  1. I always thought queer was a separate identity altogether, referring to gender-queer people who reject the traditional male/female dichotomy. I could be wrong though

Queer is separate to Genderqueer. I like the term queer because it's less sexually oriented and allows for ambiguity, fluidity. Genderqueer is those things but more relevant to gender than sex or personality.

  2. SoS, you are in for a treat with Madonna's vocals. One of my favourite lines (with her voice) is 'I would drive to the ends of the earth for you....' in 'Bodyshop'. Very emotive.

there are a lot of incredibly emotive bits of delivery on this album, I find particularly on Best Night. I think the end of the bridge

"repeat it like a mantra (for you)/I'm in love, I'm in love" is my favourite point on the whole album.

  3. Alright, I realise this might be a ridiculous thread to start, but I'm keen to find out what you guys think.

If you could imagine (and by imagine I mean fully fantasize about it!), Madonna recording ANY record by another artist, what would it be? Now, you have to imagine this world in which the existing record by the original artist ceases to exist and that it was one released in an actual Madonna era. (We can dream right?) And why?

For me it would be, without a doubt....

    Lead single: Indestructible

Robyn is so obviously influenced by Madonna. I love this album's assured energy, it's very reminiscent of Madonna's earlier pop records all the way up to Confessions.

I would love to hear M sing Indestructible

    I'm going backwards through time/

  4. I know I shouldn't have listened to the demo, but I would not listen to JOA in its final form anyway - so, I'm not missing out. The added changes in production take away from the melody of the chorus. The changes are unnecessary. It has lost its meaning now; it breaks the poetry of the lyrics. It's the only final song I don't like. The demo is one of the greatest songs she has ever sung, and they sodomized it.

I'm with you on this, I adore the demo it is so honest it's almost Oh Father level, this is closer to to Have and not to Hold, which is beautiful but...

I saw Morcheeba a few years ago and they pulled punches at the end of the set before doing the most beautiful first encore, just Skye and a guitar, before blasting off again for a second encore (they did Music!) and I can really see Joan Of Arc as a first encore after Living For Love

  5. I completely overslept and didn't go into work but it was worth it! I've been rewatching and there are faults, mainly in the choreography, but she was life!

Also what the fuck comparing it to Gimme More? I get the Papparazzi comparison, but imo that is one of the best awards show performances in recent years so no shade.

I just love how happy everyone looked!

It's like she compressed the energy of the whole MDNA show into five minutes, from the dark dramatic opening, through the fun and sexuality and then to the glorious religious euphoria.
