well, why is 4M doing so well if people don't like it? well... people DO like it... just not madonna's "core audience". an RnB audience likes 4M, but that audience just don't buy madonna albums... apparently. they might buy a single... but not a whole album.
perhaps, since GI2M is a more typical madonna song... it might bring her core audience back home... and give the album legs. i guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I agree 100%. It's the only way to explain huge single/ so-so album sales. The single is doing so well because it's appealing to people who know they don't want to buy the album... once "Madonna" singles are rolling out her casual fans will come around... let's just hope for some airplay!

She shouldn't do it every other month... but she should do something...
and that ICON status thing worked in the 90's/80's... times has changed... she's still an ICON... but I truly believe people nowdays has to work harder to stay on top... the music scene is so fast moving...
With most money now in touring she is on top. The album will sell and if for some reason it doesn't, you'll see her get her ass on one of these shows.

I thought artists wanted new fanbase too? and wanted to reach out to more people just than the regular fanbase?...
and nope... not everyone who likes her (except for the more hardcore fans) knows she has an album out...
Confessions did very well in the US and Madonna didn't do much for that, AND she had no radio support (which she has this time). I feel there is more awareness for this album than any since Music.

But it's not like Hard Candy has no promo at all! You act like Madonna put out Hard Candy into shops without any notification. The digital sales of "4 Minutes" alone contradict that! She already made sure that MANY people know about it!
There is online promo, there are the promo gigs, Sunsilk commercial, all the mag covers... And I think Madonna actually uses the tour to make people hear her new music, and she probably considers that as a better "work" than going to American Idol.
If Madonna went to every big tv show on the week of April 28th and May 5th, she'd obviously have bigger opening weeks, but then fans would start complaining that "Why did Madonna stop promoting the album?!" or "Why isn't Madonna performing "Miles Away", the 3rd single on Oprah?!"...
It takes away from her ICON status a bit if she's on Oprah and AI every other month like she's some fly-by-night American Idol winner or Mariah Carey.

It will most likely fall, as there's little radio play and sales are slipping. They were hoping for an instant #1 after she sang it on AI and Oprah but that didn't happen.

4M certainly sold a lot more than we thought it would.
I would predict 430+ except for music sales being what they are today making it difficult... 350-400 is most likely I think.

I was at Best Buy this past Saturday and saw this guy buying that bought 10 copies of the album. The clerk asked him why he was buying so many copies and he said "It's a long story". Personally, I was amazed.
Long story: If I don't do this, MARIAH WILL KILL HERSELF.

#1 with 425,000 if not more. I think some of the teens that never bought her, esp. during the first week will be out.
So many of the positive comments I've seen written about the 4M video on whatever websites are streaming it are obviously from kids... it's so odd to see... I wonder if today's parents would be OK buying their kids a Madonna CD with that cover?

If she actually had promoted the album, maybe the sales wouldn't have sucked! Stupid bitch. I bought it. I love it. But, I'm less than thrilled with the attention she gives US fans. Oh, well. Don't wanna see her waste her time anyhow.
She was on Ellen and a number of other shows, pretty good promo all things considered.

Madonna tends to promote when she needs to, like if an album isn't selling.

I would think it's already slated Madonna will be on Ellen, I can't imagine she's just freely promoting the song with no confirm from Madonna that she will show up.

Madonna knocking MOOriah out of #1 in the US would probably cause a Lamb mass suicide.
I don't know about the lambs, but I'd be nervous if I were a plate at Hello Kitty Manor. Regardless if they get broken, or eaten off of, they are in for a rough week.

the big difference is their icon calls for it...
another difference is Mariah calls in the troops for things that cost 49 or 99 cents while we all come out for 300-500 dollar concert tickets.
