  1. Are you for real? Political correctness run amok. Unfortunately most mass produced clothing and shoes now are made in foreign countries with cheap labor. If we followed your advice, we'd all be naked and barefoot. All the basketball and football players endorse Nike and actually take money from them. Why aren't you attacking them? Really low and classless to drag Madonna's kids into this.

  2. it will be very interesting to see whether this album will put Madonna in the category of Britney, Mariah and now Jlo..all the floppage..,it's scary.

Calm down, girl. Calm down, girl. It will all be okay.

Even if her album doesn't do that well, she will still be heads and shoulders above those flop princesses because of her ICONIC catalogue and legacy. She will always be the most successful female recording artist of all time. Even if she becomes not quite as current or relevant, she'll always be considered in a category of absolute legends with the Rolling Stones or Michael Jackson - really some of her only true peers.

  3. That's what I meant when I said personal. To me politics means more economic or foreign policy issues. To me issues of equality, women, sexuality are more human issues because they impact your relationships etc, rather than political like politicians generally deal with.

In the words of the old Second Wave Feminists, "The personal is the political". The reason why Madonna has been so important and so iconic and such a political lightning rod is because she lives her life and expresses herself in her art in ways which are subversive or challenge conservative social mores. For example, a song like Papa Don't Preach or Express Yourself may ostensibly be about a young woman asserting herself against a male authority figure, but they also serve as anthems for independence and equal rights. Remember in Music, the line music makes people come together, music makes the bourgeoisie want to rebel? Even songs which might just be about partying or enjoying yourself can become powerful rallying cries for groups of people. Of course, politics include economic or foreign policy issues, but I would argue that the issues of equality, sexuality, and women's rights are just as important and just as profound as issues more abstract and less relevant to the everyday person like central bank interest rates or arms treaties, for example.

  4. As much I would love a double album of M as a total stan, I actually think that one really tight, cohesive album of 10-12 songs that would be an absolute monster from start to finish would be better. Although I know she doesn't like wasting studio time, it might not be a bad idea to record a lot of songs and only choose the very best of them to go onto the finished album. For example, Beyonce recorded over 80 songs for her self-titled album and only had 14 on the final track listing. Conciseness isn't a bad thing - having as little filler as possible would make it harder for the usual naysayers to say she's become lazy or irrelevant or too creatively self-indulgent.

Besides, when she's in her early 100s she can finally release all of her unreleased material and demos as the most epic box set ever.

  5. I definitely agree that it would be awesome for her to tackle the ageism thing head on! At this point, since very little is really controversial or shocking anymore, I think what it would be great for Madonna to do is to really create work with meaning. It seems like she's really gone in this direction recently with Art For Freedom and speaking out about censorship and political repression like with Pussy Riot in Russia and Marine Le Pen in France. Speaking about this in her work would be a great way to attract attention and remind people that she is still a very relevant recording artist with an important message. I remember during one of the MDNA promo interviews she said that she was still working so hard not because she has anything left to prove but because she had so much more left to say, and I think that's really going to be present in this upcoming era.
