But she owes her success to her groundbreaking videos as much as to the brilliant music. I think that if she does a creative (and expensive) video with a great song like she used to do, she will have much bigger success than say with the likes of GITM, Celebration etc. videos which look, no scream CHEAP and are absolutely UNINSPIRED. I think its high time she serves another stunning (and expensive) video ala Frozen or TPOG. I still think that the video would have an impact on making or breaking the new Madonna song. She will be clever to fund it, if she wants a hit or at least to sell her record. If the song/album is success, she can afford to tour and she ll continue making huge profits even with expensive videos.

What makes the video for Ghosttown that much different to a video like TPOG (just because you mentioned it)? I‘m genuinely curious. I‘m not a huge fan of the Ghosttown video but I also don’t dislike it. I appreciate the fact that there is a story/concept behind it and she looked absolutely stunning.

I also think that GMAYL is a brilliant video and it was pretty expensive. Just because we (=most fans) hate the track it doesn’t mean that the video wasn’t spectacular.

I think what she needs or what you actually mean is that she must release both = hot song and fantastic video.

That's a big factor, but also I would add the fact that she didn't choose the best songs from the albums as singles and it has been 17 years since a really groundbreaking video (WIFLFAG).

Umm well, she has arguably released at least one more groundbreaking (Die Another Day) or at least filmed one more groundbreaking (American Life) video after that but ok...it’s been a long time.

Things have changed for videos in recent years just as it has changed for albums (or the way people release/consume music). It was certainly easier to release a groundbreaking video 20 years ago than it is today because a) it was easier to touch completely new ground or do things which haven’t been done before, b) people were exposed to them while MTV was still hot which helped to push the single/album sales which caused c) the studios to fork out crazy amounts of money for the making of videos. We should accept the fact that things are different nowadays - not to say that things just got worse and the great era of fantastic videos is more or less over.

Still curious how Mirwais sound is today or how it’s evolved if anything. Anybody hear some recent stuff from him?

He has provided a song this year for the concept album „Souris Calle“. The song is called „Souris (Arcane 13)“ and is an exquisite slice of French electronica. His style hasn’t changed much judging from this track but I think that’s a positive thing. (his track has since been deleted off the Spotify tracklist of this album but I don’t know why)

  4. Maybe we will have another Production / Music situation here.

Mirwais was about to finish his solo album „Production“ when Madonna started working with him on „Music“. The first track they worked on (Paradise) ended up on both albums. His song Never Young Again clearly inspired the song Music, because some sound effects are basically identical. I also read somewhere that the instrumental demo of what then ended up as the song Impressive Instant was a left-over from his Production material. So I think he worked simultaneously on both projects which is very similar to what happened this year.

Production was released in April 2000, ahead of the Music campaign, and Paradise was the first song we got to hear from their recording sessions. I remember radio stations actually played it because everyone was thirsty for new Madonna. A few weeks later the Music campaign officially kicked off with the smash single Music. Both tracks, Paradise and Music, share a similar soundscape of bizarre electronica but at the same time they couldn’t be more different from each other. One track is a catchy dance song while the other track is a left-field melancholic ballad. With all this talk of 2 songs being released at the same time, maybe it’s going to be similar to what happened in 2000?

Mirwais has been teasing a new solo album for years now and at the end of 2017/beginning of 2018 it seemed like an announcement was right around the corner. But then everything changed and he started posting more and more Madonna pictures from the American Life days. In what initially seemed like a nostalgic throwback to his more successful days actually was a sign of what was about to happen.

To cut a long story short - I believe he got in touch with Madonna (or vice-versa) at the right time again. He must have worked on tons of demos in recent years and I‘m sure Madonna was impressed with what she heard. I‘m not implying that she gets served with songs all the time and doesn’t work on demos from scratch as well (we know she does) but it’s quite possible that history is repeating and she snatched some great stuff what was supposed to end up on his own album.

My theory is that the first track, which is going to be experimental and new for her, will be first heard on Mirwais‘ new solo album in early 2019. Shortly after Madonna is going to kick off the Magic campaign with the dance hit Killers!

(Wishful thinking, of course. I don’t know where Maluma or Anitta fit in my very specific but random theory)

Agreed, I  can't see why she can't release 2 amazing singles at the same time. I have a feeling this album will be all killer and no filler!

I think the wait is making some people go a bit koo koo!

    This just in:

I'm so happy that it seems like Nakhane is still likely to make an appearance on the album!

    And Mykki Bianco !

I love Nakhane and I wish Madonna had used the correct name when she tagged him.

Another "insider" on Popjustice suggested with a wink that there will be a tv performance before the out of the box thing.

    I'm thinking:

February: single launch and either or both the Grammys and Brits

    Album details, tracklist, art

March/April: Album release and Tour announced

Q3/4: "out of the box thing" ?

    Which poster? Suggested what exactly?

Not that it matters but if we keep quoting Popjustice members, then let’s do it properly

This post by Future Lover on Pop Justice is so great.

First of all, why quote users from other forums in here, what's the point? If I want to read other opinions, I will simply visit the pop justice forum (which I actually do regularly). Secondly, what does that have to do with M's forthcoming studio album? And thirdly, what's so great about this particular opinion? Oh wait, don't answer that last question because it's not really important. And if we're to start quoting random users now, then why not choose the response to this particular post by a user called "MIrwais Ahmadzai" which is way more reasonable?

    ANYWAY back to Queenitta!

Or Candy Shop / 4 Minutes. She kept complaining about how Warner wanted 4 Minutes, but she wanted Candy Shop to be the lead. LOL.

Are we even sure that this ever happened or is this some kind of myth? 4 Minutes definitely sounds like first single material. I just can’t imagine that M was sitting there fighting for Candy Shop, it’s absurd.

I don't know why but my gut feeling tells me that she will kill us with a dance anthem as the opening single! I just feel it..#soon

I think so too. Mainly because of the short snippet which reminded me of a dance stomper in the vein of Hung Up and also because of her reference to Mirwais as Disco God.

lmao. The hoodies in this video look hideous, who would wanna wear that? And really, a discount from 95 to 35 dollars is making them go crazy? Why don’t they just look through some online shops, they often have a 70% sale for quality clothing. I can’t at this stupidity

  11. Madonna‘s top 5 Videos since 2008:

    1. Give Me All Your Luvin‘

    2. Bitch I‘m Madonna

    3. Girl Gone Wild

    4. 4 Minutes

    5. Ghosttown

It‘s strange that the same guy who was responsible for such groundbreaking, creative and fantastic videos like Smack My Bitch Up, Ray of Light, Music (yes, the Music video is underrated as hell) and American Life delivered such uninspired and basic videos like Jump or even Ghosttown. I guess the budget was tight and Ghosttown isn’t bad per se but the whole storyline and execution felt a little amateurish IMO. I don’t expect a masterpiece with every video but I also believe that you don’t need a huge budget to deliver a creative video. Madonna has set the bar so high and she is the undisputed video Queen...I really hope she will surprised us with the next release. Let’s wait and see.
