Please let Oakenfold be nothing more than a rumour. I'm not against a remixed (new and / or classics) collection in principle, just not him, Tracey Young, Thunderpuss, Calderone, Rauhofer or any of the other usual suspects bar Stuart Price.
Warner's are in a tough position with this GH. I imagine they want their, now finite, Madonna catalogue to have a long shelf life so I can't see them releasing the definitive, unadulterated, career spanning, collection (not any time soon anyway). However, they do need a product that will sell to both the mass market and the fan market, striking that balance in one product is tough.
There was talk last year of a number ones album but this misses out some of her biggest hits. Unfortunately, that's how I imagine her Warner releases will pan out in the future, themed and re-jigged; we'll be drip fed and milked at the same time.
In a perfect world I like to see various versions; a double CD edited highlights for the mass market (the market they really want to sell to); a fully comprehensive singles retrospective (on however many CD's that takes) for those that want all the singles but aren't necessarily crazy loons; a collector's edition with the singles collection and a rarities bonus disk; an obscenely priced super limited edition with something properly rare along the lines of the X-static Process book and the Erotic CD.
I want a long, considered essay about how fabulous, misunderstood and important M has been and a write up on each track by its collaborator and / or M (revealing the song process and unknown facts please). The pictures included should be the original track artwork or unseen images from the video.
The design should be simple, unified and considered; each version beautiful as an individual piece but when presented together they reveal something hidden (like a lyric, picture or logo). I can't decide if a new photoshoot is necessary or whether it it would date it too much.
In addition to the regular digital release, there should be a special edition where you receive something physical in the mail (like a USB stick and booklet).
Don't get me started on the video release.

Unbelievably he was a homophobe though didn't he work with the mighty DIVINE?
Yeah, I heard that...the most gay, poppers fuelled, nancy music known to man, created by a homophobe. His legacy will always be aligned with the gays, oh the sweet irony. And yes, he worked with Divine, maybe that's what turned him?
Youtube is just getting better and better of late, some lost gems to be found.
-
But 1988 PSBs is ALL about Che Guevara and Debussy
to a disco beat.
-
I'm not sure, ursaminorjim will know.. it's either West End Girls in an added layer of irony (1985 version before the ultra loons jump in with the Bobby Orlando originals) or Suburbia I think
Bobby Orlando! God, I LOVE The Flirts, Passion is one of my all time favourites. I've been getting myself reacquainted recently with the genius of Italo disco and Hi-NRG and have found some great finds on Youtube (like the below).

Thank god they kept it, its one of my ALL TIME FAVES
They better do it live when i see them in a couple of months
BEAT
HEART BEAT
It's all kinds of brilliant, isn't it? The amazing intro was a happy accident, to quote Neil "(we) asked Julian Mendolsohn to mix the song for the album. He took out the guitar because he said it was too complicated, and he accidentally wiped a bit off the track - that's why it comes in going 'beat beat heartbeat."
I love that the track was intended for Madonna OR Hazel Dean. Madonna or Hazel Dean? What an impossible choice.
-
I know it's lazy but I can't quite be bothered to read through 7 pages...has anyone mentioned yet that Heart by Pet Shop Boys was intended for Madonna?

Today's update
1 - Islands in the Stream - Jenkins / West / Jones / Gibb
8 - Oasis (I know this makes me a geek but Oasis seem to have the lowest proportionate digital sales in the top 200 singles at 21.6%, although they have released a 12" and 7")
17 - September
27 - Katy Perry
Albums as per the above update except Annie and KOL have swapped places and there's only around 1,100 between Kelly C at 2 and U2 at 1. King of Pop / Thriller 25 and Thriller are in the top 200.

AHHHRRRRR
That little update was especially for you.

Today's update
Singles
1 - Flo Rida
2 - Saturdays
12 - Take That
38 - Will Young
Albums
1 - U2 (roughly 70k ahead of Prodigy at 2)
-
After two TV appearances over the weekend - he really is OVER
Interestingly if it was down to physicals he'd be at number 2, behind Saturdays. I love the fact that U2 / Oasis etc. are faring badly in the digital single environment; bar the Miles Away debacle at least M has stayed reasonably strong in the new market.
Where does one even buy a CD single these days? I still blame Woolies for the death of the single and in turn blame the death of the single on the death of Woolies.

30 - Will Young
Albums

She's wearing a Victoria Beckham dress???

Oh, also Shontelle's at 13 in the midweeks and the singles not out for another couple of weeks...surprising.

I thought Alesha Dixon would have been dropped by now after the performance of her album but it seems she's hanging on (albeit by a thin thread). I was surprised that "Breathe Slow" has reached no. 6 on downloads alone but I see that it's been picked up by urban stations and is getting healthy rotation which might help to explain its success.
It's now at 5 in the midweeks (and still downloads alone). I went to an album playback months ago for her album and this was one of the only tracks to shine.
-
No M in the top 200
-
From a business point of view I'm surprised she's contemplating touring so soon again. On the other hand for someone who so hates looking backwards I find it odd that she'd continue the tour (even if it's revamped) so late after the last date. Everything about it seems incongruous and I hope it's nothing more than conjecture.
If it happens, of course I'd love to go but it's getting increasingly difficult to get anyone to come along at her recent prices.

Indeed and sold more the week before (she's 3% down). It's a poor singles sales week, bar Akon and Beyonce, all acts in the top 10 are selling considerably less than last week, from -3% for Gaga to -54% for Islands In... The singles market is down by 10% (physical sales down by 39%) but the album chart is looking healthier with a 21% uplift (due to a 26% increase in physical album sales, digital album sales are down 10%).
