  1. Hopefully Slant and MusicOMH will elevate her score on Meta:

I still have a good feeling about the reviews from Mojo, AllMusicGuide, and PopMatters, all of which count for Meta.

Hopefully Spin, Attitude, Boston Globe, and Chicago Tribune will be positive.

Who knows about Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, and The AV Club?

I can imagine this album being quoted and serve as an example when the other pop bitches come that age, struggling to continue their carreers .

but I think it's impossible now to get rid of the age number appears as a last name for her everywhere.

maybe it will be always used as an argument to show how great she is, like the fact that she's still being great is attached to the fact she's getting older

I haven’t heard the album yet, but someone said earlier in the thread that this would be a template for the other pop ladies when they turn 60.  Um, no.  None of them have done anything good in their 20s or 30s, so why would they at 60?

Nearing the end of another listen and truly, I struggle to find a song I'd classify as filler.

Every single track is ace! All of them are like little excursions within the big journey. You start one place and end up somewhere else. Such a masterfully crafted album!

Have to say, even more than before hearing the album, I think Medellin was the best choice for first single. That really was a nice starting point for what was in store. It totally encapsulates the overall feel of the album.

Are there more haunting moments like Dark Ballet? Do some of the songs have lots of different parts and sections so that we will be playing them for months and discovering new things like with her best work?

Lol....I feel like I've dipped into the cookie jar behind Mama's back!

There are definitely some pure vocal moments from her. If I'm being honest, I do think this is prob her album with the most vocal effects....not in bad way because it's used for the purpose of enhancing the songs not disguising vocal shortcomings on her part. At this moment I'm in love with her vocal on Crazy, sounds very soulful. Also loving Looking For Mercy vocals, something about it reminds me of her vocals on the RH outtake Heaven. Just sounds very pure and poignant in the way only M can do.

Overall, I'd say the vocals throughout the album cover a wide spectrum.....one song even gives me 80's Madonna vocal tea's (not a lot of that on this album though). I think I'm safe in saying whatever vocal flavor you'd like MX will have it for you!

    Amazing review.  I cannot wait!

Massive props to all of you waiting!! I just couldn't do it anymore....lol.

Madame X will reward you greatly for your discipline and control. 🙂

You’ve been a bad boy, Kurt!  Loved your review, though.  I am seeing comments to the effect that there are a few songs on which she sings clearly with no auto tune.  I am curious as to your thoughts as I know that you are a big fan of Madonna’s vocals.

  6. Not listening until Friday, but have found some things interesting from people’s comments here and on other forums:

Come Alive being described by some as resembling Body Shop but by others as mystical and dreamy.

Looking For Mercy which next to no one talked about over the last two months being called by some one of her best ever.

Batkuka being called one of her best ever by some and the least favorite of others.

  7. Why are silly sites like Clash Music included in Metacritic instead of publications like Time, People, and USA Today which, while they might have flaws, are at least professional magazines.

I can understand including a few proven ones like Pitchfork, Slant, and The AV Club, but it’s a little bit of overkill with things like Clash Music and The Line of Best Fit.

  8. Absolutely waiting!  I never listened to Rebel Heart other than official pre-releases until the day of release.

It is a mixture for me of the era I grew up in and an inability to view music as a free commodity.  I want every time I play an artist’s music to benefit them either through a sale of their physical cd or streaming on an official platform.

I understand that my views are outdated.

    Can’t wait xo!

  10. I know newness always colors perception, but if being objective do some of you think Madame X will eventually be considered her masterpiece alongside LAP and ROL or is that absolutely putting the cart before the horse?

I hope there are some others are also waiting until Friday so that it won’t just be me in here raving about everything that morning LOL.

  11. Do we have any Evita voice on this album?  What about her high range like in Messiah?  Low Karen Carpenter range like in Ghosttown?

I’m just getting home from work and catching up.  Noticing all the individual song threads are up!  I’m so excited for Friday.  I have a weird OCD trait where I can’t listen to stuff until it’s officially released.  Showing my old age, I guess.
