  1. I really hope she slays the Grammy's and looks amazing and sounds beautiful. I dont care what she sings or who she performs with I just really would like those three things. In this day and age and considering the Yeats of bad publicity we have had to endure and the monsters trashing her legacy, it would really go down well and possibly win her a new generation of fans and some much needed respect and positivity.

  2. She was definately a powerhouse force again during the Evita era. You couldn't escape her, you have obviousy forgotten the masses and masses of news print, the anticipation, the hit singles, the premieres, the Oprah interview. I could go on and on but my point being, she was absolutely massive during that era. The birth of Lola was like a royal event as was the world premiere of Evita and her Golden Globe win.

  3. I never liked this video and never understood why they released this and the timing was bizarre. Didn't this come out like 6 months after You'll See? I still bought it and supported her but I really felt like Forbidden Love should have been given a release. Why include it on STR? It wasn't even a single release. I really think they considered releasing it hence it's inclusion on the best of.

  4. I'm 30 and a fan since '90.

I remember Vogue and Dick Tracey coming out. The epic Blond Ambition controversy went over my head as I was only 6 but my parents recorded the Australian broadcast of Live in Barcelona and I recall to this day my mum objecting to her 3 young children watching the show as 'what about when she puts her hands between her legs' but luckily my Dad over ruled her and the rest was history. I was 6 and my two sisters were 4 and 2 and I recall we raced out of bed the next morning and putting the VHS on and just being totallly in awe by this naughty

woman. Mum needn't have worried as all the

crutch grabbing went over our heads, the swearing was bleeped and the masturbation scene was edited out. I do also recall the 3 of us giggling at the men in bra's though.

I remember every second of the Justufy My Love controversy, the Nightline interview and all the TV coverage. I remember Rock the Vote and the release of TIC and crying when I unwrapped it on my birthday. We wore out the BA tape but lucky for us in OZ, it was rebroadcast 6 months later 6 months later and I still have the VHS to this day.

The rest gets clearer, like the release of SEX and my parents not allowing me to have a copy of Erotica (my nanna had to sneak it to me a year later) and I recall the hysteria when she came to Australia for the first time.

I've been a fan ever since and never strayed once.

  5. Call me a flop fan or whatever but could someone point out to me specifically what Danja contributed because I just don't hear his touch on HC. Hes very present on Blackout and you can almost tangibly feel his input but on HC not so much, which is a shame. There's quite a bit of crap on that album amongst half a dozen gems and they all seem to be the tracks where he is featured on the credits.

Back to Kanye, I've really warmed to him lately. The whole Yeezus project looks amazing I even like a track here and there but I've never sat down and listened to a full album because I hate rap music and always have. I've never been able to see it as a legitimate art form, maybe a line here or there to embellish a song, BGO being a great example but a whole album of it would borer to tears. Each to their own tho.

  6. Nothing wrong with these quotes. I remember reading them in context back in '95 and they weren't considered shock g at the time. A few media outlets picked up on it but Madonna was so controversial at the tine that it was just one of many sound bites from her at the time that caused a bit of a stir, it just got lost in all the other controversies.

Anyway I think she has obviously had the experience to warrant having an opinion. She was 35 at the time, not some dum little pop tart. I'm annoyed that this is being brought up by younger members of her fanbase and little idiot monsters. It's irrelevant to the current 'controversy.'

  7. ^ loved that interview but she was such an ice queen during the majority of it. Talk about clash of the titans, you could clearly see Madonna getting irritated by Oprah's constant need to butt in and talk over Madonna. I don't think she was quite used to being interviewed by someone probably as famous as herself. It was a weird dynamic. The ROL and English Roses interviews were much less awkward to view and Madonna had tangibly become a softer more down to earth person.

  8. I didn't think she looked tired at all.

She looks rather radiant throughout the whole movie, beautiful even and Madonna isn't known for being beautiful, incredibly attractive and striking even but certainly not beautiful until more recently.

Yes her dialect is often misleading but she's done better in films like Dangerous Game and Swept Away in terms of the sincerety in her voice. I think she was just trying too hard in BOD. She should have just used elements of her own personality and dialect like she did in DSS and ALOTO.

  9. DWT revolutionized the entire music industry. Never before had a show been presented like this. You can see elements of DWT in other performer's to this day, most notably Kylie whose Fever Tour took many elements of DWT and watered them down consuderably. Then after Madonna embarked on a greatest hits tour in '04 so did Kylie in '05 with Showgirl.

Back to DWT, it really was spectacular and very special back in 2001. She was the first artist to have filmed interludes and video screens which then set the benchmark for everybody else. I was speechless when I first saw it. It was so well done and executed that I didn't even notice the lack of hits and like someone else said in an earlier post, most people knew all the words to the non single album tracks as the two records she gleaned them from were amazingly successl. She knew she would get away with it and good on her for taking the risk.

  10. I feel she had to pander to her audience to a certain extent for RIT. Her career at that point was in trouble and this tour was widely regarded as a career retrenchment tour and it delivered on that premise very successfully. That tour really pulled her career out of the doldrums and she was back on form and back in the public's good books after it. Everything was back on track after that particular tour, much like GS in 1993. We then got the stunning Live Earth appearance which further strengthened her legacy and won her much respect. That then gave way to the fabulous Confessions era where she rose to the top once again and finished off that period with the incredible and flawless CT. RIT established her as a major touring force and reminded people of what an amazing performer she was. It also featured her strongest vocals to date and we also got a live Vogue complete with a corset, something many of us thought we would never see again. I remember being absolutely floored when I opened our local paper in Perth, Australia to see an absolutely stunning full colour picture of M in her Vogue corset on opening night. I also loved the big production of American Life and the V catwalk. It was a far from perfect show but did it's job in bringing Madonna back into the public's consciousness.

  11. Love the stage in the shape of an M idea with pits on either side. However it has to be said that a lot of people went home dissapointed who were in the floor section of the arenas or stadiums who had their sightlines blocked by the massive triangle. I remember Madonnarama posting a complaint on their website complaining that the show was only good if you were in the triangle or in the first few rows front and centre. In that regard I would like her or her people to bear the rest of the audience in mind when designing the next stage. I'm also really, really holding out for a Madonna in the round or 360 show. It would be incredible to see what she could come up with and everyone would go home happy. She pulled it off quite successfully for the Superbowl so would love to see her give it a go though it is a stretch as she does like presenting her shows like a theatre experience but something along the lines of JT's Future/Sex/Love/Sounds stage would be great with the transparent and movable video screens. Imagine the stage design if she decided to do an in the round type show, it would be immense :)

  12. The show opens with a huge production of Bedtime Story, building on the Brit Awards performance with smoke and wind machines and Madonna dressed in an elaborate flowing Versace gown and sporting a very long blonde wig. Donna and Nicki feature on raised platforms behind Madonna in their own Versace gowns with wigs and wind machines also, Madonna is also joined onstage by 8 dancers. BS gives way to Rescue Me with the stage erupting into a thunderous storm with flashes of lightening, cracking thunder that vibrates the arena and rain effects. RS fades into Rain which continues the stormy theme with Donna and Nicki back on their rises behind Madonna. The section concludes with an upbeat Survival, the storm clears and the stage is flooded with light.

The second section is house/dance Madonna and is visually very striking and very tightly choreographed. The white cubes from the Human Nature appear on the stage with Madonna and her troupe stunningly recreating the HN video including the same choreography and outfit. This song is designed to bring the house down. The house theme continues with a pumping and stylish Express Yourself, Thief of Hearts and a brand new Deeper and Deeper mix and choreo.

The third section is spiritual Madonna and opens with a huge production of Like a Prayer. The burning crosses make a stunning return and are 10 feet high. LAP fades into Live To Tell with th crosses remaining onstage but without fire. They are suspended high in the air for maximum effect. Madonna performs solo with just a microphone stand to accompany her. Donna and Nicki then join her for a somber This Used To Be My Playground. The section ends with a big production of I'll Remember which brings the house down.

The fourth section is upbeat and funky RnB Madonna. Madonna with Nicki and Donna perform similar to TLC and the production is very 1995 and smooth. The first section is RnB Madonna and Madonna appears on a small stage in the middle of the arena to conclude the song whilst her full troupe of dancers perform an amazing choreo on the main stage with Donna and Nicki who is joined by madonna's very first male backing singer adding to the groove of the song, Madonna remains on the small stage in the middle of the arena for secret but is joined by her backing singers, the band are transported to the front of the main stage to keep things entertaining for those in the first rows. Don't Stop segues into RnB versions of Justify My Love and Erotica with huge video screens similar to the Who's That Girl Tour,

The first encore of the night is Take a Bow and is performed with her male backing singer centre stage with Madonna and Nicki and Donna in the wings. Madonna dons her red kimono from the AMA awards appearance and her hair tied up in an elaborate bun. The second encore is a storming 10 minute remix of Vogue with a huge production and yet another costume change and featuring all new choreography and staging so as not to be too similar to the BAT and GS versions. Vogue brings the house down and segues into the big finale of a medley of her earlier hits featuring most prominently Into The Groove and Holiday with elements of Lucky Star. Madonna strips down to a sexy leather bra and panties costumr so she can concentrate on her choreography and not be limited by a big fancy costume, think 1994 Esquire cover Madonna with her hair slicked back and a studded dog chain around her neck. Madonna and her troupe take a bow and disappear below the stage.

  13. I'm finding this extremely difficult. When you sum it all up, the majority of her opening tracks are some of her biggest or most iconic tracks. I love Hung Up, GGW, Drowned World and Survival. Lucky Star, Material Girl and Papa Dont Preach are essential tracks but don't rank as favorites for me. I never liked Candy Shop and can't stand the album version of American Life and Like a Prayer as I prefer their remixes.

I might have to go for Hung Up purely because I absolutely fell in love with it, it's a banging dance track and that breakdown in the middle is absolutely sublime. The MTV awards performance brought the house down that night and I remember my excitement being very intense for that performance, right up there with the Supernowl. The Grammy performance was another masterpiece but lacked the oomph of the MTV one and Madonna came across as a little restrained during that one. I also love the slow motion routine in the middle when the beat drops out. Iconic in every way.

  14. Yeah I still have it. Dad used to buy Rolling Stone and other music mages religiously like Q so it was full of rare pics, interviews and tidbits from her zenith in the 80's and 1990. I remember I almost cried. I maintained my Madonna scrap book until I was about 25 and then decided it was probably time to grow up so now I just focus on collectors items and bootlegs which I love.
