  1. Oh my Heavenly Father.

Dan Wootten was correct in his glowing review.

This has some of the best vocals from her in a history of wonderful performances.  She really goes for some notes here.

Everything about this song from the lyrics to the vocals to the melodies to the production is SPOT ON.

  2. Oh my God, this IS classic Madonna.  All the reviews got it right. Instant replay value while not being remotely basic.  We have classic Madonna on here like Crazy, IDSIF, and LFM to balance out the epic new directions of God Control, Batuka, and Killers Who Are Partying.

For those who simply find her experimental stuff not their cup of tea, don’t you worry.  You have gems here as well.

  3. This song would win her Album of The Year if sung by a man or some hipster artist.  It’s like nothing she has done before.  Paul Simon/Peter Gabriel vibes but with a Madonna spin.

So authentic, so organic, so real.

I love the Batukadeiras and the chanting.  Big fan of Madonna’s voice here.

This is a critically acclaimed album. Don't let a handful of lunatics color this. It is critically acclaimed and as fans we should be buying and streaming and not be so consumed by the usual detractors that have existed every inch of her 36 years as an artist. It is not gonna stop now.

    So moving on......

    👏

  5. This album is a masterpiece.  Even in the age of streaming, I have given Madonna the respect of playing her albums as she has sequenced them, and sometimes as in the case of Hard Candy and MDNA, I had to work at understanding the sequencing.  Madame X sequencing is perfect as fuck, like ROL, Music, AL, and Confessions.  What a journey!  I don’t really think I’ll start playing individual tracks for several weeks because the album is a journey. I will be enjoying straight through from Medellín to I Rise.

Oh, and Crave works perfectly as a centerpiece on this magnum opus.

  6. I have to go to bed so can’t do a review until tomorrow.  It’s an astounding piece of work.  Five stars.

Two quick things.  Killers Who Are Partying is beautiful, and the lyrics are not cringe inducing because the chorus refutes them as literal.  They are a show of support and solidarity, not her trying to be someone she is not.

Secondly, there are many fantastic vocal moments on this album, so I don’t know what people are talking about. Some of her best singing ever.  EVER.

Crying. Just heard the full album...

She topped herself again, I love here so much and I’m so proud of her for everything she put in this record. You can feel her pain, her joy, her playfullness throughout and IT’S AMAZING.

This cd is so full of raw emotion... I’m floored.

It’s so crazy that after such a brilliant career she still have this will to experiment and has so much to share musically, lyrically and aesthetically. We are so blessed to have her...

    Upon first listen faves are:

KILLERS WHO ARE PARTYING  - was expecting to cringe real hard judging by the reviews but I actually cried my eyes out. This music style is to die for and suits her really well. The way she sings those lyrics makes up for their simplicity. This song touches me deeply.

GOD CONTROL... well, you guys said it all, it’s INSANE. Have to listen to it again to process all that disco-choir-crazy galore.

COME ALIVE  not a fan of Body Shop so I was skeptical reading the comparisons. But omg I LOVE it. The rythms, instrumentation, choir... fuck yeah

BATUKA a bit long maybe but the fusion of genres is so well done, it’s brilliant!!!! Sounds like nothing else ever done

IDSIF just all I love from Madonna summed up in one song. Not particularly innovative but what a pleaser ! Amazing lyrics and spoken words. Her sugar is so very raw in this.

Still love FUTURE to death as well

I love love LOVE the theme of the album. All this allusions to searching, finding, rising above, while going though a wide spectrum of genres, melodies, collaboration. At the end it’s not what you’re looking for or what you find that matters but the journey. And god this album reflects that to perfection.

sorry for the long post but I’m so happy that M is back with such FIERCE and profound music.

    Long live the queen

this isn't going to be a crowd-pleasing album and it wasn't meant to be. so she's going to get a mix of scores but we should be looking at how many high scores she gets. i bet there will be more than her last three albums. and as long as her overall score remains green (which it will), that's all that matters.

    👏

Just finishing I Rise now, this album is definitely an adventure from start to finish, it’s quite surreal, a lot to take in, I loved every second but definitely need repeated listens to break the album down. So glad to have her back with a new album!

Highlights on initial listen have to be God Control, Crazy, Faz Gostoso and I Don’t Search I Find.

I cant wait to to learn every second of this triumphant album.

    👏 😍

Are they good reviews? or should her score drop even more?

I have no way of knowing, but I think it’s a safe bet that Mojo, All Music, Attitude, and PopMatters will be good.  If she can get one great one out of NYT, Chicago Tribune, and Boston Globe and not get overly bad from Consequence and AV Club then she should maintain mid to high seventies score.  Pitchfork will probably be a not great score unless they surprise us.
