantly at Coachella. AC/DC headlined with their first live date in six years. Steely Dan’s Coachella exploits have been captured by Donald Fagen’s hilarious Coachella tour diaries in Rolling Stone, in which he clearly doesn’t seem to give a shit about whether the Kids at Coachella know his music or not. Fagen’s diary entries make him seem cooler than most Coachella attendees a third his age—it’s certainly a better look than WEARING A HEADDRESS or disparaging Madonna’s looks.

  4. very intriguing quote. it's from julius caesar. the actual quote is 'lowliness is young ambition's ladder', describing how someone uses humility to get ahead and then when they get there, they turn their back on those who helped them. not sure who she is alluding to, maybe brahim? but then she hashtagged rebelheart, so that could mean someone else?

love these last couple of posts from her, they're like little puzzles for us to solve

  5. Agree nobody should be forced off, that includes Glinda. Based on the few posts I read in this thread, it did seem though that mlvcpr does not really respect M, so not sure why they want to participate in a fan forum. But I don't know their fan history, so who knows. As Roland suggested I guess its best to move on from this topic. Peace, om, shalom!

  6. Glinda should not leave, you should. Your personal and vicious attacks on her are disgusting and never-ending.

I myself am sick of people like you who fill every other Madonna forum out there - who obviously have contempt for Madonna and now want to tell everyone here in essays how stupid and shallow she is. If you don't like or respect her anymore - fine but just move on.

Thank you!!!! I agree so much. The personal attacks are truly ott. That's not debate, its just one-upmanship.

  7. I had never felt that it was beneath M to work with any of her younger pop proteges. A lot of them have some good songs, and I was one of the few that really liked the Don't Tell Me / We Can't Stop collab. But it seems that all they know about and learned from M is the handbook to career longevity. I don't think they appreciate the tough stances she's taken over the years and the heat she has gotten for it, otherwise they would be more publicly supportive when she continues to get beaten up everywhere. Or maybe they do realize and that's why they avoid making any real controversy themselves, including giving her their support when she's under fire. For that reason I hope she avoids these fake posers. And that applies to the butt ugly rappers Drake and Lil Wayne also.

  8. Whichever remix she did at the Brits and Ellen is my favorite. It pumps!

Such a shame it's not available commercially. I don't understand why if she clearly loves it, yet it can't be purchased on ITunes after all that promo

The beginning of the mix at Brits and Ellen was the same, but then they were really different. They should definitely make them both available for purchase. Who makes these decisions, they could have at least charted a bit better if they sold those versions!

  9. Was always convinced LM were the worst culprits in starting agitation against her, but now M has broadened her base of hate to include young Drake girls. Give them another week or so and they will disappear. Have feeling LM will continue trolling throughout the era to jump on any questionable posts even though a lot of those kids are secretly fans.

LM need to vent for the disappearance of their MM's career, so they're going at it against M!

  10. The main thing is people are out to get her no matter what she does but when she gives them just little bit of material to put her down they milk it like their lives depend on it.

I agree her IG (and fb, youtube etc) get taken over by trolls whenever some outside event occurs that makes her vulnerable to attack (Brits, album chart, etc). But that's the nature of the beast. She can't retreat from all of these to avoid harsh comments. She'll learn to not take them to heart, if she hasn't already. But I don't think she should completely avoid reading the comments either, because that would really put her in a bubble and oblivious to all the nastiness out there. And it's not just directed at her either. Ashley Judd is actually pressing charges against people over the vicious and violent comments directed at her on Twitter because of some benign tweets she made about the teams during a basketball game. Social media culture, esp towards women, is a huge issue and one I hope M addresses in her work.

  11. The point and laugh moments were the fall and the kiss, neither of which had anything to do with her IG. The IG controversies were for the most part either over reactions or deliberate misconstruing and false outrage. People don't get her humor on IG, but usually they don't get it anywhere else she expresses it either. I think it has nothing to do with IG, but whether people want her in general to tone it down a bit or not.
