  1. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I was never a big fan of his tracks on Erotica, in the context of the album. I think it would have been a better album, and not overlong as it as, without them, as the change of style is too jarring. Although it would have been nice to hear the songs as part of another project perhaps...

  2. Really interesting, thank you. I love reading about how music is recorded, even though I don't understand all the technical jargon. I remember a fascinating article about the recording of Like a Virgin, about all the care and attention that went into achieving the sound and the pioneering work using all-digital equipment.

  3. Since we're fantasizing, I would love a remastered album + a bonus disc of the following:

    1. Like a Prayer (7" Version)

    2. Like a Prayer (12" Dance Mix)

    3. Like a Prayer (12" Club Version)

    4. Express Yourself (7" Version)

    5. Express Yourself (Video Mix)

    6. Keep It Together (12" Remix)

    7. Keep It Together (12" Extended Mix)

    8. Keep It Together (12" Mix)

    9. Supernatural

    10. First Is a Kiss

That would be perfect! Especially the 7" versions.

  4. Sometimes 'official' lyric publishings are wrong...

Oh I see. I thought perhaps the lyrics had never been officially published because they're not in the album booklet and I haven't looked at Madonna.com. Maybe they get the intern to transcribe the lyrics with wild guesses these days as there seems to be lots more debate about the "real" lyrics of songs recently.

  5. Erotica. After reading the Erotica Diaries it's obvious that so much love and attention to detail was put into that album, from the choice of microphones, the various samples, the lyric rewrites, the fact that it was mixed to analogue tape to give it a warmer sound. It would have been fascinating to watch.

It would also have been interesting to see COAD come together in Stuart Price's attic.

    ICONIC :wow:

I also love that she did this again on RIT :inlove:

Never noticed that before. Love it!

Not sure if it was intentional, but I also love how the screens were switched off for that segment of the RIT so it was just Madonna (+ dancers) in front of a black background, like in the music video.

  7. I think Madonna has been quite influential in how people think about age. Remember when she hit 40? People were going on about it like it was the end of the world and she wouldn't be able to be successful or carry on doing what she was doing. Now, 15 years later, it's no big deal when pop stars or actors turn 40. I'm sure eventually we'll think about turning 50 differently thanks to people like Madonna, especially as people start living longer.

  8. I always felt HC was a planned out type of record she wanted to make. It was an homage to disco and funk, the '70s and '80s, Prince and Soul Train. It was fun and lighthearted for the most part but that was its intent. I never got a phoned in vibe that other fans got. I think she truly wanted to collaborate with both Tims and enjoyed their sound.

I agree. I think fans were a little hard on HC when it came out. In retrospect it had solid songs, good melodies, strong vocals, and some really funky tracks. It was also coherent and not too long, which suggests Madonna had a vision for the album. And now that Justin Timberlake has come back in 2013 with a huge hit album using essentially the same sound, I don't think the "HC's sound is so 2006" argument stands up any more. By contrast, I think most of the songs on MDNA have weak melodies, cringey lyrics, ear-bleeding production and thin vocals, and I don't think you can say that about any other Madonna album. As other people have said, I think you can hear that it was for the most part phoned-in and rushed. I have faith in Madonna that she will deliver again at some point in the future. I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

  9. The only thing I really care about is good music. I have really tried to force myself to like MDNA, listened to it over and over, but, and it pains me to say this, I just don't like it. I have enjoyed every album she's done apart from this one. So I just want a great album next time. I wouldn't even mind if she didn't tour for a while to build up demand.

  10. Totally agree. Without all the screens and other technology, Madonna would be forced to do something really original and fresh and creative in order to make the show spectacular. The whole 4 sections / video interlude / bigger and bigger screens / ethnic music / "political" video formula is getting tired now so I think Madonna will innovate next time. She set the template for a lot of lesser artists' tours in recent years so you'd think she'd want to move on from that.

  11. Oh it's a pity these reissues are of poor quality. The digital versions of Madonna's albums are pretty sloppy too. Some of them have badly scanned artwork, You Can Dance has some tracks credited to "Madonna" and others to "MADONNA" and TIC has some tracks replaced by weird extended remixes, not the original Q Sound versions. It's a shame as many people probably buy her albums this way. It's as if they got the work experience boy to prepare them.
