  1. Madonna has thanked her fans in many of her award speeches. I think we've scored more thanks than any husbands or family. I can't even read the Hard Candy writing on the last pages to know if 'i' got thanked.

A lot of what you guys complain about here day in and out is stuff that she has nothing to do with. Hundreds of people work for her and of course some of them are going to fuck up.

As for Madonna vs. Mariah in the fan treatment dept., Madonna pissed off some fans at an American Life signing for having to leave at a certain time and not getting to everyone. To make up for it some of those fans recieved a copy of that gigantic x-static process book (which cost $100s). on the other hand, Mariah showed up to her signing late and didn't sign for half the fans- who got squat. Nither of these woman give a shit about you or I personally, because they do not know us, Mariah is just fake enough to make it seem she and her fans have love-ins. Don't kid yourself that one cares more than another.

  2. War In Iraq-Blame Mariah!

The Economy Is Down In The U.S.-Blame Mariah!

    The World Is Ending-Blame Mariah!

Lets blame anything that goes wrong in the world on Mariah.

 Come on now, I don't like Mariah either, but lets be fair. It's ridiculous to blame her for Madonna's "so called" dissapointing first week sales.

If Madonna's first week looks like a disapointment its because Mariah had just opened with large numbers due to her fool proof promotion. She had nothing to do with Madonna's first week sales but played a part in making them look unimpressive. That was the chart battle people were watching, but you could also put a positive spin on it and call it the 3rd best opening of the year so far, etc. Someone with a negative spin (Roger Friedman) will mention Mariah's #s and say Madonna's sales left something to be desired.

  3. “In the past, people would tour to promote their albums; today they put out albums to promote their tours”.

Exactly. Madonna is in a fantastic position right now. It fustrating to see press and fans bicker about album sales when in the grand scheme Madonna is light years ahead. If you like numbers just look at Madonna's touring #'s compared to other acts. And in that department Mariah Carey may as well be Paula Abdul. Mariah Carey always has been and always will be smoke and mirrors. I wasn't kidding a few posts ago- the day will come where she's gloating because she debuts with 45 copies to Madonnas 26.

  4. Yes but things are different now with very little money to be made with album sales. Even when albums were selling 10-20 million acts were complaining they weren't seeing their money, can you imagine what it must be like now? A huge tour is now the equlivelent of scoring a Thriller or Jagged Little Pill in the music business. Mariah is going to do everything under the sun and her album will end up selling like an early 90's Madonna album. No one that doesn't have to stay stuck there is going to.

  5. I wish we knew what Madonna is thinking so we could stop speculating, but it's possible she would rather save the Oprah sort of promo for her albums with Live Nation (where she'll have more to prove and more $ to make)... or maybe she only cares about touring (like Mariah only cares about #'s) and albums are just a launching pad for her fan base to come out... we really have no idea but in the end she's going to make a fortune touring this year while Mariah um... eats a Famous Bowl at KFC. That's about it once she can't move any more copies of her album. There'll be the re-release, a divorce from Nick Cannon, and that's about it til the next album. And what will sales be then? Will we be arguing how Mariah worked for her 56 copies sold and Madonna didn't to debut with 27 copies? Everything's changing so fast, Billboard may be irrelevant in a couple of years. I feel like I'm stating the obvious but if you look over the past year it's clear that touring is priority #1 for M.

  6. She toured for American Life w/o a problem. And by the time of her next CD who knows what a hit CD will be selling... I don't think any of this is an issue, except maybe what someone said about her touring a lot. But even if say the UK and US get burned out and the writing is on the wall, she could just go to other countries.

  7. she just needs to release good singles. this way, after say, the third single, there maybe non-fans who'll say "hey, i like all those songs...let me just buy the album." like fergie. nobody really wanted to buy the album just for London Bridge but after 5 singles, its sold over 5 million!

Right. I think this can happen here too because it's a good album. 4M selling so well makes me think there's a lot of people interested in that song that don't want to buy a Madonna album (and they would be right because the rest of the album does not sound like it). I don't really remember but I'm gonna guess Take A Bow was similar- big single for a different audience that didn't translate much in the album department. If Madonna promotes 2nd single and US radio plays it, it will go a long way in making this album sell over time.

  8. Really...How is this doing American Life numbers!? I really dont get it. I know the market is down, but geesh.

I don't think American Life's first weeks sales were terrible, the album just PLUMMETED off the charts right after, which is what killed it. Hopefully HC will stick around for a bit.
