    "Dress You Up"

You've got style, that's what all the girls say
Satin sheets and luxuries so fine
All your suits are custom made in London
But I've got something that you'll really like

    [Chorus:]

Gonna dress you up in my love
    All over, all over
Gonna dress you up in my love
    All over your body

Feel the silky touch of my caresses
They will keep you looking so brand new
Let me cover you with velvet kisses
I'll create a look that's made for you

    [chorus]

Gonna dress you up in my love, in my love
All over your body, all over your body
    In my love
    All over, all over
From your head down to your toes
The 4th and final single from the Like A Virgin album finds our lady comparing her love to luxurious clothing which was a perfect metaphor for someone who is a fashion icon. This song landed M on the PMRC's (Parent Music Resource Center) "Dirty 15" list in the 80s along with other dirty ditties such as Prince's Darling Nikki and Cyndi Lauper's She Bop (See complete list: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2012/06/pmrc_dirty_15.php )
Actually though the lyrics are suggestive, I don't find it all that explicit even for it's time but I think Madonna was a target mostly because of her live performances and revealing outfits. M actually has no writing credits on this song - it was written by songwriters Andrea LaRusso and Peggy Stanziale-but she really sells it and delivers the innuendo in the song's lyrics perfectly.

Hey Mister DJ, put a record on
I wanna dance with my baby

{Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like to boogie woogie?
    Do you like my acid rock?}

Hey Mister DJ, put a record on
I wanna dance with my baby
    And when the music starts
    I never wanna stop
    It's gonna drive me crazy

    Music, music, music

Music makes the people come together
Music makes the bourgeoisie and the rebels

Don't think of yesterday and I don't look at the clock
I like to boogie woogie, uh uh
It's like ridin' on the wind
    And it never goes away
    Touches everything I'm in
Got to have it every day

Music makes the people come together, yeah
Music makes the bourgeoisie and the rebels

    Hey Mister DJ

{Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like to boogie woogie?
    Do you like my acid rock?}

Hey Mister DJ, put a record on
I wanna dance with my baby
    And when the music starts
    I never wanna stop
    It's gonna drive me crazy

    Uh, uh, uh

Music makes the people come together, yeah
Music makes the bourgeoisie and the rebels

{Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like to boogie woogie?
    Do you like my acid rock?}

{Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like to boogie woogie?
Do you like my acid rock?

I think a lot of fans were concerned when they first read the lyrics to this song especially after the soul-searching lyrics on ROL . "Do you like to boogie woogie?" and "Hey Mr. DJ put a record on" didn't seem very thoughtful or ground-breaking. But then the song premiered and it all somehow made sense and was so instantly pure Madonna pop at its best. The song managed to sound both nostalgic and futuristic at the same time and was like nothing else on the radio at the time. This song is so anthemic and it's not hard to see why it became such a staple in her live shows. The song's message of "Music makes the people come together" is so simple yet so universal and true. Just look around at any concert or music festival and you see music as the universal language bringing people together from all walks of life - magically breaking down boundaries for a couple of hours. It has transcended beyond being a song about partying and having a good time and that is the mark of a true classic.

Favorite Lyric: Touches everything I'm in, Got to have it every day

    Favorite Musical Part: The outro

Favorite Vocal Part: The repeated "Music" before the first chorus

    Favorite Live Performance: DW Tour

One Word That Sums Up This Song: Unity
