  1. AL is her only album that truly flopped. What else would drive her to do that Gap thing and that Britney thing? Erotica, HC and MDNA sold less than the big sellers of their times but not that much. AL is the only album without a Top 20 hit in the US (she barely made the Top 40) in her career so far (not counting YCD, GHV2, R&R and Celebration which were compilations). Erotica was no AL, it was a minor hit album.

Erotica just seemed like a disappointment in comparison to the massive success of Like A Prayer, Blond Ambition, and The Immaculate Collection right before.

  2. I'm pretty sure apple would prefer U2 over Madonna.

Keep in mind, Apple and U2 have had a long relationship with each other - they've worked closely together with Bono's AIDS charity RED for over ten years and they've done special band promotional editions before. This is just an extension of that existing relationship.

On the bright side, this might actually mean Guy O can devote more attention to promoting the new album because U2 is basically all set for now. They won't need to do any traditional promotion like tv performances or magazine covers because of the iTunes deal. They'll probably go straight into preparing and rehearsing for their next tour. The rest of the fall may very well be open for an extensive promotional campaign for Madonna's new album!

  3. I think it's important to remember how much the economics of the music industry have changed with the extreme decline in album sales. The standard royalty rates for top artists are usually $1-2 per album. Back in the days when a popular album could easily sell 15-20 million copies that could become a lot of money. However, far lower sales have made this a much smaller part of an artist's income. For example, let's say Madonna earns $2 for every copy of MDNA sold - with 2 million copies sold, she would've made $4 million.

On the other hand, since she's such a strong touring force she can easily make more than $1 million a night. For the MDNA Tour, that would've meant earning at least $88 million from 88 dates. She literally can make at least 22x more from touring than she does from album sales. Of course, music is still incredibly important because it's the foundation from which the rest of an artist's brand and portfolio is built from, but it's understandable that she would devote more attention to touring rather than album sales just because it there's so much more money-earning potential there.

"Madonna doesn't have an ego problem; she has a sin problem. And it's getting worse. Unrepentant and hardened from sin, no amount of make-up or photo-shop can conceal the evil in her eyes. Ensnaring millions into a web of destruction, Madonna is preparing fans for a specific event. Using biblical discernment concerning the times in which we live, and her own words, Madonna's agenda becomes clear. Learn the origin behind her deviant obsessions, and uncover the inspiration behind her best-loved songs. The 'light' she sings about is the force driving her one-woman empire, and will soon make an unforgettable appearance on earth. Whether you're a long-time fan, or haven't paid attention to her in years, Madonna's deception is finally unmasked. Is she just a pop star, or an agent of Satan? Hidden in plain sight, see what you have been looking at all these years. Truly, in Madonna's world, nothing is what it seems." - from the Christian Post
