  1. [Positive note] I'm confident in Madonna. She'll find the right spots or ways to promote the album throughout the year, whether tour or otherwise, and I'll be there soaking it all in. Moreover, I'll see her live. That is WITHOUT A QUESTION what matters most to me. Seeing my idol and inspiration live, in person, performing her timeless classics and amazing new songs.

[bitchy note] That her SuperBowl performance wasn't enough for fans to hold them over until the Girl Gone Wild release and that THAT is not enough until late May speaks to this terrible culture we are living in. If it were for the 18-25yo demographic, bitch would have to put out a new video every month, a new performance on a TV show every other week, and an album every year. Momentum? Didn't all this JUST happen? And isn't a tour ABOUT TO BEGIN?

    Ugh.

  2. Last one I heard was 4 Minutes at a coffee store in San Francisco. That was a few days ago.

Earlier this month, they played Vogue on the radio and Open Your Heart after hours at a pizza place.

But in San Francisco, you're always hearing her songs somewhereeee, somehowwwwww...

[And of course at the club I've heard Girl Gone Wild and Give Me multiple times, plus Jump and Hung Up lately).

  3. I would absolutely welcome a more mature album, which is where I thought she was headed after EVITA, ROL, STR, etc. I love GROWN-UP Madonna too.

I truly believe it all depends on touring from now on... For example, if Live Nation accepts taking her to fewer markets and in select venues, then she'll make the experience of going to see her next time more intimate and precious (and expensive). THEN she may think about doing a more mature album and revive the ballads of yesteryear.

If, on the other hand, we have one more tour left (if it's true that she had a ten-year contract that started in 2007) and they want to make it a farewell tour, then you can probably forget about any semblance of maturity or experimentation. She'll be doing big music to fit big stadiums.

My own personal theory - and I'm happy either way. She keeps putting great albums out and her catalogue is so vast I can crank up whatever version of Madonna I like and listen to her for 3 hours ;)

  4. Just because fans have been hearing the buzz and loving/hating Turn Up The Radio for over two months (since we first started getting reviews) doesn't mean that the general public will turn its back on it.

I say release it and make it good...

And then, as others have said here and elsewhere, sell one or two more songs that are offbeat but that with time might be appreciate---particularly Love Spent and Gang Bang.

I'd be super proud if all these were singles. It would be a nice "MDNA package" for me in years to come, as I look back.

Of course, Beautiful Killer to me should've been a single and in the standard version. But I can't imagine her doing a video for it. She's very... erm... goal oriented ;)

  5. Agree with everyone, and I'll add the "break" of "I'm Falling... I'm Falling... I'm Falling Freeee..." with the strings is my favorite moment in the album.

And now that over a month has passed I've began comparing it to Easy Ride and Mer Girl... which are some of my favorite songs ever. Which one's "better," you think?

  6. i agree with what you said about opening with a hit...it does seem to be a better move...like with VOGUE opening re-invention, i saw that show in New York and i thought the roof was gonna blow off the joint. the place was actually trembling...that said, i LOOOOOOOOOOVED Future Lovers as an opening too, but only cause i loved the song anyway, had i been a casual fan and not a nutcase fan, i would have been like what the hell is this?? but its still my fave opening of hers ever.

You guys both bring up good points... Give it 2 me could've worked as an opener and a much more interesting version of 4 Minutes could've worked as a closer. Or maybe even Like A Prayer (the tour version).

  7. There is a good week in between the first Argentinean date and the Chilenean date... and 4 or 5 days in between that one and the second Argentinean date.

I think that definitely means a short 3-hour flight to Lima, Peru, for a date or two :)

But no, I'd be surprised if she does Venezuela, unless she's planning on spending the holidays down in S. America (which is possible, since she's going to Australia!!).

  8.

I second this. Very well put. When she's gone, everyone is going to realize just how amazing this woman is. Hell, I barely have a 5 year "career" and I'm already thinking about what's next... The fact that she still CARES enough to do a great album and great tour and delight us with something like the SuperBowl is a GIFT.

  9. That last 'Everythannng' :lmao:

Truly the lamest song she's opened with. Even she looked like she was going through the motions. That should have been the toilet/beer tent song in the third quarter.

I'll have to second that. But what dramatic tour-de-force song could she have opened with from Hard Candy? I'm seriously going through the tracklist and cannot think of a single song that has the gravitas required to open a Madonna show. Except for Voices, but it would've had to be completely reworked to be more exciting.

  10. Indeed it did, although I dont remember any of us on here at least knowing that was going to be such a focal point of the tour. After all it was a photoshoot, not a performance, which was just amazing. Rumblings of it being a "thing" on tour came later, but no one could have predicted it was going to be as unique as it turned out to be tbh. We had no idea how she was going to incorporate all that imagery into a performance, with such unique choreography and staging. Nor could any of us have predicted that she'd OPEN the show with all that stuff, with a track like Future Lovers no less.

That was a real moment for me as a fan, because I remember around that time I was kinda wondering where her GRITTY & RAW side went, I thought she was slowly morphing into Madonna-cum-Kylie with the leotards and the pink, and then bam she pulls that out for her tour opening.

The Confessions era really was an unparalleled renaissance.

Beautifully written, and my feelings exactly. Although Confessions is not among my favorite Madge reinventions at all. But those first 20 mins of that tour were just pure brilliance, style and dark joy. Unforgettable.

  11. I suspect if the rumors of the Express Yourself/Born this Way mashup are true, that will be controversy #1.

The transgression section with Gang Bang should be controversy #2.

And you know that if she's doing I'm a Sinner there's gonna be some film montage that's gonna be analysed to death as well.

And if she does anything physical that will be controversial too. And if she lipsynchs. And if she thrusts against young men half her age. And if she curses.

I'll keep going in a minute.

  12. That's one of the most excellent editorials about Madonna I've read in a while. It shows a real understanding of who Madonna is and what she represents. She's breaking barriers once again, and I pray her tour is good enough so that she can shut everyone the fuck up.

  13. The British media have a problem with her but the British public haven't had a chance to hear her singles! I've heard GMAYL once on radio and I've never heard GGW. Even if she sang one of these two songs, it would still help. The current situation is there's been virtually zero promotion in the UK for this project.

Getting on the Voice would be a fantastic opportunity but I would prefer she sang something to show off her voice rather than the awful GGW.

This is just terrible, but good to know. Who would've known??? I agree that GGW should not be left for dead - people have just NOT HEARD THE SONG. Sure, a fair amount won't like it as usual, but others would. And that would be success enough.

Of course, I change my mind daily on this subject and sometimes wish she'd just really turned up the promo (wink wink) for Turn Up the Radio.

  14. I think Bedtime Story would work as Nobody Knows Me worked in RIT. Whether you consider that "proper" is up for debate---it wouldn't be live but it would be one hell of a performance.

Secret and Sanctuary would be awesome. I highly doubt she'll singe Take a Bow - she doesn't seem to have a lower register anymore.

  15. I agree that this could be a single. It's fresh, it's fun, it's pure pop. One of my favorites for sure.

And since they're all about money - why not promote a single from the deluxe version, instead of just the standard? Just like they would with Gang Bang (which does not appear in retail CDs)...

I hope it makes it on the tour setlist.
