  1. Yes, all hairstyles were 1989 except this one which was January 1990 (I am 98% sure) - the only thing I was never sure of with this picture is I am not sure if this was a wig, or her own hair combed this way. I know the bob was her own hair. Oh, and I -think- the Rolling Stone cover brunette pic is from December 1988 - I never liked when she did photo shoots in December/January, just because the years always get messed up over the years. I like to know the exact dates, and keep them like that. The LAP video was supposedly filmed in December 1988, but I can never verify that.

December 17, 1989, one of my favorite shoots ever!

  2. Interesting :) Her hair was really blonde during the tour. Anyone know why she dropped the pony tail?

Interview with Truth or Dare cinematographer Toby Phillips:

the beats within: For an artist such as Madonna, obviously her image is very important, so were there any other technical challenges in presenting Madonna in the best light on the big screen?

There was another conversation that Madonna and I had about her hair. She had often used that I Dream of Genie hairdo, with her hair pulled back in a tight bun at the back of the head and it was my feeling that for the movie, that was a little severe. I thought that she looked a good balance between commanding and a little bit more feminine with the blonde bob look. I dont know whether I talked her into it, but I told her which one I preferred.

In truth, she probably could have done both. Thinking about the way it was edited, it wouldnt have been bad to have a show where she did it with one look and a show where she did it with the other look and then through the cut, put in a bit of both. So, Im not sure who decided that she just did it all the same way.

  3. I was 5 or so, had no idea what pop music was, one day in late 1985 sitting on my parents bed, they played the Material Girl video...i couldn't take my eyes off the tv fascinated by her, as soon as the video ended i remember peeing in the bathroom singing the song lol

I immediately became obsessed, Madonna was very popular in Argentina by 1985, but she became HUGE with the True Blue album, La isla bonita was one of the if not THE biggest anglo hit ever here, that everyone from 5yrs old to 80yr old knew, TB remains to this date the best selling anglo female album of all time(Thriller among males), she was so big that there was a tv show on national television dedicated to her called "el club de madonna", wich only played M videos in the beginning(by 1989 they played other artist' videos too), i think it aired from 1987 till 1990...

I truly feel that a part of Madonna's inmense popularity over here is thanks to the La isla bonita phenomenon...no anglo artist had done the latin thing before, oh well...good times

  4. At the end of both the Blond Ambition shows in Barcelona Nice they play Sylvester Stewart's "Stand"...i remember thinking it sounded like a Beach Boys song when i was a kid, odd choice after such a huge show.

They played Holiday after the 4 S&S shows in Bs As, i dont recall any songs playing before the S&S and MDNA shows though

  5. Found this interesting article in spanish from an economic newspaper from Argentina, discussing the touring business in this country, quoting local promoters, it claims Madonna (along with the Rolling Stones and U2), has a $5M dollar fee per show, at least in Argentina.

I do remember that back in 1993 when M and Michael played in Buenos Aires, it was reported in the press that her fee was 1.3M and Michael's 1M(he did 3 shows, M did 2).

"Esta especial atención se dará en general, aunque será mucho mayor en caso de que se intenten contratar a algunos de los que conforman el top 5 de los más reconocidos y con más alto cachet, como U2, Madonna y The Rolling Stones.

Los integrantes de este selecto grupo cobran cerca de u$s 5 millones por cada show, una cifra compleja de sobrellevar en un contexto de mediana estabilidad, pero mucho más dura si se debe afrontar luego un cambio en la paridad cambiaria."

  7. Now that we're on the subject of songs played before and after M's concerts.

What were the songs for the previous tours?

I know Singing In The Rain was played after GST

TGS played Smokey Robinson & The Miracles "Tears of a clown" before the show and Judy Garland & Gene Kelly's "Be a clown" right after "everybody".

"Live Nation also is expected to pay $50 million in cash and stock for the right to promote Madonnas concert tours. If and when she does tour, though, the promoter will only get 10% of the gross, with 90% going to the artist; that is the standard split for music superstars in the concert industry these days. Income from licensing ventures such as the use of Madonna's name on fragrances or other products would be divided evenly with Live Nation."

"LN will give her 90% of concert sales and 50% of licensing money it collects."

  9. I told you Pollstar's numbers were trustable!

I dont think anyone doubted Pollstar, every end of year it publishes their top tours list(i think MDNA grossed 295M according to them vs billboards 305M)but the person who posted the info without providing links or source...

  10. your right she does give them a nod. Is she really seeing LVL? I noticed it seems the same mix as when she was on The Jonathon Ross TV show, LE Grand etc.

There might be a backing track but she's definitely singing over it...

The album version has her singing in this sorta robotic high pitched voice underneath the lead vocals so it could be that..

  11. I may be remembering incorrectly, but MDNA's first grosses weren't reported until well into July 2012 - and that tour started in May. You just never know. I would think Live Nation would want to get the numbers out for this tour so they can brag a little and get other dates to sell. Word of mouth is sounding good, and she's not coming on late. Hopefully, this will all work together to repair her touring image among the casual fans.

Yeah, they released the info regarding the first 14 shows in July.
