  1. I wish she was more rewarded, but I guess I'm pleased that my two favorite albums of hers: Music and Ray of Light were highly nominated.

At least she had a few noms in the 80s, it seems the music industry was much more competitive then it is today. It seems the best singers/musicians are outside the mainstream nowadays. It seems almost gross how Taylor and Gaga can be nominated so many times in so many years. Highly damages the Grammy's credibility in my opinion.

Think it's totally true Madonna's competition for awards was very challenging back in the day.

Grammys appear to be definitely kissing some artists butts except for maybe Nicki Minaj since she's always accusing people of racism and being privileged when she's looked over for these dopey things.

  2. ^Honestly, don't know any stats about an increase in violence against muslims in US (hope not true), but Trump's purposely ignoring how well American muslims have assimilated in US. It's just shocking that he and his team don't care to learn any new skills on how to work collaboratively with diverse populations instead of making people very defensive and pissed off.

Also, right wing politicians continue to demonize certain identities and demographics because it helped Reagan and both Bushes to get elected, but that kind of rhetoric is not as powerful anymore in wide segments of US population.

  3. Trump really help ruin any reasonable and productive discussions people can have regarding mass migration and open border policies from specific regions. His over the top rhetoric forces some people to take polarizing positions on both sides of the political divide, and is a great propaganda tool for the radical side in islam.

Hate over the top PC language police that shuts down uncomfortable dialogue by constantly calling people racists, islamophobic, homophobes, etc, but Trump takes it to the extreme and does not seem to care how words do matter and have consequences. Can't believe in 2015 he refuses to recognize how awful and destructive it is to alienate a certain percentage of US and world population. His narcissism and grandiosity does remind of past and current world tyrants. :scared:

  4. I hope he wins the nomination.

If he doesn't, I hope he runs as an independent. He can take at least 5-15% from the Republican candidate.

It will be really interesting to see if he wins the nom or just runs as an independent because he's even pissed off most mainstream republicans and fox news (surprise, surprise) with his latest muslim statements.

Know you're out of touch when even conservatives call you a bigot.

  5. Not completely sure, but it seems like in some American feminist academia, Madonna is seen as a women who benefits from underserved privilege (white skin) and engages in cultural appropriation (which drives some people apeshit).

Do think that at the same time Madonna is highly respected by many in gender studies.

Beyonce is viewed as a very strong black woman who subverts notions of white patriarchy and institutionalized racism which is believed to be rampant in US.

Think Beyonce is an amazing role model for black and brown women, but she's not nearly has complex or fascinating to figure out like Madonna.

  6. Bey and gags might be part of all the rage in some university gender department these days, but M has been fascinating in the way she expresses and navigates hot button issues related to masculinity/femininity, religion and sexuality, ageism, etc. She'll continue to push societal boundaries even though the dopey media downplays her cultural relevance and impact on other female artists.

  7. Even though love M to death, her documentaries from tours are not so interesting besides amazing TOD.

Admit live footage from IGTTYAS is fantastic though. Makes you wish for official RIT release which will probably never happen.
