I really donāt know about the likelihood of calling an early general election at this stage. Ā A new leader surely wouldnāt risk committing political suicide for the party based on the current polling? Ā I also canāt see the party voting against its own self-interest should a vote a no confidence be tabled. Ā The fracking vote was seen as a confidence vote and that was secured in the middle of the the utter shitshow of this week.
My guess is, if they call an early election, theyāll wait for the new leader to regain the confidence of the markets sufficiently for the polling margin to narrow and then gamble on an election to secure a mandate. But then, as with all of this, thatās pure conjecture based on a lots of ifs and buts.

Channel 4 News on top form this week. Ā First Krishna Guru-Murthy calling Steve Baker a cunt off-camera.
And then this beautiful Liz Truss montage cut to Blank Space, her favourite song.
Nadine Dorries is apoplectic and losing her shit somewhere. Ā On that note, the possible return of Dorries, if the unthinkable happens, should be sufficient reason alone to halt any plans of Johnsonās return.

Trouble with Sunak is the public turned when we found out wifey hasnāt paid tax for yonks.
Iām not sure that matters right now. This is a single issue race, the economy and nothing else.
Theyāll want to show that they have someone with a solid grasp and experience of the economy, rather than e.g. Bravermanās identity politics and immigration war or the untested inexperience of Mordaunt, Lewis or whoever else is in the running. Though Johnson, whilst of course possible, I just canāt see how theyād do it with a straight face when heās been deemed unfit for office so recently. But who know?
-
Famous last words but I just canāt see the Johnson thing happening, not so soon after being forced to resign in disgrace after his Cabinet ran for the hills. My bet at this point is that Sunak runs again and wins based on coming second last time and publicly calling Trussā economic plans āa fairytaleā during the leadership race.Ā

Donāt bring us into it!

And now the Chief Whip, and apparently the Deputy Chief Whip, have resigned over the fracking vote chaos, which according to reports saw MPs being āmanhandledā and āin tearsā in the voting lobbies.
And this is just GOLD.
The latest season The Conservatives is QUITE the watch, though feels like the writers have taken it a little far as we approach the farcical season finale.

Hmm, I've seen worse with zero consequences. Something else must be going down.
Imagine losing your Chancellor and Home Secretary in the same week? What a fucking joke.
Yes, Iād read that she was going off-script at the Tory conference and there were whisperings that she was positioning herself to grasp the poisoned chalice. Ā I mean, why you ever want to?

Thereās a difference between the Welsh and the Welsh WelshĀ i.e Welsh language speakers (like me!) from pockets of Wales deeply connected to Welsh culture and weāre certainly not pro-monarchy or enamoured by the notion of having an English Prince / Princess of Wales. I mean, we used to put stamps on upside down and burn holiday cottages -
Well, āBuild back bitterā seems terribly apt and on brand.

Had my first jab of Astra on 12 th JulyĀ and good lord at the side effects !Ā Ā I didn't get a fever but had splitting headache for 2 days straight and just felt so weak and tired .
In Thailand we are now in our 4th wave and infection rates are going up to 9,000 ++ each day with death rate at around 80 per day.
This is all due to our Government's botched vaccine roll out . Not enough vaccines. and not enough choices and if you want good ones you will have to pay for them etc .ĀYeah, I was really sick for 24 hours after my first AZ vaccine, theĀ shivering, feverish, bed soaking sweats while wearing all of my clothes in bed kind of sick. Ā I had zero side effects with the second jab.
Iām hoping that Iāll be able to visitĀ Thailand again next February / March but not holding too much hope at the moment.

I was served a pre-roll ad on YouTube the other day by The State of Israel, justifying their actions and stating theyād continue to defend themselves against Hamas. It took me by surprise, itāsĀ the first time Iāve been servedĀ a social ad by a foreign government.
I wish I knew enough to have a fully informed opinion about such a nuanced and complicatedĀ situation.

Frankly, the left will only survive if they finally understand that it's not about left or right. It's about rich and poor.Ā
Sadly most socialist parties are so part of the rich agenda that the voters are fed up.
I think the next couple of decades areĀ going to be interesting, particularly with seemingly more socially conscious youngĀ people reaching voting age, I wonder on what basis theyāll cast their votes eg economic v progressive social issues? Ā Also how will the landscapeĀ change as ageing voters (literally) die off?

Every day it's something else with this cunt. A PM with a county court judgement against him. He obviously has serious issues with money. Donors paying for his flat refurbishment, his holidays and now this. All resignation matters back in normal times of course.

The CCJ is hilarious. I would be mortified if I had a CCJ issued against me. Ā HisĀ credit rating must be worse than the countryās.Ā

How depressing, but you really can't argue with any of that. Permanent Tory rule for the foreseeable then, which would be bad enough were it just traditional Conservatism, but with this lot, we're basically talking UKIP.
I wouldn't vote for Labour again if you paid me, but then I have better, more progressive choices.Ā
Ā
Viable alternatives are a real issue. Ā I voted Lib Dem in 2010 because of Iraq and the cuntsĀ formed a coalition with the fucking Tories. Never again. Tactical voting is the only way forward unfortunately.
Also, that Hartlepool clip you shared is really apt. Ā ItĀ exposes two issues for me,Ā the lack of understanding of local v national politics and policy and the fact that you vote Labour ābecause youāre working classā -Ā without understanding or being aware of the manifestosĀ and policies that reasoning wears thin with time. Ā As does not voting Tory because youāre gay. SIGH.

Very interesting article @funkyditaĀ Ā
Excuse my ignorance as don't live in the UK,Ā but Labour must be absolutely appalling if people are choosing Boris over them.Ā Ā His response to Covid has been disgraceful.Ā So many deaths on his watch.Ā The corruption on top of that.Ā Has the vaccine roll out saved him or was he on the way to victory without it ?Ā Ā Ā Ā
Where did Labour go wrong ?Ā Is there no hunger amongst the UK people to have an alternative party that has different values ?Ā Ā Are people really that apathetic that they just accept Boris and his corrupt inept party as decision makers in their future.Ā Surely there must be some passionate people who want to lift Labour back into serious opposition.Ā Ā
Ā Every time I see Boris on television,Ā I just think how dreadful he is and how the UK must shudder to have him as his leader but he seems so popular.Ā Ā
Sorry I didnāt reply sooner. Ā I think itās a really complicated issue without a clear answer. Ā
Labour have been really confused and confusing for decades,Ā Iād say. Ā They did such a volte face during the Blair years that they lost theirĀ clear distinction, be that by building on Thatcherās legacy orĀ the Iraq war. Ā Blair, essentially their most successful PM,Ā is now seen as a warĀ criminal worth tens of millions. Ā
Historically a party for the working class, Brexit was incredibly difficult for themĀ with a working classĀ diminished by years of Tory rule that had been conditioned to feel thatĀ āimmigrants are taking our jobsā, at odds with urban liberals who passionately wanted to remain inĀ the EU. Ā Leaders like CorbynĀ and Starmer are seen as metropolitan Londoners who have no connection to the wider working class experience across the country. Ā
Theyāve also been at war with themselves for years withĀ internalĀ politicsĀ and divisions,Ā played out in the open,Ā massively hinderingĀ them. Ā
Socially too itās been tricky e.g. a Tory government (historically overtlyĀ anti LGBT) ushered in gay marriage (Iām astounded at the number of openly Tory gay voters Iāve known over the years) or the badly handled accusations of Labour anti-semitism. I also think people have become more insular and self-serving e.g. those pesky gay Tories who now happily vote Tory as theyāre not seen as homophobic. āFor the many, not the fewā doesnāt resonate hugely in a society thatās been splintered into often single issue causes.
Labour alsoĀ have a messaging and positioning problem, Iām not sure many would be able to tell you what Labour now stand for and what their key policies /Ā manifestos or points of difference are. Ā Unless theyāre able to consistently articulate their position they wonāt be seen as a viable alternative.
And so on and onā¦ -

And as for WALES, @funkyditawhat's this IĀ hear about Leanne Wood losing her seat?Ā
Ā
Loved these three together..
HUNS. Ā I was really sad not to grab tickets when they reformed withĀ Siobhan.
Yes, I read thatĀ Leanne lost her seat, at least (sort of) she lost to Labour. Ā Being from a staunchly Plaid family in a Welsh speaking and Plaid voting area, Iāll never understand the self-flagellation of voting Tory in Wales (let alone the Welsh Brexit voters from areas subsidised by Europe).
Regarding England, have to say, I mostly blame Labour for the latest shitshow, theyāve been such an imploding and aimless mess for years. Ā ItĀ feels like weāre operating without anĀ Opposition. Ā I do wonder to what extent the pandemic has oddly helped the government, irrespective of the absoluteĀ fuckery,Ā sleazy corruption and, yāknow,Ā DEATHS, their profile this last year has beenĀ omnipresent and the narrative felt like it shifted considerably after the vaccine (giving ammunition to theĀ Brexit lot and making it seem like Johnson had some kind of purpose). Ā I also wonder ifĀ the weaponisation of āwokeā and fuelling of culture wars by the socially conservative media, particularly with regards to gender, race and fucking statuesĀ has caused a doubling down of older and more socially conservativeĀ voters? Ā Add to all of that an ageing population andĀ apathetic younger voters, the results arenātĀ a huge surprise. The fear is that weāre now stuck with the cunts.
As an aside - I thoughtĀ this articleĀ gave an interesting perspective on the influence of age in the current voting situation.
