It went on for almost 7 months and had more shows that the 2008 and 2009 legs of S&S combined.
The reason why MDNA didn't outsell S&S, is mainly, that fewer tickets were sold due to oversaturation of most European markets.
For instance, in 2009, Madonna played 2 sold-out shows at Ullevi in Gothenburg, Sweden, selling 120,000 tickets. In 2012, she did only one show at the same venue, managing to sell only 36,000 tickets.
Similarly, at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, she sold 48,000 tickets in 2009, but only 29,000 tickets in 2012.

THANK YOU!
You're the voice of reason. AL failed on its own merit. Failing on the charts is not indicative of a bad song, it just wan't single material (aka smaller commercial appeal). Now GI2M's total shut out in America was unjustified especially when it's version 2 spent months in the #1 spot a few years later.
What? I didn't know there was a version 2 of GI2M - let alone a well-known hit.

ok, so, here's the plan. Mensch is going to infiltrate this friend's other social circle, possibly using a disguise, and get a copy of the song for us. Sound good?

This is my first album era as a fan and I'm so excited!! Bring it on Madonna!
You're just Like A Virgin! ........Touched for the very first time....
-
I think the new album should be named "Adele."
-
I once did a Madonna choreographed dance routine during a class speech at school - when I should have been speaking about something serious.
The video that influences me the most is Nothing Really Matters because it spurred my lifelong obsession with traditional Japanese aesthetics (albeit in a futuristic way).

One does not end being dated as long there is always something going on. A U2-styled music dump probably means nothing is going on. This is why I like the Art for Freedom Project - it gives things purpose.
-
My point is to counter what others were saying about the U2 strategy of offering their new album for free: that it would have been a great idea for Madonna, too. I just wanted to suggest that 500 free downloads isn't anything special considering that causal listeners of U2 (such as myself) may not care. That such a strategy for Madonna would probably yield similar apathy. I'm just thinking out loud sharing opinions like everyone else. I merely lauded to free MDNA albums as an example - I wasn't trying to be a dick.
-
^I don't mean to make dumb generalizations. All I'm saying is that whether it's U2 or Madonna, casual listeners always care mostly about older hits - unlike dedicated fans. And, thus, giving away free albums like U2 now and MDNA with tickets doesn't really help promote new singles.
-
^yes, it was. There was a one-second clip of lucky star right before TUTR and the casual fan next to me nearly shit herself with excitement when she heard it. That's what I mean. She went there to hear the oldies and even though she got a free MDNA album she still didn't care.
-
Ticket holders to The MDNA Tour were given the option of getting the alum or not, and guess what, people still didn't care to listen to the songs. They just went there for Like a Prayer and Lucky Star.

i couldn't name any new u2 songs from this decade. when will we hear solid news about this madonna album such as the title and release date?
That's what I'm getting at. Most people couldn't name any Madonna songs since 1989. Releasing a free album in such a way doesn't really help promotion-wise.
-
You're still going to get the record whether you want it or not lol.
I'm going to file a restraining order against U2 to stay at least 2gigabites away from my iTunes library.
-
Apparently it will take some time before it appears in all users' libraries. After all, it's half a million users.
That's just it- I already don't care.
-
So, out of curiosity (due to this thread) I checked my music library and iTunes. I had to look for U2 in iTunes where it says that the songs are already purchased. But nothing shows up in my library. So I don't care - so much for the promo. #lame. I'm glad madonna didn't do this.

I pray to the heavens that Madonna is the new voice of Siri, the way Joanna Lumley is the voice of some GPS

The new album will be an in-house sound installation only available to people visiting HC Gyms across the world. An MDNA Skin dispenser will welcome each guest in the audio-installation room.
That's actually pretty cool.

Hmm. I think MDNA is considered her comeback album. She was quiet for 4 years. However the general public probably saw Madonna for the first time in 10-15 years at the Super Bowl. MDNA was also her first album post new gen pop stars, post social media, etc. I don't think that comeback is defined by having spent time away, I think it means, "what success have you had lately," and M hasn't had much.

whenever I force a friend to watch a performance from a concert, or whatever, I feel pride knowing that they surely must realize that no other artist comes close to the amazing ness of Madonna's shit. "You can't touch this, motherfuckers," as she once said.

At the risk of sounding crazy: I just intuitively feel that it would be weird to release an album this year. It feel too soon in some way that I cannot fully explain. For one thing: I'm still listening to MDNA. I need to get that out if my system first.

Put your arms around me,
If it gets too hot we can go outside,
But for now just come here,
Let me whisper in your ear,
An invitation to the dance of life.

I agree, those interviews are SO boring. I really want journalists to talk more about the music in future interviews, let's hope some of them will be smart enough to ask the right questions.
The Larry Flick radio interview for MDNA was pretty good and music-based.
New Album thread: Guy O talks rubbish; M&M cover art rumours?
