  1. Stuart probably dislikes Pharrell's style on a personal level, but fortunately he was WAY off with his comment because Pharrell gave cool stuff to Madonna.

I found the Mixmag quote rather odd and somewhat unprofessional:

"This new record-Madonna wants to do an r'n'b record and its a tough decision but i don't think that's the right kind of record for her to make. I don't think I am the right person to do it with her, either. She's worked with Pharell and Timbaland and I think Tim is great but Pharell? I don't get it-he regurgitates the same crap again and again...."

  2. So true. People make a vote based on their personal opinion about Madonna, not the issue of this adoption itself. Otherwise the results were different. But therfore they need to think about the whole situation and this is probably a little bit too much to ask for.

Exactly. A girl at work today started to lay into her, fair enough, it's her opinion. When challenged her reaction was "yeah, well I hate her anyway". People are of course allowed to oppose the adoption on principle, and some of the arguments are compelling, but at least argue the point from an informed unbiased position.

  3. wow, very bizarre. norman mailer said something great in the esquire article he did on her in 94. it was how marilyn was loved by the public and madonna, although even more famous - his words, not mine - take it up with his coffin, is loathed. this proves his point.

But of course Pud, Marilyn was demure, warm, soft, feminine, sexy but not aggressively so, tragic, pretty, portrayed as weak and so on. Everything a woman surely SHOULD be?!! What it feels like for a girl...

  4. i do believe the tide will change because of this. the weirdos will see what good she has done by being denied. had she walked away again, so freely, it would have been another horrendous david storm.

I hope so Pud, I really do.

What really annoys me is that people sniping and judging are doing NOTHING to help the situation while complaining from their comfortable sofas, watching TV, eating their take away, wearing their nice clothes, living in a house they own etc. etc. It's SO EASY to judge but not so easy to look at yourself to see what you're contributing to the solution. What a bunch of cunts.

  5. Posted this in the wrong thread earlier

She gets the top rated score at Cunts Corner in HolyMoly, who already hate her, for this - http://www.holymoly.com/page/TheCorner/0,,12643,00.html

There are some people on there who try to defend her in the news stories but it's pointless

Holy Moly are a shower of cunts themselves. I've been in meetings with a few of them (they worked on a project for us) and they're odious.

What's really frustrating about the whole episode is that everyone's so woefully ill informed, spouting opinions based on conjecture and tabloid news reporting.

I haven't got a problem with people taking offence to what she's doing but at least argue the point from an INFORMED position, by watching her doc if nothing else. Then they would see some of the stuff she's done, ranging from buying homes for people, financing schooling to taking a small boy who's had PENIS hacked off on a five hour drive to have a catheter fitted.

There should also be a rule that if journalists are going to open their mouths on the subject they should open their fucking cheque books first!

  6. If anyone's interested...

These will probably be the Top 20 biggest sellers of this decade, give or take. Robbie Williams' chart trajectory is simply astounding, as is the fact only three American artists have racked up colossal sales this decade..

Thanks. James Blunt, Dido, Snow Patrol, David Gray, Leona, Keane, Robbie, Norah Jones, Colplay - I couldn't make up a more mediocre list. Thankful to say I don't own any of their albums.

  7. At any rate, though, I wish that Christianity is not tossed about blithely in discussions like this.

Can liberals, conservatives, pro- or anti-Madonna forumers just please leave it out?

Touchy much? I didn't cast any judgement on Christianity, I was simply asking if she would have raised the same objection if M was worshipping the majority religion, a fair comparison I think. Don't take it so personally.

  8. Wow NYPost really trashed Madonna, this article is so full of hate. The woman has to be jealous.

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/03312009/news/...es_a_162178.htm

    Stuck in a midlife crisis...

manless and well past her freshness-expiration date...

Recently divorced for the second time...

desperately seeking new ways to find affection...

Mixed-race children cry at night, waiting for parents...

But for Madonna, Americans are not good enough...

    The pop slut...

a woman with the morals of an alley cat and the depravity of a vulture...

    questionable...unhealthy doses of Madge's...belief system...

as long as her midlife crisis rages unchecked...

How a woman can write such thinly veiled misogynist, ageist crap is beyond me. Let's not even mention the barely concealed racism evident in the "article". Would she be so damning of the belief system if M was a born again Christian?

    Hateful.

  9. Granted i haven't seen her documentary, so if she is doing other things there - then that is great.

Fair enough, put aside an hour and a half and take a look (i'm guessing by your turn of phrase that you're from the UK so here's a UK based link):

    .

I'd like to discuss some of your points further, for instance going back to work wasn't a financial necessity for my mother and I'm sure Madonna has more free time in her day than the average working mother and so on. However, having shouted your own view from the rooftop, you've retreated, slammed shut the doors and nipped any opportunity for healthy debate in the bud which is slightly unfair.

  10. wow!! GO GAGA!! Shes massive right now! I was afraid Beyawnce was going to be #1 (as her physical was released) <relief> ! Looks like it made zero difference -- compared to back in the day.

Halo hasn't sold any physicals at all so I wonder if the release has been moved? At the moment Gaga is ahead of Noisettes by just over 1200 copies, hopefully they'll inch ahead by the end of the week, though doubtful (their physicals aren't that impressive).

  11. Its tantamount to child abuse to treat the rearing of children as a novelty. Either scale back on your career (ie. YOURSELF) and make them your priority, or don't bother.

In the end you want to encourage growth and stability in the country and help put in place systems that will ultimately make a social impact and change - not isolated one time deals bereft of any real progress and change.

There are a couple of points I take issue with in your argument. For instance, my mum went back to work when I was six weeks old, leaving me with a childminder for around 10 hours per day, I certainly don't feel worse off for it. Was I not her priority? Did she treat me as a novelty? Should she not have bothered having me?

With regard to supporting Malawi, encouraging growth and stability etc. isn't that exactly what she's attempting through Raising Malawi and SFK? I was initially suspicious of the K involvement in Malawi but my opinion has changed somewhat since watching I Am Because We Are. She's certainly doing more for that region than I or anyone else I know (even when taking into account the enormous differential in our personal wealth) and that, to me, is to be applauded.

  12. That hat is so Madonna doing British Colonial Chic; it's her Africa hat.

There are elements of the adoptions that don't quite sit right BUT after watching I Am Because... I think more power to her, she's effecting a real change in some Malawians' lives, changes of real consequence that I can't fully appreciate from a privileged Western point of view. She's doing so much more than most and certainly more than I've done (even when taking into account her huge wealth) that I don't feel that I'm in a position to judge her.

  13. Oh come on, I'm sure she's a nightmare to work for. She has a brutal work ethic and, I imagine, would expect nothing less from those working for her, especially if she's paying them.

A few years ago a colleague of mine was working on a TV project with Guy and went to their London house for a meeting. Apparently the staff were incredibly tense and literally jumped when my friend walked into the kitchen, thinking M was sneaking up on them!

My friend also regaled an amazing story about M berating Guy over an intercom system (I love the thought of M communicating with Guy or her staff via an intercom - what a cunt!). Midway through the meeting a disembodied voice was heard barking for Guy "Guy, I need you upstairs NOW", he replied "I'll be five minutes darling, just finishing my meeting". Two minutes later the intercom crackled and M screeched "How dare you keep me waiting Guy? How FUCKING DARE YOU!". The meeting was hastily called to an end, my colleague was ushered out of the house but not before seeing a furious M at the top of the stairs, with Guy calling up to her "see darling, it's the TV people, I told you I was having a meeting, it's OK, they're going now".

    True story.

  14. Beyonce saw big jumps on both sales and airplay charts (what an airplay move)- was the physical released, or was the 20-9 move digital-sales-dictated?

Are my eyes deceiving me, or is Circus already out of the top 75 albums?

No, Halo is still a digital release, it's out physically in April. I wonder if it was due to the video, not sure when others were playlisting it but we playlisted it last week?

Circus, the album, is at 101, just above Kelly Clarkson with Breakaway at 102 (!).
