  1. Despite the shitty single choices, MDNA really felt like a consistent era to me. We got the Superbowl, a couple of really good TV interviews throughout the year as well as the Facebook and Twitter chats. Her 1960's look was consistent throughout the 3 videos and she had honestly never looked better and we got an amazing, incredible tour that in my opinion FINALLY topped Blond Ambition.

As a fan the single choices will always be painful for me and it's inexcusable that Guy put the failed promo down to 'we are still learning,' I mean, c'mon, this is Madonna here not some brand new artist. After four years out of the spotlight you would think there would have been a lot more put into the promotion. There are still ways to promote a record even without the artist present and we didn't even get that. No TV commercials, no magazine advertisments etc. At best she could have put one fucking week aside for some radio, a press day etc. We didn't even get the live videos we were promised from opening night. They either completely miscalculated things and assumed MDNA would have been a runaway success due to the anticipation or they just simply don't care about record sales and chart positions anymore. What really stumps me is why they never use the tour interludes for the videos. To the general public who don't go to Madonna concerts they would appear as new videos, only the fans would know that they were interludes or why not film the video's in advance, before she goes on tour and then release them accordingly, similar to Erotica in 1993 when Bad Girl, Fever and Rain were all filmed in quick succession whilst she focused on the tour.

  2. Great to see her with long natural hair again. Have missed it, can't stand the tacky wigs and extensions, obviously with the exception of the GGW and MDNA poof which is now quite frankly iconic and is one of my all time favorite looks of hers, 30 years into her career.

  3. I think it had a lot to do with her public profile and the perception of her at the time. Let's bear in mind that when Bedtime Stories was released, she was still considered a slut no matter how many weeks at number one Take a Bow spent. Had she not done the SEX book you bet she would have been nominated across the board. Just look at how things turned around in 1999 for her once her image had become safer and she had gained some respectability.

More Importantly, did anyone find it weird that BS was nominated in 1996 and not 1995. WTF was up with that? A full 18 months after release. Why not a 1995 nomination?

Was she nominated for any AMA's the year she performed TAB?

  4. I was never much a fan of the DWT vocals. She sounded quite breathless and thin a lot of the time but I definately agree that she didn't sound crowy. Her choreography was appropriate and enhanced her singing for the most part whereas for Sticky and Sweet it doesn't sound like they paid much attention to her vocals as that tour was ALL about the dancing and pushing the 'Im 50 and fucking fierce' persona that she seemed to adopt. I'm glad that she lips her more dance orientated songs, it shows that she cares about delivering a quality performance. It's not about cheating the audience like say a Britney performance but enhancing it, GGW and Vogue being great examples.

  5. I just don't like this Terry Richardson. Perhaps she is not aware of his reputation, tho she would certainly be aware that he is Gaga's main photographer and is most like revelling in that fact. I have a huge issue with the way he treats people, he's almost paedophile like in the way he abuses his position to get off with young models. If I were Madonna I couldn't work with him simply for that very fact. It's a matter of principal and integrity and that man, tho a decent photographer, has no principals or integrity. The way he treats people, whom are desperate for fame and a career, for his own personal gain just makes me terribly uncomfortable. Just the very sight of him makes my skin crawl. Those women are terribly stupid and naïve.

  6. I don't know about you guys but I'm just glad she was ranked in the top 5 and that this news will circulate the globe and everyone will know that Madonna is still a force to be reckoned with. Who cares if Gaga beat her, it's just great to still see her up there after all these years and that they did take the time to mention that she was the top earner of the year. That's respect right there!

  7. I'm so shocked about how often Confessions has shown up on people's lists. I assumed it was universally loved by M fans. I've rarely read a bad word said about it on this site. It's a classic pop album for me and a classic Madonna album also. Bedtime Stories is another suprise, I'd love to hear people's reasoning on that one. Everyone has mentioned the album but only a few have actually explained why. It's easily in my top 3 and has remained there since 1994 but I've always felt it was too short and lacking something but could never put my finger on exactly what. When the demos started leaking i became amazed that such strong tracks like Let Down Your Guard and Your Honesty were scrapped from the project. She could have easily made a 14 track banging rnb/dance record that would have pleased more people, considering that's what the whole core of the project was, to get Madonna back on the charts again and back in favor with the public.

Loved reading the love for her debut. I never realized that that album really was the future of music and changed the way women were perceived in music whilst paving the way for them. Madonna has achieved this several more times in her career, most notably with her next three records and singles like Vogue and Justify My Love. Then there have been records that singular artists have been inspired by like Erotica which both Janet Jackson and Kylie Minogue were inspired by with things like the Janet and Velvet Rope album and Kylie's Where is The Feeling and Confide in Me. Then there was obviously Ray of Light which had a massive impact on the music scene for women with the likes of Cher and Kylie embarking on comebacks piggybacking off Madonna's success. She really brought pop and dance music back to the charts in 1998.

I'm Breathless took me forever to get into but that was only because i was a child and had never heard that sort of music. She kind of tricked us with that one with Vogue being it's first single and all. I assume a lot of the general public assumed we were getting an album of Vogue's with a few Dick Tracey tracks thrown in.

  8. Easily one of the best songs she has ever recorded and easily one of my favourites.

I used to listen to this and just get lost in it and wonder if there really was someone out there for me.

I met someone really special a year ago now and randomly this song came on the other day and I felt absolutely nothing, I just couldn't relate anymore and I never want to go back to how much it used to hurt when I used to listen to it.

  9. A very sore subject this one and I can't believe with everything going on in my life and all of our lives, we still think about this so often.

    Impressive Instant before WIFLFAG

    Swap Hollywood and American Life

Beat Goes On in place of Give it 2 Me but Give it 2 Me in place of Miles Away

Double A side Im Addicted or Gang Bang with GMAYL and ofcourse Love Spent, it's one of the best song's she has EVER recorded.

I remember reading in 1993 that Thief of Hearts was very strongly considered as a single but dumped in favour of Fever which did nothing on the charts anywhere except the UK.

  10. I love, love, love Sticky and Sweet.

I love the MDNA booklet photoshoot.

I hate the Blond Ambition curls.

I hate the Who's That Girl Tour.

I never listen to 80's Madonna.

I think Bedtime Story should have been a smash hit and it's easily one of her best songs.

Forbidden Love 94 should have been a single.

    I loved Evita.

I loved Swept Away and The Next Best Thing.

Runaway Lover is one of the best songs on Music.

She looked shit on the Drowned World DVD.

  11. Yes I'd be happy with an experimental record but an experimental dance record that makes people forget their problems and get lost in the music. A genre that's yet to hit the mainstream, something new, exciting and fresh. I don't want another dreary, depressed Madonna like the one we got on American Life.

  12. 1. Bedtime Story

    2. Ray of Light

    3. Vogue

    4. Hung Up

    5. Express Yourself

    6. American Life

    7. Rain

    8. Bad Girl

    9. Like a Prayer

    10. Take a Bow

    11. I Want You

    12. Human Nature

    13. You'll See

    14. Secret

    15. Fever

    16. Oh Father

    17. Justify My Love

    18. Deeper and Deeper

    19. Open Your Heart
