  1. I'm pretty antsy for the eventual deluge to come, but I have some thoughts about the strategy for M's release.

Thankfully, she's not a new artist. She's an established one in virtually every corner of the world. I think there is such a thing as overexposure. If I could wish for anything, I'd hope this release mirrors what has happened to Adele's 21. It wasn't instantaneously huge, but it got there eventually spawning 2 global #1's so far (with "Set Fire To the Rain" looking to continue the pattern). As we all can predict, she will also clean house at the Grammy's.

It would be nearsighted to only hope for an immediate big splash. Is it impossible for Madonna to have a release that builds in momentum over time? I would certainly hope not. Maybe overexposure and too much hype are the last things we need. Maybe the folks at Interscope are going to pace everything very evenly with the upcoming tour and for the rest of the year.

For me, a slow, graceful, gorgeous burn to the top will do just fine. :dramatic:

  2. I've often wondered if on her desk at her home office in New York there's a little red button next to a pile of old notebooks and to-do lists. When she feels compelled, she presses that button and it switches a GARGANTUAN machine on, igniting it into motion.

The other day, I was at a Kroger supermarket here in Nashville where I live, and while I was shopping, one of her ballads came on the overhead speakers. I must have looked a little drunk singing along to the words "Deep in my heart I'm concealing, things that I'm longing say!!! Scared to confess what I'm feeling. Frightened. You'll slip away" in the baking aisle.

I went to another supermarket the other day to get some dark chocolate when, lo and behold, a familiar voice could be heard everywhere saying the words "I have a tale to tell." That voice is working its way back into our lives in the places where we live and move every day.

Today, on New Year's Eve, I've been reflecting on this past year. I'm thrilled about what's to come for 2012.

Clearly, she's pressed the button. Happy New Year to fellow Madonna fans everywhere! Let's all have a blast in 2012!

  3. Who are you boo?

Furthermore, exactly what Nightshade said was that he was excited for the album. Him, stresst? All these capitals indicate you're the one who needs to smoke a joint or get a massage. :wow:

I don't smoke joints, but I could always use a massage. Thanks for clearing that up, I think. Is it too much to ask for people to lighten up? I can agree that the demo isn't exactly mind-boggling, but it's not the end of the world either. If it flops (and I don't think it will), she'll come back fighting. After American Life, we all got Confessions On a Dancefloor.

I'm actually more curious about the video and the Superbowl performance to this song. I think the song is a platform for the performance, a kind of formality, if you will, in order to set the Superbowl's world stage. Besides, she has a 3-album deal with Live Nation/Interscope. There has to be room to grow. This is a new beginning for her, and in this Mother Monster era, she might just be testing the waters for what's to come.

Btw, do people actually refer to her as "our Queen"? Sure, why not? Life is short. Why not do whatever the hell we want? Besides, I mainly say it to piss off the Monster Minions. They're kind of mean.

  4. I think you can NOT like the first single and still be excited for the album. What's the deal? Are we all one dimensional around here?

Okay, quoting our Queen, why don't you take a pole and stick it up your ass. LOL. Just kidding. Sort of.

Seriously though, one dimensional? Really? First of all, we've only heard a demo of the first single. It wasn't even finished yet.

Secondly, I am TOTALLY excited about the new album. This woman has given me endless hours of joy through her music and her videos for MANY MANY YEARS now. I owe her a debt of genuine gratitude. Though some might be better than others, none of her albums have disappointed me.

Go on and be stressed out and miserable. That is your prerogative. I am stoked. HOLIDAY!!! CELEBRATE!!!

Do me a favor. After you put it in, smile. :horn:

  5. On another thread they are obsessing over whether the new perfume ad is real or fake. Over here, ditto for that questionable tour itinerary. I wish they would just release everything already. Speculation generally amounts to far less than the truth.

    15. Reflection

This is the first tracklist I've seen that actually seems plausible. I even like the name of the album. Hhhmmmm . . .

  7. Photoshopped. It's Madonna from the Hard Candy shoots.

Oh thank goodness. We are in an era where album covers lean towards being jarring and provocative (Hard Candy) as opposed to just plain beautiful (Ray of Light, True Blue). Isn't it possible to do both? This M12 pic is interesting in a raw and almost savage sort of way, but it doesn't look like something Mert+Marcus would put their stamp of approval on, especially for The Queen. I think the pic isn't bad, but I have a feeling the real one will be a bit more dazzling.

By the way, I actually liked the Hard Candy album cover. It suited that era. I just hope she brings back the beautiful for the new album.

I need to be enlightened. What is this M12 pic? Someone please do tell.

  9. Oh for goodness sake! If you hadn't noticed by now, Madonna is the most resilient pop star the world has ever seen. She can adapt to anything and is a perceptive and shrewd businesswoman. Harvard business students could learn a thing or two from her. The truth of the matter is, given the fickle nature of audiences in general, no solo pop star has ever lasted this long (into her fifties so far) and stayed at this consistently high level on a global scale.

MJ (God Bless MJ!!) could have done it, but as we all have sadly seen, he was as much a victim of his fame as he was the creator of it. Ditto for Elvis. Prince could have done it, but even though his creative output is still strong, he's lost his relevance in the mainstream. Janet, no offense to her fans (and I love me some old-school Janet), can't stop referring to her holy vagina in every album since "The Velvet Rope". Her recent albums have been a shallow, hollow shell of what it brilliantly used to be. She could definitely have done it. (I'm still holding out for something special from her if she could just leave her damn vagina out of it.)

Don't EVEN get me started on Whitney. Ugh. Now Mariah, she's gonna come back, but let's face it, her amazing voice, some great music, and slammin' body (I'm gay btw.) are all she ever offers up these days. She's not the cultural heavy hitter and live performer that Madonna is. Britney? She could become massively huge (even bigger than Mother Monster I dare say) if she actually tried, but she's been phoning it in for a while now.

Madonna is walking into uncharted territory. How does someone who is also a woman continue to be a global phenomenon well into middle age and beyond? NOBODY else has done it at this level yet. So far, companies and whole corporations are still forking up MILLIONS of dollars (on a 53 year old woman!) to make her star shine bright. Stadiums AND arenas around the world get sold out for her shows. After eleven albums, her next album is the most anticipated one of 2012.

SHE IS WRITING THIS STORY. She's been writing it all along.

Could we all just chill the fuck out? Sit back. Enjoy the music. Go to her shows, and lose ourselves in every blissful moment.

If you hadn't figured it out by now, she knows EXACTLY what she's doing. If you look back at her legacy, she plays every success and every misstep to her advantage. This is still her playground. No matter what happens, she will come out on top in the end. History will repeat itself. It always has.

  10. I hate that fucking movie

Madonna Torn Over Super Bowl Performance

Madonna is having second thoughts about signing up to perform at the Super Bowl - because she fears she has taken on too much for the beginning of 2012.

The pop superstar confirmed she'd be playing the half-time show at the American football final earlier this month (Dec11) but with her directorial debut W.E. to promote, she worries that she'll be losing a lot of sleep.

She says, "I was really torn about doing Super Bowl because I thought, 'Oh God, how can I do that and promote my film at the same time. It's a little bit much.' But my manager talked me into it and I'm still punishing him for that."

I, too, have waited patiently for the Queen's return; however . . .

As a performing musician, I, for one, can understand her current reluctance. She has spent 3 years doing intense and exhaustive research for this film, invested millions of her own money, and put her own music career on hold to make it happen. Excuse the pun, but W.E. truly is her masterpiece. This isn't just some little vanity project. If you haven't noticed from the previews, it looks absolutely stunning. Have seen how happy she's looked at each of the premieres? Just positively GLOWING. Do any of you have any clue how incomprehensibly difficult it is to make a movie, let alone a period piece of this nature? This movie is the product of her blood, sweat, and tears over most of the last five years and is immensely important to her. She has given the last 3 decades of her life, 11 albums, and numerous HUGE hits to all of the trifling queens who are bitching about this movie.

As an artist, have you ever given absolutely everything you had to a creative project hoping that it will flourish in its own way and resonate substantively with its audience?

Well, if you haven't, I would like to kindly ask you to shut the fuck up, and as someone once wisely sang, sit your ass down.
