Well. There’s a fine line between a concept and a gimmick. And i think this is one occasion where the eye patch and the “x” all over the place could’ve been given a rest to let the met gala aesthetic shine. Too much going on there...There are ways to remind people that you have a new album coming out without beating them over the head about it.

She did that already with Rebel Heart at the Met Gala. She should just go all out like Macy Gray.

I love the eye patch as well. Its a character for Madame X. David Bowie did it. I love it when M is theatrical. Dita gold tooth. Its over the top and I love it. She looked so iconic in medellin video and artwork for album.

That was the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s. This is 2019 and these things have been now done to death. They are now seen as gimmicks not innovation. I love Bowie and Dita but S&M Cha Cha instructor and Cowboy Bride don't work anymore. Cravedonna does. Bitch Madonna does. Styled perfectly and no gimmicks in sight.

I feel like she been going overboard with her styling lately. The grill, the eye patch, the armor, etc. If I, the viewer, find it distracting and clunky, how must she feel? I think it's all distracting her but she's going with it because it fits the look she is going for. Unfortunately, it might be affecting the performance.

It's also putting up a barrier between her and the general public. They just see someone trying too hard then it gives them fuel to bash her about her age and retirement. The Madame X theme is good but if had been done in a more natural way then people would find it cool and not someone dressing up in costumes trying to get attention. The armour we saw already multiple times, the grillz since 2011, the eye patch looks like a Kill Bill knock off. Strip it back, give us a femme fatale camelion who can cut a bitch, not a fucking cha cha instructor with a slap head wig (Andy should have been fired for that) who magically becomes a blonde bride in a cheap looking wedding dress and that fucking eye patch. I want to see more of the Crave Madonna, cool, edgy, stylish and fucking awesome. This look is how you do style perfectly.

I think she needs to be challenged and passionate about what she a doing. If she made it simple, made it banal, made it easy then she wouldnt do it anymore...

Yeah but you can be passionate about your work but you don't need gimmicks. The eye patch doesn't work and certainly not during a performance. The grillz limit her singing and you can't even see them on the TV. You can be stylish and have a theme (see Confessions and MDNA) but when you overdo it, it becomes a bit tacky (see Hard Candy boxer). Ditch the patch. Ditch those fucking grillz. Long live the Queen.

Someone said she uses something to kinda isolate the vocals when she critiques them.

I do notice on the original vocal (and absent on the new) that there's some sort of effect going on during LAP,  it's not a backing track but some sort of echo type process going on in the background which could possibly be this "live autotune" that some people use and if done improperly can make the whole thing sound even worse.

Yeah I think she uses the echo all the time now and didn't know the coach isolates the vocals. I thought she just watched the performance from a dodgy stream. This makes sense...

She's a vocal coach and not a detective to spot perfect lip-syncing. She said the Vogue vocals were great and that's right. She said Madonna didn't hit one note on Like a Prayer and she is right again. The woman is a Madonna fan and praises Madonna if she delivers good singing (Sooner or Later).

Don't get me wrong, I really like the woman, she is lovely and I subscribe to her page. But come on a vocal coach should know a live vocal and you can clearly see in the video she's lip syncing.

Did anybody  note that her esc performance is trending 1# im youtube germany right now?

It's also got 1.5m views in 23 hours and about 300k in the last few hours. The Crave audio video has the same views and this has been out for 10 days. Will these numbers count towards Like A Prayer and Future?

She shoulda just lipped to a fake "live" track like before. No close ups to give the game away anyway. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was under the weather. The rehearsal clip was just as bad if not worse afterall. The minute we heard them all laughing at her we knew something was up.

It's not what she says really, it's her overall reaction,. It's so similar to what so many of us experienced sitting there with friends, family etc. A collective "OH DEAR"

Sorry I should clarify I didn't mean her opinion was distorted. The video she was critiquing of the performance was very low res and did sound like it had autotune on it due to that Limewire mp3 0.5mb effect. She sounded like she was underwater. I don't think she was actually see the proper performance as I could hear absolutely no autotune on Like A Prayer.

Can I say that while Ive loved Megans choreo for the MET and for Medellin video, i didnt LOVE it for Medellin BBMA or for Eurovision? They are okay but not amazing. It all looks a bit rushed put together.

Anyways, love this era. Love what we have in store. Loving the music, the visuals

There a lot of things that look a bit rushed in this era. She filmed for months all this footage and then she filmed two music videos before the release of the singles, one of which has not even appeared yet. Eurovision performance had bad choreography, was clumsy and looked like it was last minute decisions, Quavo looked like he had no clue what he was doing. I even think the JPG costume was still being sown at last minute then he just chucked some netting all over it. Medellín at BBMAs was fun though but again didn't have that oomph it needed. I think the collaborations with Swae Lee and Maluma were last minute and were to get a hit but at least thes e have had great outcomes! Where the fuck is the Crave video? Nuno is too busy documenting behind the scenes

Just listen to this poor woman (who represents all of our friends and family who tuned in to see Madonna) listening to the unedited version of LAP. Preferable with headphones.

Then maybe we can all collectively ask ourselves what the fuck is going on with Madonna's voice?

I watched this and the video she posted of the performance was so distorted. I usually like vocal coach but she isn't a great at observation. In her Madonna Best Vocals post she failed to spot that the performance of Frozen was her miming to a backing track. So she's not that great in my opinion!!!?!

  11. Embarrassing

    Boring

    Weird

    Awful

    Excruciating

This is the description from people I know on Madonna's performance. And every one of them was so looking forward to it. None are diehards fans, but all like her. This is what people are thinking about the performance and we just need to move on from it. We need to wake up from a fuzzy dream and hope and pray she delivers some killer performances in the upcoming weeks to make them eat their words.

  12. She needs to get her ass on a show pronto and sing live with the voice we love. No gimmicks, no theatrics, a great song, a great performance. Give a big fuck you to those who say she can't sing. Then she needs to sack her team, get new management and stop having all these Yes people working for her. She needs a CAREER REVOLUTION.

Klein, Oseary, Kevin, Megan, JPG, Rissman, Nuno, Jamie and that fucking Danny Tull. FIRED!

Lol the way the Youtube commenters are going in on her video you would think she strangled a cat and took a shit on the stage.  Social media gives a an anonymous power to say the vilest shit you can without any consequence.

Do we know where she is atm?

I watched the Honest Vocal Coach and her opinion as she is usually good but that video she posted was distorted to fuck. It sounded like a low res Limewire mp3! Man I know Madonna was pitchy but that sounded like she was underwater as well.

She urgently needs a new team behind her. They need to say: No Madonna you cannot walk down stairs and sing on your own on a song which usually has two female back singers. No JPG you cannot let her wear a clunky, unflattering mess of a dress, it's not suitable for this performance. No to Megan with that shit show of choreography. No to that shit interlude which made no sense and that embarrassing blowing fire. No to Quavo who has the personality of a dead fly. Yes to the political message. Yes to the hair. Yes to the makeup. Yes to the attitude. Yes to the flags. Yes to Like A Prayer but NO to the arrangement.

I really liked the performance but I would have preferred that she has mimed instead. It's not like we got much close-ups of her anyway. What's a missed opportunity the whole thing was. But she does not deserve the hatred in the media. I bet her team showed her the YouTube version.

The million dollar question. Future never should have been performed to begin with. She needs someone around her to tell her the truth. Too many yes people I suppose.

I think it's more that Madonna wouldnt listen anyway if someone dared say no to her. She will always do what she wants. She does need new management though, like 10 years ago. Enough with the grillz, enough with the Casio Keyboard music, enough with the eye patch, enough with the gimmicks. The message was great though.

you can't defend the indefensible, this was a wasted opportunity, shes's been doing this job for 40 years and she has been singing LAP for thirty years, it's not acceptable. She had to sing 4 minutes and everything was wrong. it can happen but it is useless to distort reality

Yep. I was at a party for Eurovision and everyone there said it was boring. I don't agree with this but it was a missed opportunity and the version of Like A Prayer was dire. Loved the message, loved the flags, liked her costume, hated the grillz, hated the eye patch. 6/10

Why is he saying “no no no, wow” in the beginning I wonder...😒

Its obviously a secret recording, this maybe someone nearby talking and have nothing to do with her performance. It's such a shame she keeps going to the Casio Keyboard for backing music. It spoils this version, Met Gala and also Nothing Compares 2 U. Kevin Outoftunes needs to go...

I just can't wait she's been mentioned in everything to do with tonight's contest here in the U.K. from TV specials about the Eurovision to radio nods to the show itself. She's been in all the newspapers so everyone knows she is coming the hype is certainly there!!!

Madonna back on mainstream TV in front of an epic production dressed in head to toe in iconic JPG is just magic......I can't wait for social media to explode tonight following her performance....

I do wonder will there be a push on Future tonight on radio/as a single following its debut to the Europe/world? Is there a music video for the song round the corner.....I mean is it being treated as just an album track promotion for Madame X or is it truly the 3rd single?

Whatever happens I'm sure after tonight the streams/sales of Future will enjoy a big boost across Europe.

This is why the album should have been good to go yesterday or next Friday. Capitalize on the promotion!

It's just a rehearsal, she's not necessarily putting her all into the singing. No need for panic stations yet.

It's a pity it's the same casio keyboard arrangement though, but oh well.

Very true, we have seen many of her rehearsals where she sings minimally as she is having to coordinate the choreography, staging and has someone talking in her ear. She will no doubt be fantastic on the night as she sings this song very well (see tours and Tsunami Aid). We will get VocoderMadonna for Future as the song has that effect on her voice.

Some of us like it. You have a choice not to look.

It's great to have teasers but posting full details of costumes just takes away from the overall surprise. Also I can't miss the teasers unless I stop using IG.
