Madonna "MDNA" Steep Chart Drop Continues
Madonna vs. Lionel Richie: its the tale of two major stars from the 1980s. Later today, when all the numbers are in, Madonnas MDNA album will likely have fallen out of the top 15. Sources predict MDNA sold around 20,000 copies last week, more than 50% lower than its second week and miles away from its debut three weeks ago with a controversial 359,000 copies. Of course, that first week is colored by Madonna selling 185,000 copies of the CD that were bundled with concert tickets. The numbes were inflated. In the second week, the reality set in.
The sales drop is all the more profound considering that amazon.com was selling two versions jof MDNA one digital, one physical for just 5 dollars. Even that move didnt boost sales.
Richie, on the other hand, debued with 200,000 in sales but lost his chance at number 1 with the Madonna sales promotion. Last week, Nicki Minaj grabbed number 1 from Lionel with a quick hit. But now this week, Lionels Tuskegee will finally get the top spot, with 125,000 copies. No one deserves it more. And a good thing, too, since news reports suggest that Lionel owes the IRIS some back tax money.
But Lionels number 1 is hard earned. Hes done a ton publicity, culminating in a TV special last week on CBS. With his countrymusic co-stars, Richie hit the CBS sweet spot of older viewers, He clearly knows who his audience is, and is happy to play to them. Madonna, however, is lot in the woodsselling a perfume named for a 20 year old documentary, and trying to act the age of her teen daughters pals. But who is Madonna at age 54? The audience doesnt know and she doesnt seem to either.

And it sucks because the album is so good
And just because somebody wanted to try something new and doesn't want to admit that it fails!
I could be wrong, but I think people and the press are putting the nail in the coffin of MDNA a little early. I still have faith that something can happen to turn the tide.

They need to release GANG BANG to coincide with the launch of the world tour to save the album ASAP. Scrap the plan of releasing TUTR.
btw, they already went the wrong way, and there's nothing much anybody can do. I just hope they don't fuck up the concert as well.

If he doesn't get a 3rd video made - a good one - then he will officially be useless. It's not that much to ask to at least see the album represented adequately with a complete package regardless of it's success.
I still don't see how he will get TUTR to work as a third single. Somebody please enlighten me.

But that's exactly what good promo is about: performing on the biggest show at the time that maximises you audience. So yes, Superbowl was good for her US audience but not for her audience anywhere else in the world. Maybe Madonna and Guy should have listened to Morrissey's "America is Not the World" before they planned the "non-traditional promo campaign" for this album

Not sure what version of the deluxe CD he that fool was looking at- perhaps an import? The regular deluxe was still in the upper reaches of Amazon's chart (and it's not even really sale-priced).
