  1. Except Mimi has the advantage of being a multi-format artist. Urban radio will play her new songs, but they wouldn't be caught dead playing a white artist, let alone Madonna. They didn't even play 4M. And Mariah is still young enough that she can pull off a big hit.

Regarding Gaga: While she's not as sophisticated (for obvious reasons) as Madonna was in the early '90s, she's basically pushing the same buttons Madonna was at that stage in her career. So even though Gaga is only four years into her career, I don't think you can compare "Born This Way" (which was #1 for six weeks btw) to the kind of mainstream, pretty unchallenging pop that Madonna was churning out in 1987. It wasn't until LAP and beyond that Madonna really pushed the envelope musically and culturally, and that's when her sales and chart stats started to dip, just like Gaga now.

I dislike 4M, but there's a difference: I heard it and thought it would be a big hit. The hook and production were strong, even if Madonna's vocals and lyrics irritated me. And even if it felt like a cheap ploy to score a hit. GMAYL, on the other hand, was shit from the beginning. If 4M had the promo GMAYL got, it would have shot straight to #1. The reason GMAYL is underperforming is because people don't like it very much. If it went to #1, it would still be a terrible song. I see what you're saying about the hypocrisy/double standard, but I'm not really convinced by your argument.

I don't think this is true at all. Madonna's self titled basically was the first post-disco Dancepop album to hit the mainstream.

Also, Madonna's singles in the 90s and late 80s were musically challenging and innovative along with being lyrically good. Yes, Born This Way had more "challenging" lyrics, but hte production wasn't exactly innovative. None of the production on any of her singles this era really were.

  2. You'll See was an incredible song. As were all the lead singles before JML. It was American Life that was the party pooper.

    American Life is great!

I like You'll See, but it doesn't have this "epic" feel to it. The lead singles in the 80s were great, but (excluding Like a Prayer and Everybody) weren't trend changers. I guess AL wasn't a trend changer either but it was a really forward thinking, cutting edge sounding single.

  3. I looooove Music but I couldn't care less if she does it... it'd be nice but I don't mind her quitting it. Same goes to La Isla Bonita. She should stop Ray of Light though, I'm sick of it.

I wouldn't really want any of her debut album singles unless it's Burning Up or Everybody either, I'm so sick of those.

I don't really wanna hear Hung Up or 4 Minutes either...or most of HC.

  4. Ugh I'm really getting worried about this era again. I really like GMAYL and I "liked" the two snippets. I just don't want this to be a cop out album where she does things everybody else has already done. I want innovative Madonna. I don't give a shit if she sounds mature, immature, introspective or vapid, but I want the sounds to be NEW. I guess GMAYL is kind of that but the LMFAO remix is not promising.

  5. How'd you find out? Weren't we supposed to get an exclusive remix? Maybe we'll get it after the Super Bowl or it's just a pre-order that guarantees we'll get it when the album gets released?

Check the tracklist on itunes, they updated it.

  6. oh people were just waiting to do that lol

Oh I know, it still annoys me.

He's right that the song isn't as innovative as some of her other lead singles but people are fretting too much and expecting her to create this gigantic innovative gem....It's okay for Pop stars to create frivolous pop songs sometimes though.
