  1. Happy birthday to you!

I went to an 80s night yesterday, and what do you know - Madonna videos playing ALL NIGHT (from Lucky Star to Hung Up CT to Vogue at the VMAs), and about ten of her 80s songs sprinkled through the night.

And THAT is the Power of Madonna.

    Thanks mate :)

  2. ^ Well, S&S managed about 28,000 in its opening week. I'd imagine we'd get close to that if we are lucky. It would still be good enough for Top 10 (currently).

I think it may depend on how many formats she releases and how they chart. She definitely needs to release the normal CD/DVD digipak and the normal CD to chart on the album charts. If she releases just the CD on its own she doesn't stand a chance of charting well on its own.

  3. What's the difference between 1080p and 1080i?

1080p and 1080i are both high definition formats...that display 1920 lines vertically or across the screen and 1080 lines horizontally or up and down the screen.

The difference is the way the component sends it's signal to your TV.

1080p ("p" stands for progressive) means that there are 1080 individual lines of resolution that are all displayed at the same time, 1/30th of a second. This resolution will produce the highest quality images, BUT, the TV has to receive a 1080p signal in order to produce the best picture. Most satellite and cable companies only send HD in 720p and your TV has to "scale down" the image. It's worth noting that some TV's scale down better than others.

Blu-Ray is 1080p and some satellite and cable providers have on demand in 1080p, but as of 2010 I don't know of anyone broadcasting 1080p.

A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the 'i'), ie every other lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.

The practical difference is that 1080p will give you a much higher quality picture (the quality is noticeable, especially in Pixar animated films) and is better suited to live action, especially sports. TV's that use interlacing will tend to produce a blur.

    :)

  4. I can't imagine either of those companies turning Madonna down. She is still a legendary icon/pop star/celebrity and I think they would jump at the chance to work with her.

Emm... Madonna posts an Instagram of herself dressed for the Met Gala with a Miele vacuum cleaner and sales go through the roof and the CEO of the company wants her to head up an ad campaign.... Yes she can sell ANYTHING because of who she is!

  5. I would love her to promote the shit out of the album - American Idol, X Factor, MTV Awards (both) etc. But I am just wondering if the MDNA promotion was actually genius? She sold 1.8 million without really spending any money on promotion, so the return on that album was probably higher than say Gaga's BTW album as she only sold 6 million and she must have spent a fortune on the promotion because she was everywhere, on every TV show promoting each single. Maybe the different approach to the promotion actually worked better?

For me though as a fan, I really want the TV interviews, award shows etc. as the MDNA promo was very disappointing and lacklustre but maybe it was actually a better approach for someone who is 30 years into her career...

  6. The show without speech is 1hr 50mins, so there is no way its going on 1 disc! If they are wise, and to keep the sections together we will get:

    CD 1 (58:45)

    1. "Virgin Mary" (Intro)
    2. "Girl Gone Wild"
    3. "Revolver"
    4. "Gang Bang"
    5. "Papa Don't Preach"
    6. "Hung Up"
    7. "I Don't Give A"
    8. "Best Friend" (video interlude)
    9. "Express Yourself"
    10. "Give Me All Your Luvin'"
    11. "Radio Dial Static" (video interlude)
    12. "Turn Up the Radio"

    2. "Vogue"
    3. "The Erotic Candy Shop"
    4. "Human Nature"
    5. "Like A Virgin Waltz"
    6. "Love Spent"
    7. "Like A Virgin Waltz" (outro to "Love Spent")
    8. "Nobody Knows Me" (video interlude)
    9. "I'm Addicted"
    10. "I'm A Sinner"
    11. "De Trevilles-n azken hitzak" (intro to "Like a Prayer")
    12. "Like A Prayer"
    13. "Celebration"
  7. I bet the next box set will be a Greatest Hits Collection, like the crappy Studio Albums one with You Can Dance, The Immaculate Collection, Something to Remember, GHV2 and Remixed & Revisited. There is no way they would include Celebration though as that would be too good and they must include R&R just to spoil it as well

What we should have got is a 3-CD box set, Greatest Hits in chronological order at a fair price, it would sell much better than the Celebration mess: (this based on a 2009 release, all remastered with 8 rare/bonus tracks and 2 new songs)

    CD 1

    1. Everybody (Edit)
    2. Burning Up
    3. Holiday (Edit)
    4. Lucky Star (Edit)
    5. Borderline (Edit)
    6. Ain't No Big Deal (BONUS)
    7. Like A Virgin

    17. Causing A Commotion (Silver Screen Single Mix)
    18. Spotlight (Edit) (BONUS)
    1. Like A Prayer (Album Version with Fade)
    2. Express Yourself (Shep Pettibone Remix)

    3. The Power of Good-Bye
    4. Revenge (BONUS)
    5. Beautiful Stranger
    6. Music
    7. Don't Tell Me
    8. Liquid Love (BONUS)
    9. Die Another Day
    10. Hollywood
    11. Hung Up
    12. Sorry
    13. Get Together

    15. Give It 2 Me

This way you get a "greatest hits", "rarities" (without the shit ones crammed on to an album) and also 2 new songs, everyone is happy....

  8. Cheapens the brand. The BEDDING SETS will be next.

When she brings out a brand like Kylie at Home, I will be worried :D I think the Defend brand is a good idea but I think it's a bad idea for M to fund it. But maybe it's her brand and she is only using him as a spokesperson and she'll sit back and reap the rewards. It would be a bit of a push having this and Material Girl and Truth or Dare. So maybe it's just savvy marketing.
