What bothers me is that he had an agenda to take her down. If I was assigned to review an artist I hated, I would refuse to do the review.

I've been listening to God Control on repeat and many others have as well. If you don't like it, fine but to say it doesn't have replay value is ridiculous.

I think it's great that she's performing American Life again. We haven't gotten it live since Re-Invention Tour. I agree that it's not appropriate for Pride but at the same time, I want her to do whatever she wants. So, I'm torn.

That should be a cover of something. Or better yet, a poster.

I guess a single officially is a video, radio edit shipped to radio stations, remixes and concentrated performances. How GC was not the first single is beyond my comprehension with Faz in the Latin market as first single. So many bad decisions over the last 10 years have all had a small contribution to her current commercial status with album and singles sales.
I agree that the best songs on the recent albums have not been singles. It's strange and frustrating.

Considering what she chose to perform at Eurovision, I believe (for better or worse) she gives zero fucks about tailoring a performance for the audience. She will perform what she wants and everyone there will love it.

I just noticed that the Wikipedia page for Madame X has been updated to list "God Control" as the third single. I wonder if that's official.
Doesn't "Dark Ballet" count as the 3rd single? How do we define a single now? I'm confused.

If he gets a ticket, can imagine him writing a bad review for the tour to piss off all the fans who will come for him today.
Yup. He would be like, "OMG! She's showing her grotesque wealth and appropriating other peoples' culture!"
-
I surprised how people feel it should be on the regular album. I feel like she's barely on this song. It's basically an interlude. Yes, the beat is good but I'm ok with this being a bonus track.
-
I like it! I would happily have put in on the album instead of Batuka, Faz Gostoso or Bitch I'm Loca. Is it better than the demo? Not sure. It's been a while since I heard it but I remember thinking it was just ok and sounded too "Hard Candy" for the Rebel Heart album. I like the production here. There's a lot going on.
-
Just heard this for the first time. It's ok but I can see why it's a bonus track. It screams b-side.

Hmm, has he ever commented on Mariah's "grotesque wealth?" So it's ok for Mariah to be rich but not Madonna? I'm confused.

IDSIF will remain like I’m Addicted, Impressive Instant or Skin ... a dance masterpiece that could have been there but it wasn’t
Sad but possibly true. But we don't know yet! It could still get a release!

It's not appropriation.
She worked with authentic musicians. They are on the album.
She didn't take anything.
Diffrent cultures are acknowledged.
Sorry if my post is a bit messy, but this guy ruined my day.
Yes! The review acts like she has no cred for any culture at all. As if she robbed them or something. I don't get it.

Didn't I hear something about her filming a video for a remix of "I Rise?" So, I'm thinking she would definitely perform that, especially since it was dedicated to the gay community. "God Control" is the next single, so I'm pretty sure she will do that as well. In term of older songs, I have no idea! Anything is possible.
-
She's been putting out good, non-offensive singles for the past few albums and it has gotten her nowhere. Radio doesn't play them and the general public either doesn't know they exist or are indifferent to them. So, I say "fuck it!" Time to ruffle some feathers.

This is another example of why I hate reading Madonna reviews. It's never about the music. It's just filled with personal attacks, picking and choosing moments of the past as ammunition. This person seems to love to know everything about her and then trash her. I've noticed a few fans like that. They used to like her but continue to follow her anyway just to be super negative. It's really irresponsible for the editors of Pitchfork to have someone so completely biased against her review the album.
I really hate this whole "cultural appropriation" thing. Is she just supposed to sing about being an Italian girl who was raised in Michigan? Like she's literally not allowed to appreciate other cultures? WTF has society turned into? One of the main reasons why I love Madonna is how fascinated she is by art and culture and how it inspires her. I love seeing her influences. That's the whole point of who she is and what she does. It's been like that since the beginning. Why should she stop being who she is? This goes into the age thing too. Why must she start being someone else when she hits a certain age? I feel weep for humanity when I hear shit like that. lol

The last "controversial" Madonna video was 16 years ago! I think it's time for a new one! Can't wait.

do you think will get any radio play anywere?
I doubt it. I would expect it to get less spins that Crave.

I appreciate how visually diverse all the videos have been this era. It's never boring. We never know what to expect.

This would have been a nice bonus on the Super Deluxe but I get it. It's Maluma's song, not Madonna's. But it still would have been nice.

That's true. She's an entertainer. That's her job and she's always been good at it. But I do think she failed at Eurovision. I did not find that performance entertaining but I understand her reasonings for doing it. She was trying to make a statement and I feel like she will do the same at Pride.
